gardenpom: Oh, how pretty! I've never seen the collared doves up this way, they are really lovely! The Cedar Waxwings are so cool! My next door neighbor says they've had huge flocks of them in the Sugarberry trees, eating the berries and dropping them on their porch roof. She says they always know when the waxwings are in the tree by the * ping * ping * pinging * on the roof! I haven't seen them perched yet, only in flight ... I need to pay better attention!

Sandusky, OH

Elvis battled several Starlings off his feeder. However each Starling was willing to duke it out.

Of course, Elvis wins! Mine usually does too. Lin, this is the best picture I have gotten of Cedar Waxwings, last year when they were after the berries on my Florida privet.

Couple more shots from yesterday and a rare Cardinal shot. They usually don't come to the feed station until the sun sets.

I still can't imagine looking outside and seeing all those exotic birds we are used to seeing in cages!

(Zone 1)

I've been showing my husband some of these lovely photo's. He really liked that Sulphur crested Cockatoo! He thinks the Corella and Galah are really nice too. He had an Indian Ring-neck Parrot as a pet for years but always wanted a Cockatoo!

Hi Plantladylin, yes the first pic I posted, is a Starling. They are aggressive toward one another and with the BlueJay at the suet feeder. I have tons of them. The Blue Jays, are regular visitors to my back yard as well. They will eat almost anything I put out there.
Hel, the Cockatoo is a lovely bird.
Nanny, I believe you when you said, you cried of withdrawal syndrome. I'm addicted too. I bought the Rebel T1i kit, during the big boxingday sale, and bought the EF 70-300mm len 1:4-5.6 IS USM. I never go anywhere without it. I'm in learning mode too. :))

Hooray for Elvis! Native birds in charge!

Florence, MS(Zone 8b)

I went to the woodpecker woods to see what was about and found that the river was flooding. These mallards were swimming where I usually walk to get to the woods.

The high water must have had the egrets grouped together. Usually I only see them together when they are nesting. This was above where I usually go into the woods. I had to walk an extra quarter mile to get across the water.

The woods were empty of some of the birds that are there this time of the year but some woodpeckers were present. This Downy supplied the best opportunity for photos.

WOW!!! This thread really took off!

Lin... Looks like you've made a little friend in that Mockingbird!

MagaretK.... That second Galah is a stunner!

Burd... Your Red-breasted Nuthatch is superb!
I like the series of Elvis and the Starlings too.

Gardenpom... Beautiful Blue Jay!

Clinton, MD(Zone 7a)

Margarett and Hel you get to photo birds that we only see in cages at the zoos etc. Nice captures. Margarett that Galah kind of favors the Pyrrhuloxia...but larger

Love your Goldfinch Met!
I had not even looked at your written message on #1, and was thinking...
"She looks llike she has on heels!"
ROFL!!!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I have a couple more from today (yesterday!) that didn't make the opening line-up!

A female Dark-eyed Junco... she sat there for the longest time just watching the other birds.

I never tire of the Downy!
We have two regular pairs...
A larger pair and a smaller one...
This is the smaller male.

I love the Titmouse! They are so comical, but so fast they can be hard to photograph.
I was able to watch this one particular bird this afternoon (yesterday!),
and found that they are really evil little things too!
There are just some that you can never please!!! Gees!!!

Always in search of the peanuts... I did not realize until I watched this one little guy,
that he won't have anything but peanuts!

To begin the series...

"Looking.... looking... I know there are peanuts in there...."
