I'm trying to catch up with everything since I got home Sat. Trina I know how you feel with the plants turning to mush. I got home, it was 23 degrees outside and the garage door was wide open. All my brugs, begonias, EE's, plummies, palms were out there. They are now mush. 42 plants gone. EE and canna might survive because of them being in the dirt but the rest is history. I could have killed when I walked in the door. Instead I just went to the bathroom and cried.

I didn't need that after the Friday night scare I had. I was still at my son's house (house sitting) and went out to the laundry room and I was messing with something on the floor that the cats were playing with and when I stood up there was a man looking straight in the window at me. Called the cops and went into the middle of the house and curled up into a ball to hide. They never found him and I couldn't describe him, he had on a ski mask. Police figured out about how tall he was by checking out how high the window was and kept checking up and down the street the rest of the night. My son got home about an hour later and called the guy next door and told him what happened. He went out patroling the block with his pit bull. That made me feel safer. NOT!!! I couldn't wait to get home. AHHHH the boondocks, I don't want to ever leave again.

Anyway I'm about to send my seeds off, hopefully this afternoon after all my baking is done. But before I do, I wanted to let Trina know that there are some Japanese Red Maple tree seeds in there and if she wants I'll tag them for her.

Delray Beach, FL(Zone 10b)

I am closing out my list tonight, so last minute oinkers hurry to the trough!

I am hurrying back outside to finish a few things up between freezes and storms. It is a balmy 51 today, but will rain and then freeze later. This has been the oddest year for weather.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

WOW.. I'll trade my 17° for your 51 and storms.

Robin if you tell us the brugs names, we might be able to help you with more or get starts of more. I'm so sorry and do have a few EEs.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Perenniallyme.. Your box arrive d today. : )

Robyn.... Glad ya hoem safe even though cryign with ya abotu the plants. It bad this year..r eal bad with folks breakign into folks houses. I knwo ya was sscared, but if ya wouldnt have been ther e the end result would have been so much worse.

If yoru brugs wer e in soil ya may have lost the tops , but I had some that got froze last year when we went down to 8-9F and it took quit e a long while but with lot s of heat they starte d puttign back up from the bottom of the pot when I thought they wa s long gonners.

Same thign for the EE's mine are in oen gallon pot s and get froz e all winter long but as long as keep watere d onc ein awhiel have had them all come back.

Yes, my brugs and ee are in ground outside and always come back each year so keep them and see when it warms up if they are ok, but if not, we'll be glad to help you.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I have some new starts, I don't have any listed because
I don't know which ones for real sure, but she is sure welcome to
some.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

OK.. i just have to ask.... what's an EE?
sorry for my ignorance... but i'm not into Tropicals.

Star... you building an ark yet?

Elephant ears . I have green ones and some black ones. Tropicals don't usually live outside in my yard during freezing winter weather so these are hardy to zone 7.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

gotcha... thanks. Bulbs you must dig up....

No I don't dig them up, they grow here outside year round. Die back during the freezes and put out again in spring.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I had always thought that in colder zones, they needed to be dug... If not, maybe i can give them a try...

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Exactly, you got to dig them up when you live in cold climates. Mines were in pots in the garage. Thing is I watered all my plants out there before I left, so the freezing temps also froze most of the pots as well as the tops. My brugs are mush all the way down to the roots. I have a few that I think might make it. I cut them back already and it is warming up in the garage. The 2 I'm sure are going to make it are my best noids that never fail to bloom, even when temps are 35 outside and they are sitting in the cold north wind.

I did lose Flirtation, Candita(?), Mtn. Magic, Tequilla Sunrise, New Orleans Lady, Naughty Nick, Melon Kisses, Orange Sherbert brugs. My yellow and white butterfly gingers, Raspberry and a black and blue salvia, El Capalito and a dragons Breath Hibiscus, and a few plummies.

