What beautiful photos everyone is posting today. I had a female Red-Bellied visit today, she appears on the young side, does anyone agree?

I was surprised to look out and see them there. I'm used to doves and juncos. :-) This global warming is killing me!

Thanks Adel for the wonderful new thread. Wonderful pictures everyone. I'm stepping out, will return this evening with more birds picture to share. Happy Valantine everyone. For Valantine, the single Eastern Blue Bird has brought another BB to the feeder this morning. Here is the Pioneer proudly looking on as the other BB is chowing down at the suet feeder below.

p.s. for those that celebrate Eastern Culture; Happy Chinese New Year. And a wonderful birding year too. ^_^

A nice start to the new thread. I am not always able to comment individually to people's photos and for that I am sorry, but my work schedule makes it so that sometimes I am going through to full threads just to catch up! Sometimes I see a photo in particular I want to comment on or ask a question about, and it's already a page and a half back!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Quote from TheHackster :
I saw your camera settings for the lark were f/5.6, shutter 1/4000, and ISO 400 - is the blazing fast shutter speed how you compensate for the bright snow?

Hack, those settings are pretty much what I run all the time (AV) mode. The shutter speed varies...with the snow it jump's up to those speed's...on overcast days with snow I want an ISO of 600...anything past that I get noise in my shots. But it jumps from 400-800 so I just keep it at 400. On Sunny days my shots are really nice with those settings...when the sun gets higher in the sky I will lower the iso..even though it may not be necessary.

Red......your female pheasant is sure pretty.....I would love to see a pheasant or a bobwhite. I remember hearing bobwhites as a kid.

These are still shot from last week...Blue Jay getting peanuts.

I am still hoping to get a really good shot of the American Tree Sparrow....they just always come at bad times it seems! This was at 8:30 in the morning and the sun just getting up a bit.

Not a great photo but I liked the size comparison between the crow and the Blue Jay!

I had to laugh when I saw this photo...I named them Claudia, Marna, Margaret & Rose.

LOL, nanny. Nice pics! I would love to see the Tree Sparrow.

Here's a handsome male Northern Cardinal from today.

Ha! Bunch of old Crows!

Hey Burd (and everyone else).

I DID it. I found a pair of horned lark. (life list). I drove very slowly along a country road. Rolled down the windows to hear and heard the call. Then it took me a while to locate them with binoculars. Unfortunately, I had left my larger lens at home and didn't want to get any closer to these two in case I scared them off.

Nanny... I like your lady starlings! LOL!!

Wow Mrs_Ed! That's cool!

Congrats Mrs_Ed!! More confirmation on maybe the easiest way to find those Horned Lark's. Glad you didn't give up!

No really...be honest...does my butt look too big?

Thumbnail by jhowdy
Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow Mrs. Ed that's so cool! I'm not only impressed that you found them by listening out the car window, but I'm also impressed because you found them in your binoculars. They blend in so well. Congrats!

I had a new bird today too. The pair of ring-necked ducks in the background of this pic. I'm pretty sure that's what they are but correct me if I'm wrong. I also think the white bird in the middle is an immature little blue heron. If he is though, he's the only heron that I saw all day, so again, correct me if I'm wrong.

And yes, that titmouse's butt is huge? What have you been feeding it?

Are big butts a draw in the bird world? Cute one JH!

Look like Ring-necked Elph.

PERTH, Australia

Terrific pics, everyone. Thanks for the Valentines day card, Linth.
Burd, love that burst of Grackles.
Mrs Ed, I'm so happy to hear you saw the Horned Larks. Well spotted, eh?
Nanny, very funny with the four Grackles. I suppose I'm the one under the other three (Downunder).
Nice shots of the geese in the snow, red.
I regret that I have no photos to share.

Sandusky, OH

Elphaba, agree with Ring-necked Duck's...your other bird is a Great Egret.

Wow he is a handsome one Resin!

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

Resin, that bird is so cool and what a great picture of it. I'd never even heard of an Eider before.

Burd, thanks for the correction on the egret. I don't know why I always think I'm looking at a little blue.

This would have been my best pic of a Carolina Wren ever except for two things: my dirty window and the smoke billowing over from the neighbor's barbecue. I still like it though!

Thumbnail by Elphaba

I've had this male visiting for a while, but he's been all alone until today. That got him singing.

That's a wonderful pic Elphaba!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Handsome he's!!! Nice capture Resin. Congrats Mrs_Ed. I can imagine the thrill tracking the birds down with their calls. Awesome! Your ducks are handsome as well Alphaba. Happy V-day Margaret. Burd_Fotos, thanks for the compliment. Missiemarie, I can't tell whether your RB woodpecker is juvenile, but maybe pelle or someone here can. Linth nice poster-like RB for V-day! Va_Wild_Rose, are the roads more passible up there with all the snow? Nan, lol I enjoyed the gathering of your many variety of birds. JH lol on your TT.

Here is Mr. Cardinal saying hi everyone.

Eastern Blue Bird; my guest of honor to the suet banquet among other residents. ^_^

Ah, the BB looks pretty blue above, but once the guest (as seen here with my Carolina Wren) arrives at the suet, he/she seems happier.

Nice ones Lily!

Marie, I can't tell but she might be a young adult. She's in fine feather!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Linth and Elphaba, I too see Carolina Wrens in pairs here too, hopefully that's an early sign of Spring. Yeah! Thanks Pelle.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

This isn't very good picture, but we've so many gulls (?) around our area lake. Some day I can see them in hundreds, maybe thousands (which I've not seen before). They mingle with other migrating birds such as American coots and local Mallards ducks very well.
