Fashion trends you miss(or don't)

Very pretty Allison!

I had to laugh when you brought up the topic of leisure suits. My wife just last year threw out the pants from a powder blue leisure she bought for me back in the 1960's. She tossed the jacket several years earlier because it was so out of style. The darn things never showed wear and stains just didn't stick to them. It was like that old Alec Guiness movie, "The Man in the White Suit" where an inventor thought he would revolutionize the world by creating a fabric that wouldn't wear out, and instead the entire industry conspired to suppress it because no one would then need new clothes.

thanks Ronnie... yeah nothing like polyester!!.. fire proof too!!!

What a lovely couple you two make and a very nice pic too. I hate shopping, avoid it as much as possible. Only time it's fun is when it is for somebody else. So I usually only go once or twice a year and buy all the clothes for that year that I need. Women's sizes are so wacked. You guys have a much more sensible system with actual measurements as choices. The other thing is that if you do not fit in the average range of sizes you have to pay way more or have everything altered etc.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Lovely pic, Allison.

I hate shopping also, probably cuz I'm not in the 'normal' range. I used to buy a lot of men's sweaters just to get the sleeves long enough.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thank you... yeah I guess the height could be a big problem with pants as well... I have gotten so bad with buying new clothes that I will just grab something that catches my eye at wallyworld when going for something else.. and not even try it on.. Michele goes nuts when I say I don't care about shoes either... she is a big purse & shoe person... she will buy me a purse now and then just because I will use the same one until it falls apart.. when she has to change hers with the occasion or weather

Nice pic of you and Randy.
I'd be happy to be anyone's personal shopper. I did that for a guy we used to go to church with. I did all his Christmas shopping for him, he paid me $5 a gift.

Don, funny my oldest bro had that powder blue suit, he wore it to every function I can remember, even his second wedding. Here is a pic of some of our family, at an after funeral lunch this is 1987(I think).

Nice pic, Allison. You look great.

Funny, Don and Jen.

Jen, another Lech sighting!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh yeah and are you loving my Pat Benatar hair?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

you are a heart breaker Jen!!

Jan-- its a pain! I laugh/ cringe at 'talls' with a 34 inch inseam--a crucial inch and a half too short. Eddie Bauer has everything offered in tall in the catalog, which works for my top half, but for pants, need Lands end styles that they'll hem to 36. A friend said try Victorias Secret for long pants--and the ones she was wearing did not look trampy on her. My daughter found me a sweater at American Eagle which has long sleeves and not too young looking. C'mon warm weather and capris and short sleeves.

Sorry- back to the 70s!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I am so in love with LandsEnd, except they changed the cut in the pants; so did Lee! But this has nothing to do with the topic. My funniest vision is of all these kids in a nursing home at age 85 with holes in their bellybuttons, tongues, eyebrows, etc, 12 holes in each ear and stretched out wrinkled tatoos.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I hear ya, Sally.

That is a funny picture, Carrie.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

oh except I rarely am willing to pay the price for Eddie Bauer--even the sale price.

ooh carrie-now I picture an 85 yr old lady with a rose tattoo on her shoulder or ankle...

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah like this?? this is REAL attractive

Yes - it will come to that! And they'll also be deaf from the iPods and will have lost all use of their thumbs. Boy, won't they be fun!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Does anyone remember the Butterfly Wing or Bat Wing shirts of the mid 70's?

Thumbnail by pixie62560

Yes.........

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I had one that was actually pretty is colors, blues and purples. Surprised right? LOL

Now these embroided hippy shirts I used to babysit bratty little kids to be able to afford them!! I still have one or 2 packed away somewhere, they fit still too, just my DD's have a fit when i wear them. I'll put one on every now and then just to drive them nuts. ^_^

Thumbnail by pixie62560

Yes I had them also. They are actually ebay material now.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

LOL

Serious people buy that stuff. Harley Davidson is a wicked seller. Just found one on ebay - a Tank Top 70's went for 76 bucks!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Holy Cow!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Baby Boomers are the most nostalgic group.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Ya, because we remember how it used to be and like every generation, mostly only the good things and there were a lot of them.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Those shirts are actually back in

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I've seen them.

Hubby says he never understood the appeal of the parachute pant phase of the 80's.

One men's trend I could not stand was perms. Having normally curly hair, I would often be asked if it was a perm! Ugh.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

My ex sil talked my brother into getting one...too funny!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I could always tell when it was a perm vs natural. Looked very effeminate with the perms.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I gave my husband a perm once...boy that was funny!!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, I am STILL asked if I have a perm!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - an obvious nudist colony joke springs to mind!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Well, I guess it *would* spring to YOUR mind, wouldn't it?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

ever been to a nude beach?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No, but it's on my list of things to do. ^_^

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

heehee

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Have you??
