How was it? Were you embarrassed or self-conscious?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

It was kind of fun, I was only self conscious in the beginning. After awhile it just felt good to feel the sun all over. It wasn't very crowded when we went. (DH)

Where was it?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Around Sodus NY.
Also did topless beaches in Florida.
I was a bit younger and cuter then!

Hee hee!

Funny story. At Columbia, we had a guy from the city come once in a while to check the water lines, etc. He was the most outgoing guy I ever met. We hit it off immediately and he invited me to come any time to Jacob Riis park - a nude beach in Queens. He was so well-know there, that he told me to drive to a certain entrance and tell them 'the plumber sent you'!! Hilarious. He was a big, fat guy!

even if I was in good shape... I could never.. give anyone credit that does though

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Can't imagine guys not being aroused.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

well depends on the scenery ... might not be anything worth looking at.. I did feel very uncomfortable in the Dominican republic when a french woman and her young teen daughter were topless by the pool.. and they were the only ones

When DH, oldest son, who was 12 at the time, and I went to St John USVI we were snorkeling and rounded a bend in the shore. In the cove was a REAL nice sailboat and some people swimming and loungin on the sand. Jeff and I happened to look up and saw what was happening so we just quietly steered DS back around the bend and never said a word. (blushing)

Hee hee!!

Guy I worked with went to the one in Sandy Hook all the time. Girl I worked with(I think she was abused by her husband) used to go with her hubby because he MADE her go with him. She said she brought an enclosure to surround herself with.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Yuck. Nobody should MAKE you do something like that.

I burn too easily - I barely let much skin show at a normal beach. Can't imagine letting all that pasty white never been burned stuff out - ouch!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

They go topless in the Fla beaches sometimes, (on a crowded beach). I've seen a few, even one young girl who completely changed on the beach. (no it wasn't designated a nude zone). Never bothered me, (bothered my DW though! lol!), I think it depends on the setting, at least that's the way I look at it... (hee hee!)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wouldn't bother me. I'd offer to help. ^_^

Fashion designer Alexander McQueen died, not that I would know any of his stuff, but I would laugh myself silly if I saw someone wearing some of his designs

Seriously??????

I feel that way about most of these designer fashions. Day care kids can do better.

looks like flowers should be in those... not legs

I was going thru old pictures last night, specifically looking for this one to send to my neighbor friend who is down in FL for the winter. Last October, she and I took a long weekend trip to Niagara Falls - she had always wanted to go, but her DH wasn't into it, so the two of us went instead. I told her the only thing that I really HAD to do was ride the Maid of the Mist boat that goes right up to the falls. I remember being so disappointed when I was a kid because my dad wouldn't let us do the boat ride. I think I pouted most of the afternoon, and here is the proof of what a brat I must have been!!!

Picture is horrible quality, but I had to laugh at the 70's style and thought of this thread. Look at the Marsha Brady hair, the knee socks, and the "cool" wrist bands that my brother is wearing... Terri

I also found this one - my brother and I in high school, late 70s. Still have the Marsha Brady hair, and my brother had the "in" sneakers of the time. I must admit, I still like the cheerleading outfit, down to the saddle shoes with pom poms! Terri

Shag haircuts! Wonder if they'll ever make a comeback. Jo, I remember white coveralls being in - I loved them at the time. I even saved my favorite pair, and when my niece was going to a throw back party a few months ago, she tried them on, started laughing, and said NO WAY was she going to wear those. I said, come on, it's authentic 70s!!! She ended up wearing an 80s Madonna type outfit. Picture is of me (on left) with my best childhood friend and her sister. Having matching outfits was in for us back then too. I had finally cut my long straight hair, but never did do the perm thing like Deanna and Aleta did (their mom was into experimenting with hair styles - UGH!).

I've been spending a bit of time sorting thru old pictures this winter. Keeps me occupied, and maybe I'll finally get them organized. I found another one of my brother, about mid 70s time frame, standing in front of the bathroom mirror, bare chested and in gym shorts, flexing his young teenage non-existent muscles. I'm itching to post it on his Facebook wall, but knowing my brother, he'll come up with something way more embarrassing as payback!

The white cover alls were for painting on and signing autographs. It never got done on mine. They were too awkward for working in the studio soI went to conventional jeans.

Great shots!

I hate clothes shopping! When I was 20, I could walk in the store pick out my size and it would always fit. Well, I'd usually have to hem pants because I'm short. Now, I can't find anything. Allison, I can relate to your almost crying after going to all those stores. I had an awful experience like that a few weeks ago. I have since decided it's time to get my sewing machine out and sew all my own clothes again. It's not worth the pain to go back to the stores unless I'm buying a necklace!

I've always loved the 30s and 40s styles.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - women looked fantastic back then.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

AND there were midriffs then too Victor
I know you like them..

But of course.

30/40's fashions were in 2 yrs ago, gorgeous stuff. Now all the 80's stuff is coming back(scary) and the hippie stuff from the 60's(lots of stuff with fringes)

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

30s & 40s came and I didn't even know it! That was fast. I can't stand how trends come and go so quickly. I usually go for the clothes that you can wear for decades and still look okay. Usually, that's just jeans and tshirts.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Same here Harper.
Casual sports wear,Eddie Bauer,LL Bean.I didnt like the huge sholderpads era.I am already broad sholdered.I just used to take the pads out.
My simple craft life was a real bonus.Tee Shirts and jeans, except when I was dressing for shows.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I HATED shoulder pads. Mine came out, too.

I like Eddie Bauer cuz they have lots of tall sizes.

Kershaw, SC(Zone 8b)

Not sure if anyone has touched base on this or not...and I don't mean that as a pun either...lol...

There are several trends that bother me, the one that irks me the most, girls/womans pants with something written on the butt... I am by no means skinny, but when a larger person is wearing them and the back of the pants is supposed to read "PRINCESS" and the only thing that is visible is "PRESS" there is a problem :-/

I'm the oldest of 4, I now have 4 nephews (my kid sister just had her 3rd child, Jackson Patrick!) and 1 niece. My sister who just had her son, told me to go to Old Navy and buy an outfit for my niece for her bday. My niece had just turned 5. The only thing I found for her were midrift this, or midrift that, low cut pants or low cut shorts, THONGS for a child, and half shirts...I can't even begin to tell you what I was thinking...I felt like someone kicked me in the rubber parts, and left the store in disgust. I went to Toys R Us and bought her a gift from there. I asked my sister to please never send me on a clothing trip for my niece again.

THONGS for children...seriously? I get disgusted just thinking about it.

I don't care who it is, male/female, but when someone rolls the tops of their pants down, and then bends down/over (happens with the nurses aides and some nurses I work with) and I see half of their moon...I'm like SERIOUSLY?

I digress...I'll end up going on forever...lol.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

hey stranger.. nice to see you!!.. my niece was walking around with pants that said juicy on the butt... a few years back... just shaking my head because I know my sister bought them for her
