Got my piggy box today . Were the last one on the route so got it late. my 4 year old gd goes home in the morning with her mommy carolyn, ...and I will look thru it then... Can't wait. Couldn't come at a better time. For those of you who don't know, my daughter Carolyn Cropper has been pretty sick for a while and has been recouperating at my house from two surgeries since Thanksgiving. In the meantime her husband left her because he can't handle anyone being sick and that adds a new set of problems. For those of you who knew and have been praying, Thank-you. She got her check-up today and they said she is doing great and no more surgeries!!!! yeah! This has been her 5th surgery for the same problem. Finally she's going to be ok! Our piggy boxes will be a new beginning so to speak! Thanks everyone for your kindness!
Cindy
Seed Swap and Chat #49 boxes enroute...
Sorry Chris, yours will come tomorrow.
Cindy, I'm so sorry about your daughter and hope she will be good as new soon. Spring is just around the corner and will be here before any of us know it and she will be back to planting and growing beautiful flowers and just enjoying the new year. Here is to new beginings! A bright new tomorrow and better than before. My prayers are with you.
Thank you everyone for the seeds and the effort it took to collect, dry, clean, sort, bag up, some made nice envelopes, and then to mail, and most of all Ella. It has been a real trip for a newbie. I love the seeds. It is going to be so cool to plant and see them grow and come up.
I am going to try winter sowing this year I think. Somehow I don't trust our weather. It is suppose to be 43 tomorrow. Unbelievable in January for us.
So, thank you again, It has been fun.
So many people went out of their way to add more seeds than I ordered I am sure. One said there were 3 in it and there were at least 6 packs. Thank you.
Jeanette
Hey, all, it's so fun reading about you all jumping up and down with glee with your boxes arriving. So far I've got mine sorted into "direct sow" sow in little pots in the warm, and winter sow. A neighbor came over took one look at the table and exploded "you're nuts" he said. Yes, but happy, too.
As for the montbretia - I think if you pot them up and put them in the garage they'll be fine. If the ground is soft enough to dig you could even plant them. I wintered them over in Missoula, Montana (though some of the more shallow ones died in very cold winters).
Happy planting!
okay inventoried my seeds. i didnt get a few that were promised but not complaining. i was waiting for my box to start sqealing though. hehe or at least snort.
anyway now to decide what to try to plant in my tiny window box.
mine are all cataloged and in the spreadsheet.... 273 seed packs.... i'll never be able to sow them all. and 32 of those are salvias... and not seed packs, varieties!!
and how awesome... i got some white African Marigolds!!
I'm thinking Star was handing out those Hollyhocks, as i got a ton of them too.
think i'm wrapping things up for the night....
Colchie, thanks for the montbretia info, but I don't have a garage, and the basement is warmer than my apartment, as the furnaces are there. Do you think the fridge might keep them as is til spring, or at least slow them down? I think the ground is frozen, as there are sheets of ice everywhere. If not, I guess I'll have to try an indoor garden, but as even my paperwhites are falling over, I don't have high expectations for them indoors.
I hope the rest of you, yoru boxes all arriv e tommorrow.
AJ.. Your s must have stoppe d off to visit soem friend s alogn the way is all I can say.
Imazadi.. Yep your oen of the oen s I owed and foudn the seed for, your Salvias and passifloria. Found the Salvia for Colchie too and somebody aske d me for Sunfloer autumn beauty and I forgot to writ e the name next to it on the paper so Ya have to tell me who ya was. I had 104 page s of ntoebook paper to read through and ove r 1300 oinks. My darn printer wouldn't work and print the papes for me, so I had to try adn go back through adn writ e them. So sorry I missed ya.
Found the Celery for Mechelle T and the Basil Lemom for Rather . Think ther e was one or two other packets I missed.
hehehehhehehe Yep Hollyhocks, Poppies and Daturas, we had a ton of . They need planted and love d too and you'd be surprised at how many folks wil stop and admire then in yoru gardens if ya plant them. They also feed the humemrs too and other benificials.
Perennially me.. They bulbs was raring to go when they got here. I kep t them in fridge in box so light wouldnt get to them and it did help to keep them from goign hog wild. if ya put back in fridge in you piggy box, it will hold them for a little whiel longer.
Mamawk.. Gla d she doesn't have to have any more surgeries . I know she been through alot and yep, ne w seeds, ne w start and ne w lif e that hopefully, wil just get better and better.
I used to try and sort between pernnials and annuals and such, but by the time i got sorted, would be to late to plant, so now a days I just grab and sow and get them to growing then worry abotu what they re later.
I hope evrybody wil try and grow and colect as much as they can this year. I imagien that with all the funky weather of rains and extree cold s and snow that will be meltign and ruing other folsk gardens, that next year ther e wil be lot so surviors lookign for a chance to rebuild.
Mygypsyrose... Yep, oodles and oodle s more folks this year, biggest swap ever . A real challenge this year, but great to have some ne wpiggie s that wil have gardens this year and thinsg able to share for future years. Those that did paperwork at least for next year will knwo mroe abotu their gardens and I cna try and grow mroe things that will their yards and have differnt seed for.
e gott a giv e a thansk to Dave too for upong the editis button and allowign us to hog the seed forum for several months. With otu his forums we woudln't eb able to do this, so thank you DAVE!!!!!!!!!!! Aprpeciate it.
Sorry I couldn't post sooner, but yesterday was a very busy day. Got my box, all can say is wow! I did receive a snack baggie labeled Mindy03. It contains 3 packages of seeds, Arabian Red Oriental, Centerfold Asiatic Lily, and Lunaria Baby Snapdragon. I will mail them to you if you dmail me your address.
Thank you so much Ella.

