DAILY PICS VOL. 265

Yes, furry birds are a nuisance. LOL

Nice pics everyone!

Man, oh man, bunches of great shots . . . .

Burd_Fotos - Mr Cooper looks regale up there on that limb. I've never had a hawk, so let me ask, are they timid or bold. I mean, will they let you get close?

claudcat - Your White-crown Sparrow that's looking for food is a pretty bird. Oh, and I never re-size. Never been a problem, though. At least, I don't think so.

burn_2007 - You're right, there's nothing wrong with that Goldfinch. Pretty

thebestmissy - I gotta tell you, that is a nice triplet of birds your captured - Yellow House Finch, Goldfinch, Red House Finch - wow. I know the red HF is a male, I'm thinking the yellow one is, too.

It's pouring down here, and I mean POURING. I look outside, expecting to see no birds, and man am I surprised. Activity is high - House Sparrows were everywhere - getting soaked. I guess the drenching rain doesn't both them.

It was foggy here early, but I snapped a few pics anyway. Had to add some fill light and increase contrast. Now the sun is out, but the birds have returned to the creek.

A couple of dove shots. One so you can see the entire flock and one closer up. I have 30+ Mourning doves every morning at daylight. Joined by 20 or so Juncos.

The Cardinals just started coming back the past couple of days. Posted a pic of the female yesterday. Her mate was on the steps this a.m.

Peek-a-boo! This titmouse wanted to fish around for a sunflower seed, but had seen me through the study window. He would hide his head behind the feeder-- like if I can't see you, you can't see me.:) Looks like some duct tape is in order on those back 3 holes.

One more of a chickadee and I have to get up and do something productive-- directive from the boss.

Here is another pic from the Fl trip. This shot gives a good silhouette. We were biking down a sandy road in a nature preserve a rather marshy area. It was a good size bird about 2ft.

Here it is again you can see the coloring. In this pic the grass in the background makes the beak look curved and longer than it really is. You can see the beak in the silhouette picture much better. Can some one ID it for me?

Great photos everyone!!

I took advantage of the rain falling to capture some of the birds in the berries on our Toyon trees. Yes, CC, these trees (think they're also called Christmas Berry trees) are native to our area and are all over our neighborhood.

The House Finches just love eating the berries.

An Oak Titmouse. This guy was more interested in the action at the seed feeder and was watching for an available spot to land.

The wet red clay dirt on the property next to us made a pretty pink background for this photo of the Oak Titmouse.

I'd love to have some berries like that, duc. My house and yard are relatively new. Although I've put out some holly, nandinas and honeysuckle, this is their first winter and the berries are sparse. I've also put out Live Oak trees in front and back near the feeders. They keep their leaves in the winter and the birds feel secure in them when a shadow appears overhead.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

What beautiful pics duc, Love those berries.
Reddirtretiree, I have holly and junipers which the birds love. I just added a nandina this year and would like to get more of them. Sure wish I could grow Live Oaks in our area they are one of my favorite trees.
Resin, I think either the immature Black or Yellow-crowned Night Heron. They don't look much different in my book. You can see in the silhouette pic the beak is shorter and broader with no curve. Thanks Holly

Hack, the Cooper's sat in the tree, until I completely came out of the patio, he seen me in the patio no doubt, but he knew there were some H. Sparrow's hiding in the leaves in front of the patio and was just waiting for one to make a mistake and come out, but they held tight for about 10 minutes. If I wouldn't have intervened he would have had lunch. Go eat a Starling or something, I have not seen a Dove for a few months now and that's their favorite.

Nice ones Holly and red!

Duc, I'm so jealous of your Christmas Berry tree's (love that name). Lovely pics!

I'm jealous of all of your photos. Everyone takes the most awesome photos.

Duc, I thought those must be native to your area. I wish we had them here.

Gosh the pics on the last thread were awesome and are continuing on this one! I have been busy and not had time to check in here.

I was shopping friday and while out and about I saw a couple of Kestrels and a shrike and at least 6 Red-tailed hawks!! I walked out of Penny's and one came flying right at me and over my head only about 6-8 ft. above me....SOOOO COOL!

I was eating lunch with some teachers this week and when I looked out the window I saw a bald eagle couple. They live nearby on the Connecticut River. The school is located uphill from the river. I assume this is mating season. Don't they nest early in the year?

Nanny, that hawk flying over you must have really been exciting. Yesterday we were feeding a neighbor's cat and as we were leaving, a Bald Eagle landed in a tree at the back of the house. Just another time that I should have had a camera with me. Your little wp and nuthatch sure were cute!!
Pelle, your swan is just beautiful.
Holly, great photos of the Brown Pelicans. I didn't know they nested in the trees like the cormorants. Very interesting.

This Red shafted Northern Flicker was enjoying the start of rain showers.

The California Quail are plentiful in our neighborhood although I have no idea how they survive with all the neighbor cats.
