Marigold Seeds

Vicksburg, MS

Is there a right or wrong direction, vertically, to point marigold seeds when planting?

Marietta, MS(Zone 7b)

I have always just laid them flat on the soil.

I have not noticed a difference in the vertical direction of planting marigold seeds either. I just sprinkle them on the soil and lightly cover them with more soil however they happen to fall. When they germinate there is no difference.

Thanks. I was concerned over nothing!

I planted some more marigolds inside today. I used scotts potting soil and small peat pots. I filled them about 2/3 full, added a few , 4 or 5 seeds in no certain direction, and then lightly covered them with more potting soil. I put them on a heat mat at approximately 75 degrees and under a cfl. Hope they germinate!

Marigolds are normally pretty easy to grow from seed. When mine are going to seed, I pull some to save (just a little insurance) and leave many seedheads on the plants. I always end up with way more volunteer plants in the spring than I get to germinate in the house.

I have better luck germinating everything outside than inside. I agree with the marigolds being easy to sprout outside in the spring. I just scruff up the dirt a bit, sprinkle the seeds, scruffle the dirt again, pat them down & keep moist until I see sprouts. Usually I keep them moist by planting them just before it is supposed to rain, preferably for a few days or more. Much less work that way :) Only thing I don't like about gardening is having to water them.

Marigolds are tough little seeds and plants. They seem to sprout and grow as soon as the smell soil. I hope you like them.