Looks like somebody read yoru zip code wrong. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and who wa s it sayign po wa s tryign to go good.
Hopefulyl they got it sent back to the right place last night and have ready to run to yoru house today . Not sure how far Starr is from you. You might call your po ther e and ask them to find out exactly wher e it at. They are abel to track mroe indepth on their puter systems.
AJ... Ya wa s in N. Houston yesterday morning.
if anybody els e needs me to see her e they at just holler.
Sorry abotu that Mindy and Mittsy. All the piggy buckets was so clos e to gether and stacke d so high that soem of the plastic baggie s may have slipped and I didn't notic e durign packing. I was tryign to get evrybody out and didn't go back a third tiem and re check everybody bucket. My fault.
Thanks Ella, at least I know :) It's not that far away... we'll see!
Clan.. You arrive d at yoru post offic e at 1.41 this mornign so you wil get yours today. Start doign the piggy anticipation wiggle. LOL
Mindy..... Sometiems when ya look on line you wil find so many ways to start something. I hae found it really helps to ask on here first. After all the person who sent it had to germinate it and grow it and harvest it, so I figure they knwo the best. Save s tiem googling a gazziliion sites. : )
Kl.. Maybe you must have oen of them greased piggy boxes that just don't want to be caught. I hope they correcte d it yesterday and sent it to yoru right po this morning. Crossign my finger for ya. When ya get it bette r hang on to it tight. It liabel to go sight seeign again.
Probably so heavy from all my pigging out that it was just too fat and tired to make it all the way here, had to stop in Starr for a break!
hahahahhahahaha. : )
My box came yesterday!! Was waiting for me when I got home from work. I sat and poked throught it while hubby cooked dinner.....but then I had to turn my attention to him. :-) So I am sitting with a cup of coffee and the box today just drooling over all the seeds. Ella - you really gave me a BIG piggy portion and so many new things!!
Thanks to everyone for all their generosity!!
And Terese.....Happy Birthday a couple days late. :-) Hugs!

Star, what did you say the bulbs are? I have two and I believe I am going to plant them today.

