dany and joeswife, WOW!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Beautiful blooms Dany.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Gosh, Dany, that leaf looks like the Jishi I grew earlier, but then it turned pointy.. I like that reverse tube alot..
This was Josephs Unknown Blue, it had reversed tube on the package, but I never saw any.. it was so purty.. ( this was in August of 2009)

I just LUV Milky Way>

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

reliving memories is all I can Offer right now, of the blooms I had last summer..my I. Indica is climbing all over the place, so is the stictocardia, and the little plants I tested for germination are vining nicely..

Liz's Blue/Lavs I. Purps were first to show last spring.. I put some of these seeds in the I. Purp Mix.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Oh! I love that milky way too! I have never grown any, but when I first saw it in real life at my DG friends Bonnies house I fell in love with them..Lucky you to have grown them!

I fell in love with this I. Plantesis, but lost the one seed pod I got from it.. it is dormant right now in the downstairs garden.

That last one is nicest blending of rose and white I have ever seen!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

It is what they call a CAUDEX plant. really weird. I have noticed that all the "native" or species plants have the same kind of colours, tho. The lav moon vine has these colours as does the messina creeper. Wish Colin would hop on and show some of his caudex plants..
one more picture and I gotta go make some toffee
All the seed packages I have left to send out are going to be sent out after Christmas, so if any one reading this has a package promised from me, please know it will come!

I am still cleaning off pods from vines here..

Deb, your platensis is a gorgeous m glory. Love Beckys
Blue Jishi x 10-10
Nice dark color on the Milky Way DMgardener

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Yes, I agree with Jackie... the dark specs at the end of the petals really stand out on DM'S milky way .. an outstanding marking!

(Daniel) Mount Orab, OH(Zone 6b)

The 3 plants I grew this year all had dark stripes (what would they exactly be called?), however, one from last year sowed itself in the wilderness ajoining several of my gardens(sorry this is such a bad pic):

Thumbnail by DMgardener
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

David, I have no clue what the markings are called.. but I am sure someone here will tell us.. I like your "wild" growouts..

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Sometimes, we call them bars or rays.

(Daniel) Mount Orab, OH(Zone 6b)

Rays seem the most correct! Since they are radianting from the center anyway...

Just looked around on Wiki to find "correct" term and "found" a new I. tricolor var, 'Rainbow Flash', any info?

szarvas, Hungary

I think it does not exist.
But the powder obtained with tricolor seeds gives this effect - Rainbow Flash - if you smoke or drink it.

LOL Dany.

Here is a pic I just found of Milky Way in front of 1 garden:

How cool is that? I had those giant rose cleomes and morning glorys together too.. the messina creeper and the setosa were the two around my cleomes.. I like the way your milky way contrasts... very striking!

(Daniel) Mount Orab, OH(Zone 6b)

Thanks! If everything self-sows, the same will be next year.

"I think it does not exist. But the powder obtained with tricolor seeds gives this effect - Rainbow Flash - if you smoke or drink it."

Hahahahahahahahahahaha! Too darn funny! I love your sense of humor, Dany! You crack me up!

Somehow I seemed to miss this entire thread ... sheesh!

Love all the Milky Way blooms!

DM - Your MW looks like a bush in the photo! How beautiful!! Your giant rose cleomes are gorgeous! I've had just a little success growing cleomes here. They never got very big, but they sure produced a lot of seeds! LOL! Unfortunately, I didn't get a single volunteer from all those seeds the following year. Not sure what that was...

Debra - Your blooms farther above in this thread are stunning! WOW! And so are Dany's blooms!

My I. purpurea are still hanging in there. Not much else though is blooming except the small oink and yellow zinnias and the Black and Blue Salvia! Of course, the lack of blooms probably has to do with the nasty soil everything else is growing in. My plants are not happy right now. Soil here in Florida is horrible. Even with amending. Too much sand and nematodes! Grrrrr ... I so envy those of you with rich garden soil. :-)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Becky those blue jishis came from you and the seeds from them are in the mg swap...

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Oh boy! You know everyone is gonna love growing them! Thanks for sharing them with the participants in the swap. They are really pretty blooms!

(Daniel) Mount Orab, OH(Zone 6b)

becky, thanks! I received the trellis as a present earlier this year, along with several others that made all my MGs shout WOW!!

I really liked the Rose Cleomes this year. They (+ White and Violet Queens) produced tons of seeds, each individual flower devolps into a seedpod, which usually contains 25 seeds. Only 1 out of 50 flowers do not make seeds ( I actually took the time to count, lol) They are the elusive color in the Queen Series, often confused with Pink or Cherry;)

(Daniel) Mount Orab, OH(Zone 6b)

Here's a cute one:

Nice photos! I especially like this one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7394407

Apopka, FL(Zone 10a)

This one is growing wild on the neighbor's fence.
What is the ID for this?

Apopka, FL(Zone 10a)

these blooms made a trip home in my pocket.

Apopka, FL(Zone 10a)

these leaves are nearly heart shaped
except many have a notch.

Thumbnail by ApopkaJohn
(Daniel) Mount Orab, OH(Zone 6b)

So unusual! I don't know what they are though...

Becky, thanks!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Those blooms resemble I. indica. Nice whatever they are! :-)

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

I agree, pretty blooms.

(Daniel) Mount Orab, OH(Zone 6b)

I went to the I. indica pf, http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/51653/
and looked at most of the pix,
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/261354/
and some looked a bit like yours, John. But most had a 3-lobed leaf, none that I saw had a mostly heart-shaped leaf. And since it's growing wild in Florida (oh, how I wish I was there!) I am pretty sure that beckygardener is right on the Ipomoea indica.

~Daniel

P.S. I just noticed that the main pic in the second hyperlink is, first of all, by Becky, and shows a heart shaped leaf near the middle-left. So I. indica is likely?

P.P.S I just had to share this> http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1058999/
I don't know how many of you have had the this much success with a MG that it actually turned into a failure, LOL!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Daniel - Your MG "shrubs" (LOL!) looked gorgeous! Sorry to hear that the rain ruined all the seeds! Luckily, all the big box stores sell that species/cultivar of MG! :-)

I do think the photo above might be I. indica because mine has similiar leaves as well as the 3-lobed leaves. The blooms look similiar to mine, but so many MGs look similiar, I can't be absolutely sure from a photo. So mine is just a guess. :-)
