I want to try growing a plumeria again, but I only have room and time for one, so I have to choose very carefully. I want something pink or fuchsia, possibly combined with orange, and I want a POTENT fragrance!
Clare_CA posted the following list, which seems to be an expansion of a list I found at a Dutch website:
"Most desirable plumerias for fragrance:
Angus Selection #3
Aztec Gold
Bali Hai Gold
Bali Whirl
Celadine
Charlotte Ebert
Daisy Wilcox
Espinda
Gold Coast Peachy
Grove Farm
Key West Pink
Loretta
Mele Pa Bowman
Miami Rose
Nassau
Pacific Pearl
Pink Pansy
Samoan Fluff
Singapore
Vera Cruz Rose
Vera Cruz Lutica"
Other research I've done makes me think "Kauka Wilder" should be added to this list.
"Miami Rose" is one of the pink selections on this list, and I've read that it has a strong fragrance in many other places. I've seen its fragrance described as "rose", "coconut oil", and "suntan lotion". Both "rose" and "coconut oil" sound appealing, but "suntan lotion" scares me!
Does it really smell like suntan lotion?
Does it smell like suntan lotion, but manage to do it right somehow?
Does plumeria "Miami Rose" really smell like suntan lotion?
A lot of suntan lotions used to have a coconut-oil type of smell, so if it does smell like coconut oil that's probably where the description of smelling like suntan lotion came from. I've personally never smelled that particular plumeria so I couldn't tell you for sure what it smells like though.