The knowledge to google. ☺
Thanks,
Charleen

I didn't get thru all of my seeds last night and have such a mess in the kitchen this morning a friend of mine lost her job yesterday and had a flat tire on the way home to boot so she came over here and we just drank her misery away lol Later her daughter came over so we had a little party last night, now to go thru the rest of my seeds lol
Ella, I made three of those plantstands from T's I just love them then I have two from Garden Supply that I got suckered into before I found T's site thanks to Carolyn and Stephanie I do remember that they were the ones that turned me onto her site years ago :) I added an extra shelf on one of them and one of these days I'll add another shelf on the other two. I don't glue mine I have always intended on taking them outside but have about 15 steps to go up and just hate trying to take them apart to take outside each year I have to pound them to make sure they are sturdy enough for all of the pots lol I had a few sides left where I was going to make another stand and never got around to it so was going to use it for a cold frame sort of but never got around to making one being leary of all of the voles and varmits I have around here!
I'm good on postage take the rest of the postage and use on whatever comes up there is always something wanting your money lol Now going into my seed box again to record and seperate for planting :) Lots of goodies in there!
Rides. Don't remembe r which oen ya got off hand. If it looks liek a brown lumpy rock it a Caldium. If they smooth lookign they are a crocus Twilight. Othe r folsk may be betetr at directions for the Crocus than me.
LeBug. Yep it was Carolyn that turne d me on to them many years ago too. I don't take mien apart to go in and out. I just grab by side s and tip in and out the door. LOL Shoot if I took mien apart I woudl nevr get back together. I got two sititgn in yard that I do have to take apart. fried and their grandson trie d to put togehte r without directions and oh my goodness. They have shelve s onyl have put togehter , joint s of wrogn type and facign wrogn way on them, btu they tried. : )
LOL I could see a mess if Tony tried to put mine together too it would be just like your friend and his grandson lol I had my son help me he did a great job but thats why I think I never got my other one put together he got bored after a while with it :) I always ask my son to come out and help me figure out which lights I need to replace because it's always easier with an extra pair of hands so many lights to go thru but he won't help me do that he says he will but I have to listen to too much whinning to do it, not sure if I will ask Tony to help me this year he isn't too handy and would probably just drive me nuts with his talking all the time while I try and get it done he talks a lot about nothing God Bless Him :) lol
Where is this link you all are talking about? I may ned to make me a stand.
I bet it is a Caladium, is it too early to plant? I may plant it today...
Thanks Star.
Here ya go rides :)
http://www.tsflowers.com/plantstand.html
Durn, I think I can do it. Thanks LeBug.
Star, I have started planting seeds you sent me today. Going to Plant those Cladiums but afraid it may be too early.
told one lady I was sorta scared to plant, don't want it to be too early and nothing I planted hasn't come up yet. But the things I chose are slooow growing. Got to keep trying. I know sooner or later something is going to sprout.
OH... that is nifty.
My box is waiting at the PO for me to pick up today! Can't wait to pilfer through it, ...and dream of spring. ((((((Ella)))))) BIG HUGS to you Ella, thank you so much for your work, your positivity, and your sense of humor.
I got a bubble envelope from mamawk today. Thank you for sending Can't wait to get fresh tomatoes. The ones from grocery store are tasteless. Will plant them soon.
Mittsy
Rides the hardest part is just getting the pvc cut just get a vice or large vice grips is what I use and put them on something sturdy so you can cut your pipe with a hack saw, I used the stairs downstairs to attach them to. I bought a pvc pipe cutter but with weak wrists I couldn't use it.
Ella just dmailed Robin but I bet she got her seeds yesterday like me :) I still haven't had time to get to the rest of mine today lol Getting ready to go outside now and try and move things around so Tony can get his car in the truck garage and I'm putting mine in the Camaro garage, I'm garage poor here, still have one more garage and I have my plant stuff in there so much that can't even get the riding lawn mower in there lol I hope to get that thing cleaned out this year!
yanno -- I think i have Robin's Email somewhere.... unless it's changed since she moved.
It just bounced.....

RRM - Caladiums do not like cold at all... Most people in colder zones but new bulbs every year instead of digging them and storing. Here if I keep them in pots I can bring them in the garage or a spare room and leave them in the dirt. When it warms up I put them outside and start watering them...

That's alright Terese I have her phone number if she doesn't get in touch I can be persistant if I want to :) But thanks :)

Can't wait to get home and look at seeds!
thanks Ella :)
uhg I hate waiting....waiting and waiting....and it doesn't help that 9 times out of 10 our mailman doesn't deliver the mail until after 6pm when the Post Office closes at 5....
I got my box today! I am going to be doing some serious research today. I am excited to find out what some of these seeds are. The fun continues....
Thank you Ella for your time and generosity and thank you everyone for all of the wonderful seeds that you packed so carefully and shared with me. I will be looking forward to growing and sharing next year.
Patti
a box of new seeds would do my extremely frayed nerves some good right now, but may push the BF over the edge with everything else that is going on...so I may just hide them under the bed and sneak peeks in to see what all there is when he's not home, now if only my mailman would bring them to me....LOL
But I will post as soon as they arrive...
Thanks for everything Ella.
and yes I was the bad piggy. I probably get the overstuffed Piggy award!...Note to self write them down while oinking dummy that way ya don't over oink again
i want to say thanks everyone for the seeds. i am about as tired as one can get right now. i have so many people here right now. insurance electricians u name it.
