I have a couple seedlings outside. They are Hollyhock, Lunaria annua, and Columbines. It is snowing today. Can I let them outside? Or should I put them in the garage or something? Are they supposed to shed leaves?
It's snowing today; help please!
They should be fine, if you have a spot in the yard where you can nestle them down in some leaves or mulch till spring they will overwinter fine outside.
Thank you so much for the quick answer, ladygardener!! I have a shed. Can I put them inside? But there's no light in there. Or is it still better to put them outside? But I will put some kind of mulch, thanks for the advice!
I would be more concered about them drying out if you put them in a spot where they would get no rain or snow melt. Light is not that important at this time of the year, the plants will remain in a dormant state until spring. You just don't want the roots to dry out. So put them outside and forget about them till spring. This is what I have been doing for years.
Okay, thanks so much, ladygardener!
