Here's what's been going on at my house today during the snow storm...and this is just a small piece of the action

Very nice start to the new thread Met!! Really like the Ring-necked Duck series, love the way the water and everything look's and the tail at the end is the best.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Holy Moly did that last thread go fast. Loved all the pix there everyone!

Al, gorgeous as usual. That's a cute duck series and the black crested titmouse is adorable. I don't think I've seen one on the forum before. Not sure though.

Well I have a new lifer. Common Merganser. I went to the Mississippi River to photograph eagles. Last year there were 200 and the past three times I've been there this year there have only been about a half dozen or less. So I was glad to see this pair.

And then there were these on the far side of the river. I'm not sure what they are. Kinda look like the Mergansers in breeding plumage. The bill seems to short for Goldeneye. Anyone want to chime in? I haven't put it on the ID forum.

Hi Mrs_Ed. Those are the male Common Mergansers. Nice shots!

South Hamilton, MA

Wonderful shots on both threads. Like Merganzer hair-dos & the perky rb woodpeckers on the last thread.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Thanks Burd. I've been struggling with a new manual lens and lack of sun! But really glad that it's good enough for me to ID a new bird on the life list!

Sandusky, OH

Congrats on the new bird Mrs_Ed! I should have said that before. lol

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

thanks! I was hoping to get one soon! I was going through withdrawals!

North Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

Everyone shots are so spectacular!! The Ringed Neck series is unbelievable! The Goldfinches, Titmouse, Merganser, etc are absolutely wonderful! Congrats on the new find, Marna.

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Great start to the new thread. Excellent series on the duck Methodical.

f_chisolm... LOLOL about your cats! I laughed out loud when I read your post.
Our cats could watch the birds all day, but have never banged their heads on the glass!

Met, Excellent photos! The series of both the Ring-neck Duck and Black-crested Titmouse are excellent! I absolutely adore the Titmouse, there is so much detail in your pics.

Gary, Great portrait of the Raven!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

thanks Kim.
Here's also a flock of Canada Geese that I accidentally disturbed. I was being so quiet too. And you can see I was hiding behind some grass.

Beautiful photos on the last thread. So many pretty birds, it's certainly fun to see all of them.

Met, beautiful series of the diving duck! Nice start for the new thread. Love that colorful titmouse and cute sparrow. Looks like a full house at your feeder. Goldfinches and juncos are always fun to watch.
Mrs Ed, congrats on the new lifer. Pretty one of the geese too.
Gary, beautiful photo of the raven!

I watched an immature Bald Eagle land in this tree below our house and by the time I went for the camera, the young bird had left and was replaced by this adult. Funny how all our eagles land in this one tree every day.

This young sparrow was trying to get the peanut butter at the back of the hole. I took the hint and went out to refill all the holes.

That last thread has got be one of our fastest ever! And man, were there not a ton of magazine quality photos on it.

Great start on the # 281, Methodical. I really liked the last shot of the Black-crested Titmouse.

Mrs_Ed - WOW, I was thinking you'd been at this so long, that you had run out of Lifers. :-) Congrats on the Common Merganser. I know you're thrilled. And ain't you got better things to do that sneaking around, scaring a bunch of geese.

Grasmussen - great Common Raven portrait, I'd say it was worthy to grace to cover of Edgar Allen Poe's book..

ducbucln - Truly nice capture of the adult Bald Eagle. I've never seen one in the wild.

---------------------------------------

Well, yesterday, between periods of rain, I sat in the comfort of my car and snapped a few pics. In an attempt at brevity, I've combined several photos into one. It was fun and I was bored - no football on TV.

Here's a 2-in-1 of my friendly Brown-headed Nuthatch. B-h nuthatches are regulars around here.

Another 2-for-1. This illustrates how "covered up" I am with Goldfinches. I was using manual focus and the one on bottom is a bit out of focus.

I rather like this 3-for-1 of a Goldfinch directing its gaze at me.

Here's a Carolina Chickadee sharing a feeder with a ---- that's right, another Goldfinch.

No room for a Goldfinch on this feeder - Chipping Sparrows have taken it over.

Well, well, this Black Oil Sunflower seed feeder is apart from the other feeders and it looks like this male House Sparrow is having a leisurely meal.
