Looking for thin skinned cherry tomatoes

North Brunswick, NJ

What variety of cherry tomato has thin skins? I don't like those crack resistant ones that leave you with a mouth full of skin. Also, if you know where to get the seeds or plants that info would be useful.

Try "Tomatoberry" from Johnny's. Don't know what you mean by thin skinned, but this is a very good tomato.

You could also try Black Cherry and Dr. Carolyn (pink or yellow)...

Those are all excellent tasting Heirlooms and very prolific.

I keep telling myself to not grow anymore cherry tomatoes because they either have awful, thick skins or they have ridiculously thin skins that split 50% of the time.

My top 3 Cherry Tomatoes...

1. Riesentraube - One of the few cherry tomatoes that actually tastes like a tomato. Thin skinned and splits easily though. If I grow a cherry this year, this will be the one.

2. Black Cherry - Great flavor but 50% splitting for me. Very thin skins.

3. Sun Gold - Sweet, great taste but awful, thick skinned for me.

http://www.tomatogrowers.com/ should have them all.

I have heard good things about Riesentraube. Maybe that will have to go on my list for fall planting.

gaddict - I missed your second part about seeds... As mentioned, Tomato Growers Supply has good seeds, but there are countless sites to search out...

Tomatofest is an excellent source for Heirloom tomatoes...

Kelly, you need to add them to your list. Thin skinned(not near the amount of splitting of Black Cherry) and great tasting! Also love the way they cluster. I get tons of clusters numerous times throughout the year. I think I just talked myself into growing a few this year.

Have any of you ever tried current tomatoes. They really are'nt a tomato but taste identical. The tomatoes are the smallest,on huge vines and bare till frost.I try to have at least one vine of them. PineTree seeds has them.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I think I'll try Riesentraube. If I remember, I'll let you know how they were.
