Indoor herb growing help

LA, CA

Recently I am intending to grow herb indoor. I read a passage online which introduces some tips about it. But I am still confused when it talks about grow lights cus it doesn't mention HM light as I heard from other herb planters that it's a must when in the early period of the growing. Here's the passage... http://www.amlooking4.com/AmLooking4/Bangalore/Interior-Decorator-Tent/K-23242.aspx

Now I have a 48x48 inch grow tent. I need some tips about what grow light I need to get. Pleas help...

full spectrum, strong, different herbs need diff lite lvls, u didn say which ones u favor, but on the packets they will say full sun, partial shade, but plants get SADD symptoms easy, n they will curl themselves up into the lite to get to it. Reptile lites are full spectrum, plant lites will say, the wattage of the lamp can help, I'm not good with links n research-short on time these days, others will add in later

You don't need any grow lights. Simple florescent shop lights will do fine, and they are MUCH cheaper. Keep the seeds covered until they germinate, then keep the lights about 2 inches above the seedlings. This should get you started, as the plants grow you can adjust their individual light requirements.
Good luck,

I agree with 1lisac, regular shop lights work just fine.
Been using them for over 10 years grown everything flowers, veggies, herbs very successfully.

I use 1 warm white and 1 cool white bulb in each fixture.

Bulbs much cheaper and uses much less power.

It's right that florescent light is just useful for most kinds of herb. But sometimes you need a MH light for the first stage growing and HPS light for flowering. It depends on the type of herb you're going to plant. I've been planting indoor for 5 years, I got a tent, MH and HPS, and some other accessories, but a florescent is the most useful. If you don't know how to choose the right kit, you may check Thelashop, it sell fine gardening light. Check it if you need to get. http://www.thelashop.com/catalog/Fluorescent-Grow-Light-orderby0-p-1-c-135.html
