I want to say that I never said what I did to get a membership paid for, I just wanted the new folks to know that I so love it here, but things are really rough for us, next month had it not been for the new law that was passed to extend the cobra co payment we would have been back to do you pay the house payment or the health insurance payment.... but we now have another six months....

Also, who ever was the kinds soul who paid my membership dues, you are a true blessing, and I dearly thank you so much.

Janet

Phoenix, AZ

A beautiful place to be, indeed.

Ditto!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

I`m unsure if someone already mentioned this and I may be simply be echoing what has been said but Dave is the cornerstone of Daves Garden. Once the cornerstone is in place, the entire foundation and the whole building is aligned to that stone. If it's off even a little bit then so is the rest of the building and then everything else gets out of line too. So I`m confident things will be just fine whatever they decide to do.

wonderful news meadowyck. i always love it when i hear that somebody on daves did that for someone else. good luck to you and your family.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Janet - I had someone give me a one year gift subscription for DG this past year, too! I don't know if it came from the "The Garden Angel Fund" or from a member here. But I hope whoever did that for me is reading this thread and my post so that I can say, "THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!" :-) :-)

I know the emotional and financial toll on you and your family when there is a job loss. Out of 5 (me included) of my immediate family members (3 of which live with me), 4 have lost their jobs or will be within a month. I am the only one still working at my job. Unfortunately, I don't make that much. Florida is not the place to be right now if you need a job. My county has the second highest unemployment rate in the state and the surrounding counties are almost as high. No jobs. You know when the minimum wage fast food restaurants aren't hiring, that the economy is really bad.

I hope your dh is able to find another job soon! Hang in there! {{{Hugs}}}

Dandridge, TN(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the recipe- I've made that for years but didn't recognize it by that name.
Last week I bought the crescent rolls to make it and then misplaced the recipe. I wanted to try a little lemon in the cream cheese to make it lemony, hope it turns out.

Crossville, TN

My best friends DH LOVES the lemon best...I buy the Lemon Pie Filling and just spread it on top of the cream cheese.

Oh...My neice in Virginia tell me they call it Williamsburg Bread...that's with out any thing other than the cream cheese and cinnimon. Jo

Someone paid for my membership this year. It is nice to know someone cared and wanted me around even though at the time I couldn`t afford to sign up. It makes me hope maybe I could do the same for someone else. Karen

Port Charlotte, FL(Zone 10a)

Karen...and when you're back and on your feet....somebody is really going to appreciate that!

Baton Rouge area, LA(Zone 8b)

Thanks! A little company makes it go better while we wait on the warm weather to return. :)

Port Charlotte, FL(Zone 10a)

We had a beautiful day here!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I'll tell you ... I can't wait for the economy to improve enough here so that I can "pass it forward"! I have always been one of those folks that would reach out to help others. It's very hard being on the receiving end now. I hope the projections are wrong about how long it will take Florida to recover. I am hearing it could take several years. We are around 15% unemployment in my county, but I would guess it to be closer to 18% because of the number of foreclosures and all the folks whose 26 weeks of unemployment compensation has been used up. Thank goodness for the extensions! :-)

It's nice to have a place like DG to come to. It helps to take one's mind off all the stressful things in life! :-) There are so many wonderful people here on DG! I am sure that Dave inspires a lot of folks, too! :-)

Port Charlotte, FL(Zone 10a)

Becky...Other than my good Man, I truly believe it's Dave's that actually preserves my sanity these days. It's an escape for me.

I'm a General Contractor...who hasn't built a home in over 2 years. I'm into my 30th year now in the same business and have never seen anything like this. Luckily I have a rental business for short term vacation rentals, but even that's down. I have a staff that is so dedicated and wonderful and they're my family. How long I can keep them going is another question. I don't see any quick fixes here. So far, everybody still has a job.

In the meantime, I try to pass it forward as much as I can these days. I truly believe it all comes back to you. And if it doesn't, it's a good feeling to share when you're able.

Xai Xai, Mozambique

Everybody is so wonderful here!! i am a new member, and i have made some WONDERFUL friends here!!
i love you all! :-)

Yes, DG has been an escape for me too. I have met some wonderful people here, def. including y'all. It is a great place to be able to go and learn about gardening and get great support from friends all over the world! It is truly a Global Community!

(Zone 1)

Welcome Isaac! We all love this place. I subscribed because of the gardening information, and came to learn so much about other things too while visiting so many of the other forums. It is a wonderful, friendly, family place!

Grandview, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi Isaac,
I have read some of your threads in the past. I am very impressed with you. I am very proud to have you as part of our DG family :)You take care.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Isaac, it is so neat meeting you! I am kinda a newbie, only a year here.. and I echo your sentiments about DG and friends. Best place to take a vacation without leaving your seat.. so many places in the world represented here!

(Zone 1)

This place should be called Dave's Garden World!

Crossville, TN

Speaking of Dave...Jo

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Yes Becky, it is hard on us all, my plan is to do a member(s) for others as well once we get set again. I mainly made the statement in hopes that the new owners would not raise the dues.... as for some of us it might be too much to do.

I've tried several times in the past when I saw a posting that someone wasn't going to be able to renew their membership but by the time I saw it someone else had beat me to it...LOL

This place is wonderful, a home away from home.

Welcome Isaac, you couldn't have landed in a better place than DG.

Becky, I'll be saying a few prayers for your family in hopes that things change for them ASAP!

Well I have been off a bit in a do or die situation and all this is kind of news to me but not unexpected. I will say this. I am a Old Cyber Angel (no longer active) and I will say without a doubt among other things I done on there DG was one of the cleanest sites I ever reviewed for them.

But alas I am going to have to say Dave when you set down at the table with a bunch of highly skilled poker players your taking your chances. It is the same with todays bussiness players.

If I was you I would maybe just pull the rip coord on my golden parachute (if you have one) and go start another site if you can legally get away with it. I got a nothion this was the plan all along.

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

My Plant Scout fee is due. Will there be changes to how that has been?
Should I pay it or wait?
Thanks.
Alice

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Alice, to the best of my knowledge, everything is continuing on schedule, as-is. We have recently received many PlantScout renewals. If you need help changing your inventory list, please let Melody or me know ;o)

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Terry :)

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

Yes, this is looking like a big year for PlantScout. The renewals and new sign ups are keeping me hopping....but do let me know if you need anything at all. I'll be delighted to help.
