Seed Swap and Chat #49 boxes enroute...

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Ella ,
They would have just went in circles till they laid down and woke up with a hangover lol.
I am shocked at people saying keep your animals away from Brug plants cause in spring when I cut them back these dogs here carry around and play tug of war.
They confuse me when I am trying to help them by this, I grabbing stick putting in burn barrel and they hoping it will fall out lol.
Think animals have great sence of what really bad for them cause see them eating grasses around yard .
Now I am always grabbing ivy and after awhile wishing I hadn't. But so far it hasn't got me .

GA, GA(Zone 7b)

I got my piggy box too!!!! :)

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Since we've lived here forever and a day... at least in this town... our mail man and PO drivers know us... and DH had tracked them both down when he knows he has a package coming. He's even caught them in lunch break and they will give him his 'prize'.

I figured some some of you southern gals would be getting yours already... I probably wont until tomorrow.

Polkton, NC(Zone 7b)

Got mine too. Squueeellll.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

lol, I was about to tell you Ella that you did NOT want to wait until we all got the boxes. Lynn and I and a few others, I am sure, are in Washington State!! Much farther for that pony express to run;

Jeanette

Orrville, OH(Zone 5b)

My box has arrived.

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

I went into Value Seeds yesterday and saw the T&M shut it down. I had a big order of annuals going at SummerHill and when I put my last seed in the cart only showed that seed lost all that I put in there that took me all day to decide! My virtual memory is getting too low so I'm wondering if that's why I lost my order, it's always something :) I'll go to that new site next chance I get to check them out from T&M, I won't order from T&M anymore they are too expensive! So many places have gone up so much for what little seed you get.

Oh Ella that is your dahlias they look healthy, how many stands do you have to do seeds on? I bought about four packs of dahlia seeds this year have no idea why I hate storing them and getting them ready to store it's always at the time of year I'm the busiest I'm always trying to get last minute plants in in the fall and we never know what kind of fall we are going to have anymore!

Ella can you take your cat grass out on a sunny day then the cats can munch on it and trim it for you lol I should do the cat grass thing never think about it :) Maybe if Wal Mart has some later I'll get some.

Ella don't throw your batteries out when they go down you can send them to me and I'll charge them up for you, you would only have to send them one way and I would pay postage on the way back those things are expensive and they are rechargeable I realize you can't charge them up there and it isn't that much to send them in a bubble envy :) More than happy to do that for you! :) It would still be cheaper on you than buying more batteries with just regular ones.

Has anyone heard from Robin/ dryad57 lately? I’m getting ready to dmail her haven’t seen her on here since before everyone sent their seeds in, her sister must really be keeping her busy lol

Oh gosh Terese guess I'd better keep my cats away from my plants! Sorry about yours I hope it comes back out. Mine are in the back bedroom with the door closed they are freezing right now and look pretty pitiful! They would have a ball with my Pony Tail plant so I try and keep them away from it, lots of long dead leaves to play with on it now lol

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Can't beat an offer like that Ella.

Well, the boxes are getting closer. Maozomom is in Ohio. Maybe Saturday????

Jeanette

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Does she need a battery charger?? I have one for "15 minute AA-AAAbattery Charger" she is welcome to it. I have another. This one is an energizer. Let me know if that is what she neds, LeBug.

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

rides, Ella can't have anything else plugged into the house so she can't use a charger I wanted to get her one when I sent everything else was just offering to recharge them for her but thanks!

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

My box came today too. I was good and finished the cleaning in the chicken house before I dived in. Oh boy, I'm going to be busy for days trying to decide what to start now.
Thanks to everyone who shared with us. I'm off to check out how to start some of these seeds never had alot of them before now.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

LeBug.. I built 5 or 6 stands from using T's garden and seeds plant stand plans. I t free on he r site. Only thign is they use a boigge r size of pcv pipe i us e a 3/4" pipe sinc e that what I ha d around when i make hoop houses, bend s easier. Also a whoel lot cheape r to make the stand using 3/4".

http://www.tsflowers.com/

Only thign I have learne d is when ya build them us e pvd glue to put them together and make sur e ya pound them in. I us e in the winter to start seed on and then in the sprign an dsumemr I mov e them outsid e and us e to put plants on.

Each stand wil hold 16 flats. I don't us e the top cuz no light s on it for inside. And when ya puttign plants on that growed learne d the hard way to make sur e put the heaviest pot s on the bottom. LOL

When ya dmail Dryad, make sure to let her knwo her box ther e or on the way if ya dont' mind.

