We cut down some trees in early summer, and I forgot to move my epi oxy, which really looks pathetic now -- sunburned. Is there any way I can bring it back? Sure hope someone has some some ideas. We have brought it in the house for the winter, as it is going to be cold here and I do know they don't like cold weather -- or for that matter, hot sun!
Help! My Epi Got Sunburned!
Can you post a picture? There's no way to reverse the damage to the parts of the plant that got sunburned, but you might be able to trim off some of the more badly damaged parts. Any new growth that the plant puts out should be fine, so it's really just a matter of being patient and making sure you're keeping it happy with its conditions (light, water, fertilizer, temperatures, etc)
Ecrane: Will post a picture shortly. Was having some problem with camera, but as soon as that is worked out, will post a photo. I have noticed that although many of the leaves are pink (sunburned) they are not dried up. I have tried to snip off the ones that are completely gone. I really would like to save this plant, as it belonged to my grandmother. I do have some of its offspring back home in AR and they do not leave our sunroom. I was blessed with four flushes with two of the ones I have rooted and keep there.
I don't think you really need to worry much about saving it at this point--if the sun exposure was going to kill it, it would be dead already. Just give it the proper care/conditions from here on and it should be just fine. Might not look perfect for a while until you get a bunch of new growth and can trim out the sun-damaged sections, but the plant itself really isn't in any danger at this point.
Thanks Ecrane. I can live with that. When we take it back outside for the summer, I will find a shady spot in the yard, and make sure it doesn't have too much sun in the future.
