Rumors about changes at Dave's Garden

Well, I shared some news this morning with some close friends of mine on the site, and that information is moving around the site here, so I might as well post here so that everybody can learn what I know.

1) NameMedia has sold Dave's Garden to another company.

2) I've been told that there is no place for me at the new company.

This morning I gave that information to some friends on the site.

A few minutes ago, however, I learned some new information.

1) The purchasing company DOES want me to continue to be a part of the site, and they do see a role for me. What that role might be is undetermined at the moment, but they are at least reaching out to me. I don't yet know what their intentions with that are, but I'll be talking with them more about that in the days to come.

2) The people who I've talked to at the company seem like very nice people, and it's not their fault that this confusion arose. I don't blame them. I think there is a very good chance that they will be a good "new parent" for Dave's Garden. They seem like genuinely nice people, and they were VERY sorry to learn that I was told that there was no role for me.

So, that's what I know right now. There are a lot of conversations going on behind the scenes, but right now is not the time to panic. :-) I'll post more later. Feel free to dmail me or post here if you have any questions.

Thanks for clearing that part up, Dave, a lot of us were pretty depressed to learn you would be leaving. If there's a chance you will stay, that's good!

Too early for April fools joke. Sad, I am sad. Hope they treat you right, Dave.

Thanks so much for addressing this for us Dave. It's better to hear it straight from you than from rumors. I started to post a thread a few minutes ago asking, but decided to wait a little longer, I'm glad you did. I hope this is an easy transition for Dave's just as the last move was. I am very relieved to hear that there are possibilities for you to remain - - Don't scare us like that!! We can't cope with the loss of Dave and what you've given us here. I appreciate all of your hard work on this place you've made for us and hope you and your team's involvement will continue for years to come. We're so spoiled! Thanks again!

so glad to hear it. dave's garden is not dave's garden without you dave. they need to hear us loud and clear on that.

Victor!!

Dave, thanks for sharing that news with us. I hope the new owner does well by all of us but especially you.

hehehe @ Victor :)

Thecurrent owner (Namemedia) also owns: http://www.gardens.com/

Just a note, I'm not suggesting anything.

Dolores, CO(Zone 5b)

Well, Dave, that is a very good business move on their part, keeping you. I fear that the new owners may not be aware of what kind of a forum this is, and how many of us have grown with you and the site. No Dave = far less membership. The integrity and quality of this site has been grown by you. Namemedia was very wise to keep you, we barely noticed a change. Again I say, no Dave, no Dave's Garden. Wishing you (and us) all the best!

I can sympathize, Dave. I've been told by my wife on a number of occasions that she had no role for me. Then, magically, she changed her mind. Whew!

I wonder if this has any factor in the sale: http://www.dnjournal.com/archive/lowdown/2009/dailyposts/20091113-2.htm

Yep, no Dave, no new memberships. Don't they know that some of us older ladies are getting too slow to run around and look for our Dave. I sure was dreading that very much. I know I haven't been here as long as some of these wonderful people but I wanted you to know that we "arewith you in whatever you do" Don't make this old woman run around looking for you, Young man.
Thanks

Much better answer than the earlier story. Please keep us informed.

There is a higher power!!!!! This post has made my day. I'm so grateful that my family will continue..

Thank you all for your kind words and support.

There's a lot of uncertainty about where we go from here, and what's going to happen, but it's not the emergency that we all thought at the beginning.

I honestly don't know what my role with DG is going to be in the future. I had been told that I had no place with the new company, but that turns out to be completely incorrect. The new company wants me to continue to be a part of DG, and it's now just a matter of me talking with them to figure out what that role will be.

They seem like genuinely nice people who want to do the right thing, and all this confusion is not their or my fault. I think there is a huge chance that they will turn out to be a very good thing to happen to DG.

So, more updates later. I have many phone calls coming during the coming days. One thing is set in stone, though: nobody is pushing me out the door.

2ndChance, the link didn't work for me--could you please repost?

Dave is there anything we can do? I feel horrible about renewing my subscription a few weeks ago( did it early) I sure wish I hadn't so I could vote with my feet if they change anything about what makes Dave's what it is.... that means You, Trish, Terry, Melody the Ubers & everybody but especially you.
Gosh do they get to keep all the great contribtions made to Plantfiles? I know I gave my best because of what Dave's is now, that is what you & your team made it.

edit to add
Dave, just read your post above... Yea!!!

My membership as a subscriber is due for renewal on May 5, 2010. I know that if Dave and his helpers aren't a part of DG at that time I won't be renewing either.

I hope whoever these people are that they understand how much all of us depend on Dave and his helpers to make this site as awesome as it is. If they don't, Dave, just let us know where you are and we'll be there instead!

Great, Dave. Thanks for the update,

I just wrote you a long email of woe after getting yours. I wish I had seen this first. I was so sad thinking it was an end of an era. Lets face it, Dave's Garden would not be Dave's Garden without you!

Edited because I was too excited to type in English!

Dave - let us know if we can help you in any way.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

So glad to hear that you'll be able to stick around Dave! Things would not be the same at all without you, but as long as they let you continue to play a role on the site I'm hopeful that DG will continue to be the DG I know and love!

I am a new subscriber but already I feel like Dave is what makes Dave's Garden and I would be most unhappy if he were to leave.

I was dreading 'Conan's Garden.'

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Oh thank you Victor for adding humor to what started out to be a dark day! We could start a "Team DaDa" chant, a take off of the popular Team CoCo for Conan.

Chandler, AZ(Zone 9b)

Dave and his crew is what Makes Daves Garden. It would not be what it is today, if that were not so. Why break something that is not broken. My biggest concern would be that even if you pay, you still get all the spam. That would be my exiting que. And Dave has been awesome in making sure that doesn't happen. We're behind you Dave. No Dave in the same or a higher capacity, no renewal for me.

LOL!

No Dave, no Dave's Garden. It's just that simple.

I sincerely hope the new folks have access to this thread, to see the huge amount of support and appreciation we all have for the team here. DG has never been just about the information, it's always been about the community as well. It would be truly a tragedy to lose that!

Chandler, AZ(Zone 9b)

Absolutely Dave, let us know if we can be of any assistance. We are behind you 1000%
