I have placed 5 cup and saucer vine seeds in a wet paper towel and put it in a zip lock bag. I put the bag on top of my cable box because it is warm. I am just starting to see sprouts on a few of them. My question is when should I put them in soil and in what direction. Sprout side down in soil or up. I have also put seeds in a few pet pots and have had no sign of growth. I really want to grow this vine this year and though it would better my chances if I try this methed as well. but I do not know what to do now.

Seed Germination
HI Lori: That is the way I start all my seeds.
As soon as you see the sprouts, plant them at the recommended depth. Sometimes it is hard to decided if it is root, or leaf nodes. What I do is plant it on the sided so that the seed can decide which way to send the sprouting part. I do this with daylilies. What I thought was the root, turned out to be the top of the seed.
Below are sprouting seeds of daylilies to show what I mean. The white part turned out to be the growing point where leaves developed. Could have fooled me.
Lori - I tried cup & saucer vine last year. I put mine in sterile seed starting mix when I saw signs of germination and put them under lights. I attempted to put mine in sprout side up but I don't think it matters. I used 40 watt household bulbs, just make sure they are "cool burning bulbs" and keep them about 2" above the growing plants. Mine grew into quite a nice vine, sadly we had the coolest July on record last year and I'm not sure that was the cause but mine never bloomed. Good luck with yours!
