Great series Charlie! Love your snow geese!
That first shot of the red head from today is outstanding! Wow!

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Linth, wonderful pictures. Loved the Snow Geese. I saw several of them today but no pictures. I can't get close enough for a shot of the Eagle nest that is located about 10 miles from here. It is a large nest and I see two of them often. It is in a very large tree along the Okanogan river, but no road near it.

Wow those Redheads are absolutely gorgeous! The Scaups are beautiful too.

All excellent shots Linth!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

So glad you told us how many photos you took-I knew it would be many. I can only imagine how much noise you were hearing as you took some of these. They may have been breathtaking to you while you were actually seeing them, but they're the same to me just seeing your results. Gorgeous photos! The colors in them are spectacular.

Karen, later in the day, I drove to another location where lots of Redheads were present. I took a few photos but they were too far away, plus I illegally stopped on the road, got out and snapped a few photos, for the record.

Pelle, I normally see more Scaups but I have a difficult time distinguishing between the Greater and the Lesser Scaup.
The Redheads are quite attractive.

Donna, I only saw 2-3 Bald Eagles this weekend but all too far away, likewise. Hope you get to see yours a lot closer.

Thanks, duc. I always take a lot of photos because one second changes a photo quite a bit, with a moving subject. The Snow Geese were active all day long. They would land and then take off again, constantly. It was so windy which made it feel quite cold and I had some concern that the wind might blow over my tripod, camera and lens. But seeing all of the Snow Geese helped ease the pain. I didn't change my camera settings all day, i.e. aperture priority F/8.

Here is a photo of a male Mallard with a leg band. I didn't see it before I looked at the photo but I can't pick up any identification numbers or letters.

Wow that is incredible!

The personnel at Blackwater just put a note on their weblog that they estimated the Snow Goose population on Saturday to be about 11,000. I thought it was only 10,000 ? (lol) I must have missed some.

Awesome pictures! Make me wanna travel NE from where I am. Linth. I've been lurking since I didn't have much to contribute to your thread. Beautiful work, please keep 'em commin'.

pelle, if you plan to do it this year, you don't want to wait too long. In less than a month, they will be gone. Another good place is Middle Creek Wildlife Preserve in Kleinfeltersville, PA. It is about a 2 -hour drive for you using the PA turnpike. Upwards to 80,000 Snow Geese visit there before their trek back north.

Mrs. Ed, I was getting cross-eyed trying to follow them all around me. They even dropped a "present" on my car while I was photographing them. I was afraid to look up.

You should have some good Snow Goose populations in Southern Illinois. I read somewhere that a few years ago they estimated a population of upwards to 300,000 in the southern end of the state. You may not have to travel too far.

Lily, thanks. I'm glad you enjoy looking at them. I've only looked at about 20% of them so far. But a lot of them are very similar.

Here is another Canada Goose .......
