(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

It's intermittent.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. Yes, I like it too. Gets a bit leggy so I cut it way back after blooming. The dew on it was nice.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

"Nice"? I'd call it perfection and you were there to capture it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I finally got it.
Its too early for me sometimes.
FA has not been on the button as far as forcasts this winter. They did predict the last 2 weekends of blizzerds but they were farther south than I read.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Catching up again. All the pretty pics from yesterday and this am are great as usual. Victor I got that penstemon last year but it didn't bloom so hoping for some this year. Nice pic to show a preview. Beautiful lilies, astilbe and crabapple blooms. Also a nice hibiscus and three beautiful blues in one shot from Jen and Onewish. Pretty hydrangea and nice red clem from WC Bill and WC. Lovely all.
Really nice everyone. This one was the first bloom on this plant last year and it has chicken wire around it to keep the ground hog away so it could get established. Echinacea 'Primadonna'.

Victor, that penstemon photo is so ethereal. OneWish, I love the combinations of blues and purples.
Great daylily collage. Beautiful echinacea!
This is a variation on a valentine card I made for my DH:

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Pretty color blue on that delph Bill. Hope some of mine return again this year, you never know with delphs around here how many years they will return, but so far I have been lucky.

Van Etten, NY(Zone 5a)

They're redpolls.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i hear you - i plan to start some from seed today just in case - always grab handfuls of seeds and bury them where they are growing too - mine have been flowering for 2-3 years and might be ready for reinforcements.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Blue Moon hosta:

Very nice! - Love the planter too!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love the color of that WC.. is that a fire pit Pirl?.. if so.. it's pretty cool

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

The part that holds the hosta was actually the bottom of this curly iron piece (upper right in this photo) but when it broke apart I couldn't bear to get rid of it. One of these days I'll get a better shot of the piece.

Edited to add: I've straighted it so please don't think I left it looking like that!

Looks fine crooked too! lol!
Great Solomon's Seal patch!

Thomaston, CT

Way cool place to put a hosta, & the painted ferns are a nice touch!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Thanks, everyone. My friend picked it up from a trash pile about 30 years ago and gave it to me. I've even found a better photo of it.

Like the variegated solomon's seal. Must think of that for shade. We just have a couple of plants.

Cute card, bebop.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cute card, bop!

Nice color on that delph, Bill.

Love Blue Moon. I like the big hostas.

Zenobia and Physocarpus Coppertina.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Beautiful, Victor.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Pirl. I'm a big fan of Zenobia. Gets Lily of the Valley type flowers and great fall color. The bright foliage lasts throughout the season and it's great to pair with.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

The Zenobia is lovely. The Coppertina died but I'm 100% sure it was the soil in the pot in which it was planted when I received it. The soil simply wouldn't hold water for me or for my daughter (so I know it wasn't just mine). It also arrived at exactly the wrong time - just before we were leaving for a visit to Maine last year.

Have you ever tried Chionanthus? I love the look of it but the ones I've seen on Cape Cod, at the nursery, are always too large and we can't very well leave our luggage behind.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh - bummer on the Coppertina. I love them.

I do have a Chionanthus that is just getting to a nice age where it should be blooming nicely. Can't remember if I have the native one or the Chinese one.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

one thing i noticed about potting soil for shrubs is that at the box stores the soil is light fluff to get them to grow fast and then they have difficulty for a while when planted if not given attention - at real nurseries the it is closer to real soil with weight - last year i picked up two different Potentilla and wished i had spent the $10 difference.

South Hamilton, MA

Well, snowdrops have no chance to appear again. Now there is snow on top of crust.
