Since about Saturday [4 days now] I have found that pages loading sometimes stalls and only a blank page loads... I can hit fresh and it will then load.
I've run all sorts of scans and can't find any issues on my computer.
and this is the only site that is effected by the slow loading... It's also not all the time, but hit or miss.
Just didn't know if anyone else has noticed it, or if it is just me.
Terese
Has Daves been slow lately ?
I've noticed the same thing. I also ran scans and found nothing.
Same here, the site has been terribly slow lately. I have a new iMac and have no problems on any other sites so I know it's not the computer (the computer is less than a month old)
Mike
thanks... at least I know it's not just me.
Not particularly slow for me, but I have noticed that photos I want to look at don't completely load until I click on "refresh". Could be part of the same problem.
Same problem here ... I figured it was just my cable company!
I blamed it on the laptop and the satellite connection.....but it did the same thing when I switched to the pc
its been slow this morning for me too. and last few days.
Me, too...since the weekend...Slow to load, need to hit refresh, sometimes locks up...
We have high speed internet access through our cable company and there was a story on our local news last night that this particular cable company had problems causing extremely slow internet service since Christmas eve, but that it should be corrected now. My connection is still a lot slower than normal, as it has been for the past month. I'm still assuming my problem must be with our cable company.
Me too, slow for about 3 days now. I thought there was just a lot of chatter going on in the holidays.
I've been noticing some slowness too--most of the time things work fine, but from time to time it'll seem to really hang up for a long time when I'm loading a forum/thread. A couple times I even got a screen that said it couldn't find the DG server or something along those lines. It usually clears up within a couple minutes and goes back to normal speed though. I noticed it at my parents' house on their computer as well as here on mine (we live in different states and have different internet providers, and in both cases DG was the only site I was noticing this with)
DG is the only site I've noticed the problem with also. When loading a thread or forum I've gotten a message that says something about the server but I can't remember the exact wording. Next time it happens I will write it down and then call my cable company.
Tried it out at my MIL's yesterday and it was painfully slow...got home and logged in and had no problem for a while, then started bogging down again. We are on separate ISPs. so the problem wasn't there. We have broadband with fiber optic connection....it really should not take 30 to 45 seconds to load a thread with only 3 responses. Maybe we have all just talked way too much....grin
That msg means the server connection dropped out Lin. usually not your service provider's problem...just means your service can't find the signal for the site you are looking for.
Moon: I think that's exactly what the message says! "The server dropped the connection" or "The server can't locate the connection", or something like that. It's been happening when I'm on my laptop when I'm trying to load a thread or forum, or if I go to PF and copy a link to paste, when I go back to paste it I get that message. It's not happening this afternoon so hopefully it won't continue. My husband has been tying up our desktop machine for days with work stuff so I haven't had a chance to see if it happens using the desktop machine. Could it possibly be related to the laptop connection? I am so technically challenged!! I don't really care what's causing the problem, I just want it to always be fast and do what I want it to do, LOL. ^_^
I hear ya Lin. I have had the same problem and thought it might be the laptop, so I used the pc yesterday. I didn't get the dropped server msg on the pc, but things were just as slow...I think we have just talked the server at Dave's into submission....grin
Well, I'm a talker, sometimes don't know when to shut up, LOL so that wouldn't surprise me one bit. ^_^
Arrrgh! I just got the message again! Server dropped the connection! I knew it was going to happen because when I hit send it just sat there for what seemed like a looong time!
Let me see if it will go now!
Could someone take a screenshot next time this happens?
of the slowness? happens to me a lot. Took 2 minutes to send a reply to a post a while back.
It's zippy as all get out and then bam! could pour a coffee while waiting....
Ok Dave, don't laugh ... but, how do I take a screen shot? Do you mean copy and paste it here? The next time it happens I will try that.
Oh, it will be later tonight as we are heading out to Basketball games and won't be home until @ 10:00.

I'm talking about the error message that comes up. Either a copy/paste of the error, or a screenshot. Either will do but a screenshot is preferable.
How do I do a screen shot?
Dave, when that happens, it is the standard "can't find server" msg. That has only happened a couple times over the past week to 10 days...mostly it is a matter of the info line at the bottom saying "waiting for Dave'sGarden" and depending on the function (loading a reply, loading a msg with picture, etc) can run anywhere from near instantaneously to taking over 90+ seconds...or just sitting there saying DONE and nothing happening...sometimes it loads a msg response twice, other times the msg just slips off into cyberspace, but mostly it is just running very slowly.
The msg I loaded above took 38 seconds for response from the server to complete.

Okay, so it's timing out. I'm looking closely into this. It hasn't happened to me yet, but I have some ideas of what might be causing it.
A couple times it has taken me to a blank screen. Has the DG header at the top of the page, but just a blank page. Click on home and everything goes back to normal
themoonhowl, have you experienced slowdowns in the past couple minutes (ever since your post above)? Please continue to use the site heavily for the next couple minutes, and I'm watching the server while you do.
I will certainly try...
How's the speed for the past couple minutes?
Absolutely right back up to par. No lagtime at all.
Maybe it's because I'm watching it. :)
A watched server never stumbles....grin
LOL!! but of course!
Like when my car makes funny noises for days...and I finally get Hubby to listen to it, and it doesn't make a sound until after he gets out and goes back in the house :(
Whatever measure you took seems to have done the trick. i have been bouncing around for the past 7 or 8 minutes and it is, if anything, running at top broadband speed.
Well, I didn't do much. If this happens again, please note the time as precisely as possible that it occurred and let me know in this thread.
I certainly will. Thanks so much for being so very hands on. Grin

How do I do a screen shot?
hopefully you have a PC not a MAC, as i'm not sure it's done the same...
when you have something on your screen that you want to "capture"
hit the SHIFT key and the key up by the "F"series of keys [the very top row of keys, near the number pad] ... it says
Print Screen on the top
and SysRq on the bottom
Hit that key + Shift and that will capture what is on your screen...
then open any image program | Paint or a photo program, and click "Paste"
that will paste what is on your clipboard into a new image.
Hope that helps,
Terese
Terese, We have Mac's in our household, the only computers allowed in this house. ^_^ But, it seems the problem has been corrected ... seems much faster and no dropped connections.
Me too. I usually flip between the word puzzles quickly and it's going fast again. Thanks Dave.
