Howdy all. So, I moved to a new place half a year ago and took some of the wandering jew from the old place, only five small plants, placed it near a cypress tree in a mostly shady area and it did great. Then about a month ago we had this hard freeze for a week even in SE LA. So....I know the freeze zaps it, but I've only had this type for about four years now and mostly kept it in pots, these five plants managed to cover a 7x4' area in a few months. What I'm wondering is - is there any chance they'll come back? All the tops are totally dead, and it is thin soil they're planted in, covered with bit of cypress needles.
Take a wait and see approach?
Or just go ahead and turn the whole area over and fertilize and put something new in the ground in a month?
Many thanks,
B.
Wandering Jew "Zebrina" after the hard freeze
With anything that has suffered frost damage it's best to take a wait and see approach. Foliage is damaged at higher temperatures than what it would take to actually kill the plant. I think this one is supposed to be hardy to zone 9 which means there's a good chance it'll come back for you.
They may surprise you. If they were already covered before the frost they should be fine.
