I have a baby Firebird just planted.Shall I put your name on it ??

Yes, please!!! :)

I have too many Senk's Cascade babies. Would you like one of those? I just separated 7 babies!!! I don't like the plant that much, but wanted to try some of Senk's cultivars.

Do we know who she is? I want to say 'Something Special'

Jim and Gail confirmed that she is NOT Ford's Something Special. Maybe Jealous Heart, though. Off to go google it!

Shanika, I think you are becoming the Queen of Streps!!! You are showing some real beauties :)

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Too purply for Something Special, but very pretty! I love Kentucky Gooseberries--been wanting to see a good pic of it--I knew it would be a pretty one.
Is anyone familiar with Elfin Way? Is it a trailer? If not, I have one suckery plant! Skip sucker patrol just once...geesh!

Thank you Connie!! I'm praying that these streps will continue to do well once the warmer temps start. I'm going to have to keep the AC on all the time!!!!

Wow, Phoebe she is gorgeous!!!!
I know what you mean about suckering. The ones you want to sucker don't very often(chimeras), but regular violets do. My club president said it's usually something culturally wrong that causes a plant to keep suckering.

I have a tendency to underwater....

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Pretty strep Shanika! I swore I was going to grow a nice strep this year.I'm trying a few in the homemade oyama pots and a few wicked.Somethings gotta work for me....Darn plants LOL.

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Something will work for you Jan!!! Just keep notes of what you tried and document what did not work, i.e. soil, watering habits, fertilizer, temps. Streps, to me, are harder than AVs. They are bit of a prima donna if you ask me! Shhh!! I don't want them to overhear me!! LOL

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

(whispering....) my streps are diva's too! Most of them croaked last fall! I lost some really nice ones :-(

I let a lot of my poor baby plants croak too Shhh! I just got too busy to take care of them right.
Shanika,
Lovely Strep.,but I don't think it's Jealous Heart.
Phoebe,
Elfin Way is adorable! I can't find any info about her, though. If she is making leaves on the stem, below the crown, you can be pretty sure it's a trailer.
Jan,
I can't wait to see your Streps. this year!

Gorgeous Lynn!!! Yep, you're right. Not Jealous Heart. Mine has purple with two yellow fangs in the center.

BTW, so far so good on the strep wicking in that "special" crunchy mix. LOL

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

Maybe I'll try it.I'm working on AVS right now.

Here is an old pic of my Something Special--RIP :-(

Awww, Phoebe, she was so pretty!!!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Thanks!--I know...I could break your heart with pics of all the stuff I've lost since mid-summer. Seems to happen mostly after repotting, but could be a # of reasons...

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

She's a beauty Phoebe!! I have a leaf down.If I get extras I will save you one if you like.

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

I really want you to be able to grow streps Phoebe! This is coming from somone who had the same thing happen to them last Spring! My streps had a marvelous winter and then once the temps got warmer, wham! They all went down hill and died. I attributed my failure to too warm temps and to peaty of a mix. I think I even wicked a few in the mix.

Have you analyzed what might have gone wrong, what kind of potting mix were you using? Also, how big of a pot size did you go up? What were your temperatures like?

Something will work for you Jan!!!

LOL.Don't count on it! I've been trying for a couple years and have a notebook full of things I tried.I'm just a strep killer.Waaa ^_^

BUT the strep Lynn sent me is still living after a near death experience.Poor plant even gave me a flower the other day!

(Lynn) Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

YAAAY!!

South, TX

I need to repot. Just not well enough yet. Thankfully my plants are being nice to me and continuing to do well.

Ok ladies ... I haven't had an AV in about a year now, so ... I just have to show you my new baby that came in the mail today!

Thanks to a Very Special DG ♥Angel, who is one of the sweetest people I've ever had the honor of knowing (even if it is only through the internet!)

My friend, you've touched my heart! This has brought much joy and really made my day!

(((( Hugs )))))

Think I'm gonna start a new thread for this discussion--there are a lot of issues here, and my sudden failures are also a mystery to me!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I'm even having some probs with some of my AV"s too--Anyone ever grow this one before? It is adorable, but the blooms are consistently tiny and sparse, although there always seem to be 1 or 2...it is in a 2" pot

Very pretty, Lin. It seems like all of the A.V.s that special DG member has sent out seem to be in full bloom too! LOL!!

(Zone 1)

LOL, I didn't keep my 75+ AV's alive ... I think I will have this beauty for a very, very, long time! ^_^

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

She's a pretty lil thing Phoebe!!

Ottawa, IL(Zone 9a)

Hi Ladies;
I must tell you that for 2 years my streps died in the summer, i was surprised as the plant room would only get to maybe 80 or 85 with the lights on, i did'ent feel it was to hot, but for 2 years mostly all my streps died, also jim's did to.i have air conditioning, but the plant room gets much warmer than the rest of the house, anyway after talking with jim & others about this, i decided to buy a portable air conditioner for this room, since then i have no problem, thanks goodness. I just did not think they were so not tolerant of the heat, so you see they really hate the heat,

Thanks GH! Here's a couple of trailers that are not croaking...yet.

Ramblin Silver-grown warm. The leaves were quite variegated a couple of months ago,and the pale pink blooms are silver-ish in cooler temps..

Anyone know what this one likes to promote more blooms?

Trailalong

Beautiful foliage on Trailalong Phoebe. I don't have much exp. with Trailers at all. In fact, I purchased a boat load of leaves from Teaz late Fall that are rooting now. It's going to be fun trying to grow them!!!!
