Countdown to spring! One garden photo per day

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Now that the brutal weather has set in, we are all looking forward to next year's garden season. As a way to make it go faster, I want to count down the days by viewing some of our best photos. Let's stick to one per day - for a few reasons. First - it won't get out of hand. Second - during the season when we post many photos, I think we don't always give the individual ones their just due.

So one really nice photo per day. Try to ID it if possible. I'll start with a crocus, since it is one of the first real signs of spring.

98 more days!

Great idea for a thread Victor. OMG 98 days! That seems so long to wait. I hope to see one of these little guys maybe a bit sooner.

This not one of my 'Greatest Shots', I just like the feeling, it's one of my true personal favorites. (Despite composition & 'photo techno' rules and stuff.) I like the 'free, airy & relaxed' feeling I get when I look at it, always have from the day I took it.

Looking forward to this if I can get it sent properly.

Nice crocus! Such talented photographers here.

This picture I took last year, not photo cred, but to capture my hard work after bringing this 20+ year old azalea back from the brink. I think it liked all that manure :-) It is not even mine. It belongs to the blue house next door but kinda sits on the property line.

98 days is doable. Great pictures everyone.

Lucy, love that iris, is it one of your intros? In case anyone here doesn't know---you probably all do---- our Lucy and her husband are famous hybridizers in the bearded iris world.

South Hamilton, MA

Certainly not famous, but it keeps us busy. Yes, that is John's plant. 'Quogue' a miniature dwarf. He thought it looked foggy so named it after a Long Island town which is the same. Pronounced Qwog.

Have to do better with the computer. Finally got it posted & then tried the iris forum & it told me that it couldn't find the file. Come ON machine!!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

They sometimes use my garden in OH as a test garden.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Sorry to disagree there Lucy. I sure knew your name before I ever met you on DG.

I ove Quogue!

I have a few myself, jumper2, and I'm not even related, LOL.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Wonderful pics everyone. Helps with the cold morning. This is a pass along old fashioned peony, sorry no name. They smell lovely and are such a welcome sight every June.

Thanks, Joyce.

Terrific shot of spring shade blooms JoAnn.
Polly that sib. iris is gorgeous with the catnip or anything else I suspect.
Victor I agree with Jadajoy that looks like a china flower sculpture. Great stuff all.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Nice snowdrop, the lack of detail on the petals makes the shot uncomplicated, it focuses the eye towards the center, like Jada said it has a nice porcelain effect! Cool!

South Hamilton, MA

Last yr it seemed like eons until the snowdrops appeared. The great amount os snow held them up.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Mine were new,I hope they appear ontime this year.
Of course that nwill be 4 months from now.

We have 1 big white one.
Clay soil is impossible to grow them.
Yours is a beauty

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Snow drops and peonies. Hard to beat that on a grey day in Dec. Nice.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Beautiful Peonies Luvs, I'm still trying to get a flower from mine, planted Fall of '08, may have to move them and see if a 'change of address' works! lol!
