Are plumerias a hazard to pets?

Portland, OR(Zone 8a)

I read that plumerias are in the dogbane family along with oleanders, and they are poisonous. But HOW poisonous?

My neighbor's cat occasionally nibbles on my potted plants. Even though I might be delighted if the cat became ill enough to develop an aversion to eating my plants, I really don't want to see it drop dead. Should I worry about planting a plumeria?

Ice Tiger. Here is a link to the UC-Davis site. According to it, plumeria is a dermatitiss danger to animals. Also, on the DG forum Plant and Tree ID, there is a permanent post on plant toxicity and invasiveness. In it you will find a number of resources to answer your questions about our furry friends and plants.

Thank you for the "Toxic Plants" list. I've added it to my "Plants" folder in my Favorites menu.

I see that even though oleander and periwinkle receive a "1" for "Major Toxicity", plumeria does NOT, so I'm not going to let an itchy cat come between me and that intoxicating fragrance.

Now I "just" have to pick a plumeria...

Glad to help. The links in Plant ID forum have tons of good info. Good luck finding your perfect plummie...grin