I still waitign on mine. Need to get tomatoes and peppers sowed today , so tryignt o see how long I cna wait. Maybe I'll make til the last box in but not sure. need my fingrenails to sow seed , so if I start ibblimg on them then will get into it. hehehehe

THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!! As you get yoru boxes, those that have postage coming back dmail me with what the postage was on yoru box. The po doesn't have up todate machine s and it just give s me pric e , no zip , no are a , no nothign. I ha d told her to writ e evrybody postage on the confirmation stickers, but soem she has forgotten and other s I don't think she may have marke d right. I knwo they charge by weight and zip, btu soem just dont' seem right and sicne was her first day, want to make sur e evrythign right, so I sen dyoru correct refund back. Appreciate it. : )

I know I was a greedy pig due to the price of postage and I will forward you postage due to you Ella!!! ok trying to contain myself now.. gonna scroll up and read before opening my box... haha or try tooooo dying to peek inside...

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Me neither, Keep it for next time. Someone may need it. I
am very happy with my little box and the seeds. Already have one out to plant tomarrow.
Yummy!! Yummy! Seeds, seeds, seeds....Yum

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Oh Ella I'm so sorry but in my excitement opening the box I ripped the postage label and can't read it so you'll just have to keep anything that may be extra from me.
I'm making a list of what to start tomorrow. and how to start them. Anyone know if I can sow pansy in a pot and just set outside for the weather to take care of? Or should I wait just a little bit of rmaybe cover with a piece of row cover I have left from last year?

Trenton, MI(Zone 5b)

Wahhhhooooo!!! I got my box today! I can't believe it ... it's a miracle for my PO to deliver anything that fast!

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Ella, the extra I sent was to help with storm survivors postage, so don't worry with sending any back.

Mindy, you may just want to wintersow the pansies, that's what I'm doing with them this year. The seeds need darkness to germinate, so be sure and cover them well with potting mix and tamp the soil down well. Some prefer to use other methods to ensure darkness, but I've started them several times just covering with potting mix, and have had excellent germination. I've never wintersown them before though, and I am a bit concerned about the soil heaving around and exposing the seeds. But several folks on the wintersowing forum have successfully started them that way, so I think its worth a shot.

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

looking around in lil piggy amazement at all the seeds surrounding me.. It looks like I went HOG WILD...I bet I make it to piggy hall of shame...You guys were to kind to me..Im going to start WS tomorrow.. I have some containers ready.. Have a few more waiting to be prepared...Have a few things Im going to direct sow and then guess I'll be waiting on spring..If I find I cant use the seeds I oinked for I'll make sure I spread them back around here so someone can enjoy them...You guys are the best...Trish

Buckley, WA(Zone 7b)

My box came today!!!! This is such a great day!!!!

Honeybunch, I forgot to send your seeds. I will (try) to get them mailed tomorrow.

THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYBODY!!!!!
Perennial, love the seed bag. Thank you so much.
Lala, love the little card , such an enlightening verse.
The different seed bags are so cool. You guys are all so creative. I am taking them to our local DG seed swap at the end of this month so we can learn from all the packages.
Thank you everyone for the great info on the packages, as well. That is so time consuming.
Now I can't wait to get sowing!

New Braunfels, TX(Zone 8b)

My seeds came in today too! many thanks!

Tonya

Kannapolis, NC

WooHoo! It's Christmas again at our house! Got my seeds today and was I ever the piggy! I've got enough seeds for the whole county and some to spare. It's going to be a fun spring for sure.

I want to thank everyone who sent seeds and a HUGE thank you to Ella for coordinating all of this. Ella, you made it so much fun and kept us in stitches with your antics! Perenniallyme, that's a neat little seed bag you sent, too. How clever. Thank you ever so much.

ASAP, I plan to inventory my seeds (that may take about a week) and get them organized so I can start WSing some things that need to be sown now.

Oh, I'm so excited! I'm squealing and dancing like a happy little porker!

Vashon, WA(Zone 8a)

Yippee! the box arrived today, and I'm only half way through. So many great things! Thank you everyone for sharing, growing, collecting, and organizing.
My basement is already knee deep in potting soil, all the space under lights taken up, and the greenhouse is full! Time to test those "hardy" perennials and annuals outside.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

My gosh colchie!! All the way to Vashon!! That is wonderful. I got mine too!! Good Grief Ella, I haven't even looked at all those seeds but the ones on top don't look familiar. Like maybe those are extras??

Wow, What am I going to do with all of these seeds? I know!! The gals are trying to get me to winter sow!! Karen, Lynn, and the rest of you, here I come. Move over. Ella sent me so many seeds that I will have a ball.

