what kind of plant do you suggest?

I am trying to find some plants that will do good in my living room & bedrooms & possibly even my bathroom. Here are the requirements for the kinds of plants that I need:
* Due to using a wood stove, the air is mostly dry in the whole house. When I think about it I do keep a can of water on top of the stove to add moister to the air.
* I need plants that can handle not having any sun light at all. I would like some plants that do not require grow lights either. Just something that don't seem to need light.
* I would also like to find plants that bloom or have pretty foliage for a long time.

Based on these 3 things, what kinds of plants would do well it my poor light-deficiency house?

One word, artificial.

Do you have any windows where you can put plants? Unless you're living in a cave I imagine you've got some light coming in from somewhere, so if you can take advantage of that then there may be some living plants you can grow. If you've a nice window or two, you can rotate plants around where they spend some time near the window, then rotate them to an area with less light for a while, then back to the window. That won't be enough for some plants, but you may find some things that would work that way. You're going to have a tough time getting anything to bloom though, typically to bloom plants need a more consistent source of good light, but you can probably grow some things that at least have nice foliage.

Here is a site that lists low-light houseplants http://urbanext.illinois.edu/houseplants/types_low.cfm (and if you google low light houseplants you'll find many other lists as well)

"cast iron plant" aspidistra elatior If you don't use any light in the areas you want to grow, then that will be hard for any plant, no matter how tough, but any light will help, natural or artificial. I have some plants under a table lamp with a compact fluorescent bulb and they seem fine, so it doesn't have to cost a mint or be hard to set up to have a happy plant.

Thanks yall. The place I want to put the plants is between the living room & kitchen. I have a small step up into the kitchen. On one side of the step, I have a plant stand & the other side has a pedestal. I want plants on both of them. But both are center of house with no windows around. Right now I have a peace Lily on the stand but it don't look to happy. I have a vase with water & pebbles with Bamboo growing in it a few feet from there. (Ok, the Bamboo isn't really growing to much, but is staying alive :) It don't seem to mind not getting any sunlight.

My living room does have windows but all are blocked by furniture. Same problem with the bedroom. The bathroom on the other hand has no window at all in it. The bathroom light is always on though. But I use the energy efficant bulbs & the plant wouldn't be any where near the bulbs so I don't think it would help much.

Is there any plants that I can do like my bamboo? *grow in water only & no dirt* I love it because it's so easy to take care of & I don't have to worry about the bugs getting into it.

I would try the rotation system that I suggested and see if that helps. Is there a way to pull some of your furniture out slightly from the windows so that you have room to put a small shelf/table right by the window and set some plants there?

I've seen pothos or philodendron plants grown in water, and it can poke along to find light if you let it :). I've seen sweet potatoes started in water, but don't know how long they will grow that way. Some things are just fun to experiment with. I agree with Ecrane's idea about switching a plant around to keep up the plants energy reserves. If you open the curtains for the daytime, you can grow some plants further in the room instead of right by the window. Low light is at least light you can read by I think so if you can read on the step during the day, it is getting some light, but if not, put a floor lamp in the area to solve the issue and spotlight your plant. There are many variations, this came up in a quick search... I found a single light lamp for like 15, so if that would help, check the store.

Try a snake plant... my friend forgot one in her attic for 3th months all the way across the room from the closest window, and didn't water it the whole time - it was still alive and though droopy perked right up when she moved it downstairs to a window and gave it a little water...