It kills me all the money I spent on some of them, others were given to me and it makes you feel like you let that dg member down somehow by not taking better care of the great plants they have sent.

I don't dig mine, never have. I leave my brugs out and they die back and put out in spring. I just compost them and mulch for the winter. I have a giant white Bird of Paradise that is about 4 foot tall with babies I composted and mulched as well. They get too big to bring in for winter. When you are putting out plants to leave all year, do it in spring after last frosts so the roots will have time to grow deep before winter, so until spring I keep babies in pots in the greenhouse and then plant out later in late spring , then compost good in fall and mulch in winter. Then in late spring pull a little coverings off so it can see the sun earlier and wait for sproutings to show. They are a little later starting this way but if you are not in a hurry, it works better than a broke back from lifting heavy pots and dragging to the greenhouse.

Robin, I have the white butterfly gingers and orange and peach all and they were given to me by dear friends so I can help you get those started back. I have a few brugs, will have to check on the names but will be happy to help on what I have. We can do it anytime after January. I have plenty.

Pittsburg, MO(Zone 6b)

Thank you so much, with our weather here it is best to do plants around the end of March or even better April. I will be glad to pay you.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Robyn, so sorry about all of that! Don't lose hope on the Black and Blue Salvia, they have tubers that may still be alive under the soil. Mine has lived outside in the ground for 4 years now, so they're pretty cold hardy. In spring, if my lucky streak with B&B returning keeps up, I'll gladly send you a division.

You just remind us when it's time for you to start them and you will see there are plenty of nice people who will help you get started out again, so don't worry and just have a Merry Christmas.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Okay . . . I am lost . . . I want to post my seeds - finally! But I can't find the thread! Can someone help me? I need to post tonight and ship probably by Thursday if they are to arrive on time!

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Robyn, how scary!!!

Star, thanks for letting me know my box arrived. When I thought about how much work went into it, was kind of afraid to give it to the post office. I only put delivery confirmation because I thought they might treat it better and be less likely to lose it.

Everyone, I'd like some input. Ran this by Lea, and I think she thinks what I'm doing is kind of nutty. You know certain seeds say start 65-70 degrees for 2-4 weeks, then (cold) for 4-6-8 or whatever weeks, then (spring weather) for germination. Well, last year some of these (like gentians, aconitums, etc) didn't germinate for me with just wintersowing, so I planted them in their wintersow containers, but put them on a heat pad under lights, thinking I'll move them outside after the 2-4 weeks of warm. Does this make sense?............But what's happened with my gentiana makinoi is that it sprouted after 1 week, so I guess it's not going outside, and I hope it makes it through the winter under lights. Actually I was thrilled to see it sprout, as I was expecting nothing, and now I know that even though it was tinier seed than lots of gentians, that it's viable. Hooray! Hope it doesn't get damping off or something, but we'll see. Do any of you do the start it warm, then put outside, for any of your seeds?

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

I don't... but only because that's my usual winter lol! It will be in the 50's sometime's in January and then in the teens in Febuary.

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

BTW... I'm still packing up...

Ella... did you figure out if you needed an adapter? Didn't know if I should toss it in the box or not :-)

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Seeds are really quit frightening. You plant them. they come up. they topple over. Maybe with all these seeds my chances will be better. I hope. Damp-off is my problem. Got any expert advice? I probably should have put this else where, shouldn't I??
But I still love Plants, so i will keep trying.

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

Everyone - I posted my seeds at the end of the seed trading thread. You might find something you like!

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Seandor, what color is your lantana? If it's the red/orange/yellow one, I'm oinking..

(Zone 7a)

Seandor, I have a humongous favor to ask of you. Since I can not access the piggy lists thread that Star just linked to, could you also put a link to just your post of have/wishes in this one - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1055851/ . Evidently for reasons I don't understand, I can access links to individual posts of piggies' lists, but not the thread that contains them.

Thanks for humoring me and my recalcitrant 'pooter.
