What are some of the fashion trends you loved and hated???

These could stay in the 70's

Wow - lots of masculinity in that shot. ^_^

Thought bell-bottoms were really stupid. And platform shoes. Leisure suits were the worst! Those jackets with the fringe were pretty pathetic as well.

Loved minis, hot pants, tube tops. Liked the big hair of the 80's.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

More recently, the baggy pants hanging down revealing your underwear to the world drives me nuts. Also don't like the women's jeans with the white streaks on the thighs - especially on young girls. Looks like they've been grinding someone.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh MY!!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I loved the designer jean fad, but wouldn't be able to wear those skin tight jeans now.

How about the "Farrah" hair???

Pants on the ground, pants on the ground, looking like a fool with your pants on the ground....HATE that fad

Bell bottoms are ok but not the Elephant Bell Bottoms. You might as well wear a long skirt.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah they def looked like a skirt.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Two things bug me a lot and I agree with Victor. Those jeans falling off look stupid. I miss a nice fitting pair of jeans on guys that show off their butts, btw DH still wears them. Also bugs me that teenage girls dress like hookers and then wonder why they get no respect. There is a difference between looking nice, stylish and sexy without looking like you are advertising a trade. Trends come and go thank goodness and we all fall for them to some extent, but I am too old and lived through to many to worry about how fashion forward I am thankfully.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I agree, and have posted a number of times about the way girls dress these days - even in church!

New trend for 3,4 5, 6, 7 year old girls to wear high heals. They see them they want them. Well little girls need to be littler girls not little women. They need to run, fall down get up and do it again and again. NOT IN HEELS.

Another thing - Body Piercing. A earring or two or three is ok. Maybe the toung or a place that is not out to be seen. But people are taking it to outerspace. Like a big hole in the ear with a big round wooden hole is too much. Pierced lips - nope I wont kiss them. Spikes in the eyebrows - nope I wont rub up againt them either!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not into tattoos or piercings. And what about the forked tongue thing? Gross.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

ewwwww, I saw a woman once with a row of 1" metal posts inserted down the back of her neck

Bake to the 70's - I dont miss. Like Celeste, I am too old for this anymore.

hi " neighbors"~~Those extreme 70s --- so funny! I find I sometimes till see 70s-80-s style elements and think they're just normal cuz thats when I was forming my adult view. Jacqueline Susanne by the way has barely aged and still has that great wavy hair. Piercing is being way overdone around here too!!!! Little girls in heels drives me nuts. And being tall myself, I am glad platforms are gone and flats are still kinda in--(right?) I did have to have a pair of dressy platforms in highschool--towering over the rest of the church on Sunday!! Where did saddle shoes go?? I wore them for four years and seem to me they were sturdy and comfy enough! Ugh--wooden clogs in 1979! By the time you get to size ten they weigh a ton!. Candies shoes! Not cute in a ten. We had a nickname for Candies clogs and it was not a nice polite one....implied loose morals in the wearer.
I just ordered a pair of 'boot cut' pants but they are flares, really, will need to take them in, feels funny. whop whop whop whop
I still like my short shorts and skirts for the backyard and cutoff jeans.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

hey shick those jeans are totally in style again!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Anything that cannot be reversed or easily concealed I think is really dumb. Like I said these things come and go after a few years and then you face a lot of expense trying to undo a stupid decision. Where are the parents in the case of kids and some of this stuff.

If I put those jeans on now I would have a MUFFIN TOP

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

LOL you are not alone.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Loved Farrah hair (feathered out at the sides) and hiphuggers. Definite 'muffin top' now. AACCKKK!

Did have a pair of high heels in high school, but like you, Sally, I was always the tallest one around 'cept for some of the guys. No heels now. Didn't do the high hair either.

Liked mini skirts, I could touch the bottom hem with my fingers as I stood. Long legs here.

My flight instructor wore those shirts open to his belt. You know what he looked like pulling up to the airport in his turquoise Continental Mark 4. He was a good instructor though. LOL

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yeah Sally you and Jan def did not need heels of any kind, now me on the other hand.....
I loved those Dr Scholl's sandals, they were the best.
Love that pic Sherrie.

Jan that flight instructor must have been a sight, did he have the chains too?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I loved bell bottoms and still do, the make thick thighs look a bit slimmer!!

I hate that you can see girls thongs sticking out, absolutely wrong in my eyes. Muffin tops and tight clothes need to go...look in the mirror please!

The first photo remind me of an outfit my husband wore one Easter when we were teens, yellow/cream colored pants and a flowered/paisley type shirt!! OMG what were we thinking!

I must admit I love tattoos and most piercings if not over done. The big whole in the ears though make me cringe a bit!! We are definitely a tattoo family, my son is working on getting his license.

I had big hair in the eighties, don't want any of those styles to come back!! LOL Liked the Farah loook in the 70s.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

LOL, Jen, he did as a matter of fact.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I am short but hate heels. Love me some Birki's though. Still wear them. If it wasn't for winter and laws that require them, shoes should be eliminated entirely imho.

Back in the 70's I had a pair of Sole Suckers. They were a flat like a flip flop and you just stuck your foot on it. They get dirty you wash them off, let them dry and stick your foot back on. There was no straps or anything to hold them on.

EDITED - THEY ARE BACK!!!

Sherrie, I am loving those sandals I may have to buy me a pair.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Very cool Sherrie, but too big. They need kid sizes. Sound very comfy.

Go to search and type in strapless topless sticky sandals and different sites will popup

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yeah - I don't like clothing that implies loose morals for the wearer. I prefer clothes that ENCOURAGE loose morals by the wearer.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Velcro Victor?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Was at an Irish pub and the girl at the next table had on a pair of low cut jeans, I could see her butt crack. I thought that was only for plumbers?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

When she sees a girl wearing a high mini, my mom always says that if she beds over we'll see her breakfast!

I dont get it.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I know I am not in the best shape ... and I know I should not wear certain items... I am not sure if the self confidence leads people to wear things they shouldn't ... I am all for someone having confidence in the way they look.. but boy some of those low rise jeans & high cut shirts should not be made in large sizes.. there were two girls at a bar we watched our friends band... we used to call them the Patrick twins (spongebob).. the muffin top was out just like him... it was painful to watch the drunkin dancing .. and they were not young girls.. grown adults!!!!

I just don't get it

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, I really think some people just don't care. Others are trying to relive their past or trying to stay young somehow.

So did anyone keep any of these past fashions?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

well I wouldn't consider myself trendy .. I am sort of stuck in my past.. the last time I went clothes shopping and really cared about it.. I was not sure what was appropriate anymore.. it was for a wedding and I was so darn lost

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Let me know if you have to go shopping for another wedding, I LOVE shopping. Shame is I don't really need anything now since I work from home.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I might take you up on that Jen.. I almost started crying in macy's when I couldn't find anything and it was the 3rd or 4th store I went to.. and I really hate doing it.. I believe black or white should not be worn to a wedding... and the only nice dresses I could find were black.. at the time I was thinner and I got lucky and found something not black at Joyce Leslie ... even though this dress was tagged as a large

hmm, if breakfast is a euphemism, its very ...creative?

aw onewish, you guys are cute. jen you are hired, be my custom shopper too.

I haven't kept anything, but can distinctly remember some clothing items from my teen years, more so than any school material from the same time period.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thank you Sally
