Indoor Blooms & things that get you through the winter #3

South Hamilton, MA

You can get a 'single pod' as well. Easier to carry?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, that would be easier to carry. I believe they call it a monopod.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

For good panoramas, you have to keep the camera rock steady in the up/down axis, so a tripod is best. Monopods won't really help in that case.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

That makes sense, Victor.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I was just lucky in the old file choices whe I was playing around.
Other panoramas from old files didnt work as well

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I believe this is a cutting given to me by GE in Sept. at Hank & Louis's RU.
Do you recognize it Ge? I haven't clue to the name but it's lovely and has certainly cheered me up this winter.

Nice coleus, you guys! I love them! Those would definitely keep me cheered up during the winter.

Karen

Thomaston, CT

Yes, not much blooming indoors right now, so the coleus are a bright spot.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I realize the Glory pics are confusing. The first one is of my cutting now.
The second one with Watermelon is from last summer.
Sun makes Glory yellow

I went to Lowe's today and found 2 nice bird's nest ferns for $1 each on the clearance rack. I was absolutely thrilled! They don't look too bad. The fronds are a bit crispy on the ends on some of them, cause their environment might have been too dry for them. Also they were watered in the middle of the plant, where the fronds grow out from, and that can rot them. A little TLC and they should be fine.

Beautiful.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Great pics, PG! Sure sounds like you're enjoying your visit there. I'm hoping to get to the Boston flower show at the end of this month.

Karen

South Hamilton, MA

It is shorter duration than before. Hope that they can manage as I know funds are low.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Do you mean in how many days it runs? I don't remember how many days in other years it ran. It's on for 5 days this year. I would love to go on a weekday, but the only one I have off is Monday, and the show runs Wed. through Sund.

Karen

South Hamilton, MA

it used to go for a week, costs a lot.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Karen, Good find I hope they do well for you I had one a couple of years ago but couldn't seem to keep it going in the long run.
Pen... Nice pics from NOLA I missed seeing that when we went to NO but we did see some really beautiful gardens when we were there. I think we saw the City Gardens they were beautiful and the statues very interesting. We stopped and asked a question of one of the workers and pretty much ended up with a private tour.
Well by Bougainvillea is blooming it;s head off. Forgot to sign HOLLY

Also I picked up this beautiful bromeliad from the HGHA raffle table. $3 worth of tickets got me a large Gueen's Tears, Begonia "Morocco" and this flowering Bromeliad. I'd appreciate it if anyone can ID it for me.

Sorry no ID but that IS stunning!!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

What a gorgeous bromeliad, Holly! I wouldn't know which one it is either. I had one once and killed it. I think I gave it too much water. Your bouganvilla is sure pretty. That's on my list of plants to get for my sun room. I don't know if it's warm enough in there for it, though, or light enough. There does seem to be a lot of light in there, though the windows face west, north and east. It's solid windows all the way around, from about halfway up from the floor to the ceiling.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Karen We have southern exposure and floor to ceiling windows 6ft sliding door on the east wall and then a wraparound the corner with an 8ft slider and 4ft fixed glass panel. The house is solar and most of the plants sit right there. So it is a pretty warm and light area. My Bougie usually flowers in the winter and somewhere I have this picture of it flowering with all the snow in the background. Here is a close up of the Bromeliad blooms. HOLLY

Just wanted to say the the color is much more vibrant than this pic shows.

Here is an overall shot of the area. Right now I have things spread out a bit. I have been cleaning them and re-potting them. The small table in the front has a collection of succulents.
