How come every time I water my pothos 3-4 of the older leaves turn yellow and drop off -- this leaves me with a very stemy plant that is unattractive? I usually wait to water when the soil is dry and the leaves are a bit turned -- should I keep the soil moist at all times--this summer I put them outside and they did great but house is very dry.
Watering a Pothos(Devil's Ivy)
then yeah maybe you shouldn't let them dry out, I desperately need to trim ALL of mine back, I'm just being lazy about it! LOL
I am lazy and let my Pothos soil get too dry sometimes but I live in a very humid area of the country so there is always moisture in the air. The yellowing and dropping foliage can be from the soil holding too much water, or not enough. If the problem is caused by extremely dry air maybe you can increase the humidity in the room by filling some containers with pebbles and water. Or, you could try misting on occasion. Sometimes too much misting can cause fungal problems, but if your plants soil isn't staying too wet and your house is dry, I think a mist every so often might help.
yes someone with more knowledge than me! LOL
Are you also having alot of growth at the tips? Maybe you can cut a few tips back to encourage it to back branch and fill out. That will help to fix the stemmy look.
Trina, I know I don't have more knowledge than you! Gal, you are one great grower with that Tropical Jungle you have in your house!
yeah I got popsickle sticks in my plants with thier names because I have no clue what they are! I can grow it just don't ask me what it's called!
be aware that popsicle sticks rot, break over and you don't know which pot it was in. Guess how I know.
Well I must admit, I used to know the names of all my plants, scientific/botanical as well as the common name ... alas, I am now old and can't remember my own name half the time! ^_^
You still know it, Lin. It's just harder to find it. That's what i keep telling myself.
LOL yeah my chupacabra keeps stealing the sticks out of the pots she can reach!
It is normal for the plant to produce new leaves and drop old ones.
It you want the plant to hold older leaves longer, it may require giving it more fertilizer. A monthly application of a liquid fertilizer would probably be sufficient to maintain as much foliage as possible.
