Back at ya, Moon.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good Morning Smiley Girl....hope it has warmed up a bit there. It only got down in the low 40's last night....but the rain is back....8)~ (pffffbt)

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Back at you Moon I feel the same way.
Of course my DH says "your always on that thing" and my oldest son called me a blogger.
What do they know?

Lynnie how did that chicken turn out?

I know you guys like to read, I just joined this paperback swap group where you list at least 10 books you are willing to trade and for every book someone wants from you you get a credit to get a book from someone else. You wrap the book in paper and mail it cost about $2.38. And when getting a book they pay to mail it to you.

they give you 2 credits just for joining.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Moon you have rain, I have Lynnie's snow. Wish she'd come and get it , tired of keeping it for her.

Oh DH got stuck in the snow...ha ha of course it was my fault he was talking to me on the cell phone...

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Oh you evil woman...how rude of you to distract him that way....ROTFLOL Book swap sounds neat. We have a bookstore here that does the same thing. You can buy new or used books, or swap books 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 depending on the original cost of the book.. We don't trade many there as we donate all our paperbacks to the prison library.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

That sounds like a good idea, JJ.

Heat wave today ~ 24°. Better than the 10° we had yesterday!

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I tried to do that here Jean at the county jail and they wouldn't take them.
If a prisoner leaves it they keep it otherwise the book has to be sent from a business..like a bookstore new..

I have never tried at the state prison as I would have to mail them to them.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I need to get moving.
Be back later with pictures maybe....lol

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Here, we box them up, make an appointment to meet the officer in charge, take him the books directly. Then he goes through them and makes sure they are "acceptable". We have to wait while he checks them for "contraband" so he can arrest us if there is any....LOL Who would be that dumb? Not this creature comfort chick, for sure....grin

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Have a sweet morning...catch up later.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

You would probably be surprised Moon what some would try....

Later
Have Good Day

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Be safe, JJ.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I will thanks.
I'm off and it stopped snowing all roads look good I checked the DOT. So should be easy driving..if not I'll call Kassy to come get me...LOL

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good move...she is a pro at rotten weather driving....grin

Okay, hope you all have a good morning...catch up later.

Hi everyone,hope you're all having a good day so far:}
Moon, that photo's amazing, did you take it?.I know you've sent tree frog photos before.
I've got to save it.
Boys are home,i'm cooking them some food
Back later

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hi Joy. No, it is one from a series sent to me in e-mail. I just loved the tenacity of that tiny frog....grin. Know you are happy to have the boys home....enjoy them. Catch up with ya later.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

If that little frog can hang on there, so can I! He is a cutie!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hi Venice. How are ya feeling? We miss you, hurry and get well. In answer to your question about Tooter, I don't know if there is a Mrs. Tooter, I have only seen Tooter. I don't know if they tend to hang together or not.

Love the picture. Thank you for the laugh. I needed it this afternoon. Am forwarding it to my son. he'll get a kick out of it.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You are too welcome Marti. Hope your son enjoys it. I was just tickled by the little guy's tenacity....grin Hope you had a good Christmas. Glad to see ya here.

Moon and Venice,hi,if Turtles are the same as Tortoises,then they aren't animals who live well in groups,the adults only seek each other out to mate.The males apparently tend to fight if kept together,as they're territorial creatures.Think Theodore would n't like a friend here,he'd be jelouse as he's Mummy's baby:}
But seriously they're solitary beasts, that's how they like it.
Venice,are you feeling any better?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Thanks Joy. I only ever remember seeing sliders and snappers and sea turtles in groups. I didn't think these guys were very social. Just can't quite picture them engaged in battle, though....it would have to be sam peckinpah style (he was the king of slo-mo film technique).

Dronfield, United Kingdom

Moon,male tortoises put their heads in their shells and literally head-but each other with the front of their shells,their heads being protected from damage.I've only seen this on a wildlife documentary,not in reality,well real,but on TV:}
Maybe Turtles are more sociable than Tortoises.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Just hanging in there.

Couldn't sleep the night before last because I took non-drowsy cough syrup. Didn't take any last night but woke up with coughing fits 3-4 times. Just got some Mucinex expectorant and cough suppressant so that should be better along with the Tylenol PM.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

They sort of ram each other like sheep or goats, then. That must truly be a sight to behold....grin

Keep hanging V. you should start to feel better soon with the antibiotics. I still have a cough, but not too bad, and sinuses are draining well thank goodness....no fever so must be on the mend. Stay warm and remember lots of fluids...hot tea with lemon and honey works well to soothe sore throats.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

They ram each other to try and turn the other over on its back. I used to watch tortoises in the desert in Southern Calif. Really nice animals (actually reptiles). And in the desert out there it is ILLEGIAL to pick one up and bring it home or kill one.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Ain't Nature grand? So much to learn and so much fascinating information out there. Thanks Marti. I'll bet that was strange and funny to watch.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, glad to hear you are doing a bit better.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Thanks Venice. I do hope you start feeling better soon too.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

You have a bad one going on there, Miss Venice. Make sure you take care of yourself. Warm socks, hot baths, rest. And chicken soup. Sales of chicken soup go up during the flu season, I heard that on the radio this morning.

Hi Moon, Joy and Marti! Hope everyone is having a good afternoon. I sent everyone out to the warehouse to count, it's that time of year! Been there, done that, paid my dues already.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good on you Smiley. Experience has its perks...grin

Dronfield, United Kingdom

Hi Marti,it must be wonderful to actually see wild tortoises. My little one was bred in England,it's illegal here to import them too,so none are removed from their natural habitat for pets.A lot of breeds of Tortoise are now endangered species,I have to have a certificate to prove mine was bred here:},he's a Herman's Tortoise, which's a Mediteranean breed, native to Southern Europe.

Dronfield, United Kingdom

Hi Smiley,hope your day's going well:},8.15 here already.Off shopping with younger son tomorrow,he needs new school uniform shoes,which have to be plain,black and therefore boreing:}

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Yes, it was great to see them. I rescued one once, when I lived in Riverside County in southern Calif. These people had brought it in from the desert as a toy for their big dog. I sneaked over a couple of nights later, fed the dog a steak and took the tortoise home with me. My plan was to return it to the desert in the spring. This was the middle of winter. I stored him in a box in the storeroom, thinking he could continue to hibernate til spring. WRONG! He woke up. I called the desert zoo in Palm Springs and explanded how I got him and asked what I should do. They said bring him to them, so the next day was my day off and I drove the 2 hours to Palm Springs , and gave them the guy. They said they would make sure he was alright, there were marks on his shell from the dog, and disease free and would return him to a safe area in the desert preserve in the spring. i hope he had a safe and long life in the preserve. There is no hunting there and you need a permit to enter so they keep track of who is there, plus they patrol on a regular shedule to pervent trespasors.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Brava, Marti. How stupid people can be....sorry folks, I have this pet rhino that needs a dog to play with till he kills it, so i just thought i would take yours.....idiots. Thank you for doing that for the tortoise.

Dronfield, United Kingdom

Marti, that's a wonderful story,he was a lucky Tortoise and what you did was fantastic.People like that make me sick,I can't even make myself imagine what that poor creature went through, the fear, the pain.the people who took him and gave him to a dog should have the same thing done to them with something larger, stronger and meciless and see how well they could protect themselves, after being taken far from home to a strange unknown place.
You're truly a Tortoises friend:},and I too wish that one a long and peaceful life,as I wish all creatures, reptiles and mamals and birds, none of them should ever feel pain.
It's now 8.45 and I'm off to do a few things before I have a sit down and relax.
Hope you all have a good evening.
Take care of yourselves
Joy

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)