Thank you so much!! I always said January and February were the gloomiest time of the year, well Ella, you made them the most fun this year.

You all have a wonderful spring and summer. Pictures! pictures! pictures!!

Jeanette

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

My seeds were waiting for m,e at the post office. Yippee!

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

re- speediness of the PO ... I honestly think they really 'try to deliver' [no pun intended] to keep our business.
with costs climbing... they need to have that customer satisfaction. thats just my opinion though...

I've gone thru my check list.. i think out of all those seeds, there were only 3 I did not get... but that's OK, because i have more than i can sow. Got a few surprises too.... you know who you are that was stuffing extras in my baggie. some things I never would have asked for... but it will be fun to germinate and watch them grow.

lots and lots of great stuff.... now i just have to get them all in alphabetical order and put away. they are in a pile on the kitchen table. DH and DS just cleared a small area so they could have dinner.

Again -- thanks to everyone for a great swap.

Beaumont, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok Tonya, how did you get yours first? They have to pass me to get to you.

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

I got my box!!!!!

Oh, I did a quick look through at everything there... Such a nice mix of seeds from all of your gardens. Thank you all!! They are all wonderful!!
I think I got the biggest bag of Single flowered Hollyhock seeds that I have ever seen, lol! Can't wait to see the colorful wall I'll make with them!:-)

Nbgard... Thanks for making another trip out to the garden ;)
Perennial... I'll be putting that bag to good use next year ;) Thank you.

Ella... You did such a wonderful job this year. And you had twice the participants too! I know I was one of those people that had a hard time making up a want list. You filled my baggie with things I actually was really wanting but forgot about, things that I had wanted to try, but forgot about, and some new things that look really great that I didn't know I wanted yet! lol! It was a great surprise :-) and a job well done! Don't bother sending back any extra postage... my postage stamp is unreadable as well ;) Thank you for doing another memorable swap again this year. It starts the year off just right!

Andrea

Mount Laurel, NJ(Zone 7a)

Happy Gardening,

Belated Happy Birthday tcs!

Sorry I haven't been around much - been in stress-land trying to design a new kitchen for an impossible space, get quotes, find and price cabinets, appliances, flooring, counters etc. for my vacant tenant apartment -to decide if it makes sense to renovate in order to attract more and better tenant possibilities in this very competitive market. After spending days and days at it, and finally getting a lot of it together (but by no means all), it's maybe a good thing that I haven't yet signed on the dotted line with a contractor, because a realtor around the corner brought 3 girls by today, just after I decided I should renovate, (only the second people to see it in 2 months), and says they love it and are interested. Now I probably have to bite my nails, so to speak, for the next couple of days to see if they come up with a check and pass credit checks, etc. Ugh!

But the 2nd highlight of the day - I got my piggie box! Thanks all of you! Wow, I thought I was somewhat moderate, but noooo. I was a true pink piggie. It took me half an hour to go through it and seperate into perennials, annuals, veggies, rudbeckias (separate because I'm not sure what's annual or perennial), and probably not hardy heres or unknown. I'll have to look up who sent me enough hollyhocks to plant 2 or 3 acres of them. Wow, those crocosmia bulbs are fabulous and plentiful- just hope I can keep them in the fridge until it's time to plant - or does anyone have any better ideas, as they're already sprouting. Star, I thought I sent you plenty to cover postage, but it looks like I owe you a few bucks, so I hope to remember to send it soon.

Meantime, I'm the proud mama of some indoor sprouts:
gentiana makinoi "Marsha", gentiana septemfida (just a few), tricyrtis puberula, balloon flower, dwarf dianthus, dwarf delphinium, and a few daylilies. Not a bad start, I think. Last year I couldn't get a single gentian or tricyrtis to sprout.

My box arrived! I'm so pigged out! It was full. I had a medical emergency yesterday and just got on the computer right now to let you know Star, but it came this evening. Thank you so much and everyone for all the nice seeds. A couple of you guys sent many extras and I really appreciate your kindness so much. Thank you all!
Edited to say--- Because I forgot to say---

Ella, I want you to keep any extra postage from mine for yourself to buy more pringles for all the hard work you did keeping things straight and the sacrifices you made for us. Don't send anything back to me. Thank you so much.

Ella I doubt if there was much postage left from what I sent, but whatever there was please keep it. Maybe with what we all had left and told you to keep you might have enough for a dinner? Or, maybe a hamburger. LOL

Thanks so much for all of your work.

Jeanette

Coffee and pringles! Hehehe

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)
