I was just given a few cuttings from a contorted filbert bush. Is it possible to get them to root? How should I do it? In water or in soil. Do I need to use a rooting hormone? Thanks, Elsie
Starting contorted filbert from cuttings
hi ehunt1, there was a whole thread on starting contorted filberts from cuttings, I tried to search it out for you but the search engine is down. I tried to do it once and had no success. I put mine in soil in a baggie with a little water. I can't remember how long I waited, maybe I didn't wait long enough, and I didn't use rooting hormone (I'm more of a good luck gardener ;) if it grows it's from luck, not skill or knowledge on my part!)
Somebody will be along with a better method shortly, don't get discouraged!
Hi Elsie -- I'm not sure how helpful this will be, but I did find a thread on the "propagation" forum with some information for you. It sounds as though this is one of the more difficult shrubs to get to root -- hope you have good luck with it, I really love those bushes!
