I would like to do what I hope would be a simple solution to my watering routine. I have a thousand or so lewisia plant collection in short gallon (and less) containers I want to fertilise in springtime. They all sit at ground level. Currently I dip containers in 25 gallon garbage pails of the diluted fertiser and water them all by hand. I'm getting to old for all that bending! Standing and using a trigger with watering wand of some kind would do the trick. I know large nurseries have enclosed systems with large continuous pumps delivering water and nutrients but I do not need such an elaborate system (or the cost of it). I would think a small on demand pump plunged in my garbage pails would do the job pretty simply for me. It would just be put away after the plants have finished their bloom time and the plants are allowed to dry out and go dormant from mid-summer on. An occaisional pass with a spray hose gives them enough moisture the remainder of the summer. Fall through winter wet does not hurt them in their sharply draining soil mix. It is just in their springtime active growth period that I want to keep them fed well! What would be the best size pump to use? Gallons per minute, outlet and hose size, trigger-like wand, etc. For the short periods of time I would just use household current I would think. Is something this simple workable? Any suggestions as to how best to do this would be greatly appreciated.
