Indoor Blooms & things that get you through the winter #3

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

These must be the darkest days of winter as I find myself daydreaming of spring constantly!
Please post what ever helps get you through the dark days of winter, plants, puzzle's, any hobbies.
For me it's my animals, and of course my plants, they sustain me from day-to-day and week-to-week.

This Amaryllis is supposed to be 'Rembrandt Van Rijn', here's the bud.

This bud goes to what is supposed to be Amaryllis "Bogota' but I don't think so......

I'd say very unstable hybrids or mis-labeled bulbs. I am otherwise clueless...No comments from the peanut gallery please! LOL!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

A big batch of mis-labled bulbs!
Edited to say they still brighten my day mis-labled or not. ^_^

From where?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

A co-op, im only really upset about "Remb. Van R" as that is one I was looking forward to. It's also the one that cost me the most, I think.

But it's look at the flowers above, or look outside at this........

BTW--they are very pretty--just not what you ordered--I'd be contacting the vendor...

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Lovely, nevertheless.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks Phoebe & Jada!

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Celeste, did you ID them on the amaryllis thread? They look familiar to me.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

The 1st one someone said looked like 'Picotee' and it does some. The 2nd no guess on it, I looked thru PF and didn't see anything like it. ^_^

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I have nothing blooming now except for one hoya. I had started some paperwhites, but they had the nerve to bloom when I was in New Mexico. I have some more paperwhites I'll start this weekend. The three amaryllis I have going are taking their sweet time to bloom.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Looks like this one only this is a double. Unlike orchids I can't look up the parentage. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1066930/

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

There is a whole thread in the DG Amaryllis forum about mislabeled bulbs obtained through the co-op

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks for the new thread Pixie. LUV the mysterious amaryllii! Nothing happening here. Methusala stopped blooming, either pouting cuz I went away for a month or cuz I didn't come back with Mortimer (actually methinks my dear neighbour Nance overwatered her but she will rally. She's is after all Methusala!)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

last year I had a few mislabeled ones from the co-op as well

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Wow finally new thread was just going to start one as the other one was far to big. Here is an angel trumpet that is starting to grow god when will Spring be here.

The paperwhites have finished for now. My new bulbs have already started growing on their own. I had better put them in a pot soon.

Hoya has one big bloom on it. Wish it smelled good. : (

I love Hoya's, they almost don't look real! Beautiful bloom Harper.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Just gave away all my hoyas! And had one that smelled marvelous! And one like yours, Harper, that didn't smell very good. Pretty paperwhites!

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Lovely paperwhites! I'm forcing some now.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

pensacola, how big will that get?
I like paperwhites but they have to be in another room......really a strong smelling flower!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

You gave away your hoyas? Oh, my heart... which species was the one that smelled good?

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

The one with the silver spots on the leaves--it's pretty common. Gives the whole room a soft spicey aroma--not overpowering either. However my dementia prevents me from coming up with the name for the moment--it's been a stressful day....

Oh! My sister has that exact one. It's one of the carnosa species, right? I'm gonna ask her to send me a clipping of it.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Started mine from a clipping--sat there stagnantly taunting me for months, then suddenly, it vined all over the room and bloomed and bloomed! I've cut it back and shared cuttings many times--just gave it away on Thanksgiving.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I've got a Giant Crown of Thorns that i've been successful of taking cuttings and getting them to root. The Mother plant is old and no longer blooming like it used to so i've decided to start several more to keep it going. When it is healthy and mature it blooms like this.......all from the same plant, taken on the same day.

From the description, I think this is it. The green on my leaves seemed slightly darker, though.

I still have this one, but gave away my variegated Carnosa

Beautiful Celeste!

Phoebe, did yours have the red blooms like that too? It's lovely. I suspect darker leaves come from lack of direct sunlight, but I'm not sure.

South Hamilton, MA

White cyclamin has been blooming over a month.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

My beautiful pink cyclamen was eaten by the cat, so I put it up on a high shelf and it was too hot and dark up there. It dried out while I was away last week. It was soooo pretty, too.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Sorry to hear about your cyclamen.
Tons of blooms, and was in a window on the tail end of a so. west exposure-almost a northern exposure.

South Hamilton, MA

Ours is in a west window as well. It seems to like it.

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Well if it were planted in the ground about 10-15 ft but in the pot who knows maybe 7-8ft

Valatie, NY(Zone 5a)

An authentic touch of spring revealed itself in my window garden this week: Galanthus snowdrop. Anyone else forcing these? They are incredibly easy. Their real beauty lies inside the nodding, white bells.
