drip irrigation

Kimmell, IN

Does anyone use drip irrigation for their perennials? If so how well does it work and were did you buy your equipment?

Use T-Tape. You can run it all around the bed. even kinked a bit the water will flow. It can be buried under the soil or mulch.
You can get all the supplies here. It is cheap, by the way & lasts a long time. If it gets a hole in it, you can cut it apart & patch with a connector.

This is the page on there web site.
A good start is the 5/8" 750 ft roll.
It will fit standard barbs for ½" plastic pipe which might be best for a flower bed. All you do on the dead end is fold it over & slip a short piece on it to keep it closed.

Thanks I will check it out.

Hi All,
The best growng media for Drip Irrigated products is cocopeat. It hold more water than eat moss and is ideal for green houses. Cocopeat has stable pH and also has natural fungi that promotes plant root growth. I found some useful information on www.cocopeatsrilanka.com

Wasn't impressed with jordan's seeds. If you are looking for a quality company for drip irrigation look at http://www.dripworksusa.com They will send you a free copy of their catalog or you can purchase directly from their website. They have T-Tape also with better descriptions and images.

I am not sure of how things work in California, but in Minnesota we value our dollars.
Dripworks, 6mil, 10000 ft roll T-Tape is $310.00. Same thing at Jordans Seeds is $190.00

Houston, TX(Zone 9b)

I used Dripworks to purchase my valves and timer. They designed the system for me for free (including backflow preventer, timer, filter, etc). They were very helpful, but even more impressive, the timer malfunctioned within the warranty time and they sent me another one before I sent the broken one back to them. They didn't question me or try to make it seem like it was my fault.

As for parts, I buy mine at Home Depot or Lowes. I like have the drip system since I don't have a sprinkler system for my lawn and the sprinkler that hits the lawn well will miss the corners and back of my beds. I do have mine zoned and ran the supply tubing underground, so that I can easily supply the back of the yard where this is no spigot.

If you have any questions, let me know (either on the thread or dmail) and I will be happy to tell you about my system. Not an expert by any means, but have had the system for about 3 years, so have some ideas.

I garden on a slope so lose a lot of water quickly and would like to install (burry in the ground) drip irrigation. Could someone explain why T-Tape is a good choice for the tubing?

For one thing it will still water evenly on the hillside. It also puts water right by the plants & don't waste it between rows.

I agree with you about the pricing, I was merely commenting on the Jordan Seeds website. It took me for ever to figure out how to order online... because from what I can tell you can't order online. There is an order form that I can print out and fax in, but even then I was unable to locate shipping rates. The website also makes it difficult to determine what parts and fittings are needed for a system like this. Now if I were in Minnesota and I could physically go to the store and ask an employee for help then I'm sure it would be a lot different.

Back to the pricing issue - if you are going to be ordering 10,000 feet of T-Tape then you most likely qualify for commercial pricing at Dripworks. That brings the cost of the roll you mentioned from $310.00 to $213.00.

Yes, they are a little behind on internet stuff. They, Jake & Dan, love to talk. Call them, they will gladly tell you what you need.
I feel very lucky living so close to a business like this. I can drive there in a little over an hour. I usually make at least one trip every spring.
