I have a young crepe myrtle. It is still young enough to be staked. Should I prune it? Tell me in detail how to do it.
crepe myrtle
I would only prune it if it needs it--if there are branches that are crossing and rubbing for example. Otherwise I'd let it grow.
Here's a little ditty to remember about pruning crape myrtle: Prune UP, not Down. Prune to see through, not over. I agree with ecrane - minimize pruning. I wish you well.
These guys are giving you good info. The quickest way of destroying the beauty of a crepe is to cut it back.
Yes, prune lightly. I prune mine when they are older, trim really. You see people cut them to the same place every year. It is awful. Little fists or knots.
