Brugmansia Blooming in a vase

Batesville, AR

Thanks. Lonny (DH) has many. All small. This is our first year with them. I myself have 2 that I can call mine. No greenhouse so right now we are short on inside space. So for now I am getting and raising seeds. (Thank you RRM.) But come spring.....Brugs are addictive. LOL.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I'm still here waiting on lessons.
But everything looks great, doesn't it?
We got to try it, Girlfriends.
Learning is a wonderful experience.

we'll have to change that in the spring, girls you'll have sooo many, you'll have to get that GH for next winter, or better than that a hoophouse, that's a lot less expensive, I know a few people that have built theirs for under $100.00
& they work great

I have seen other people post that you should not spray with the recipe until you get roots but I start as soon as I put them in the ground or water. They say you should not push foliage until you have roots but I think the plant knows what it is doing and will not grow any more foliage then the roots can handle.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Some of the Peaches and Cream, Elizabeth sent me has leaves on them. When I see leaves, I think roots but I am not going to pull on them to see, I'll wait til spring. I'm ready too.

Good to hear about the under 100 dollars. DH plans on trying to build a GH next fall. Brugs are beautiful. I love growing them.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

I find the if you have a very long cutting, that the plant can not push as much as it need all the way to the top and sometimes the top will dye off. That is if it has not yet started growing roots yet. By making smaller cutting the amount of energy sent up only need to support a small plant. Smaller cutting just works better that the long ones, for me.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Charleen you should know if you have roots long before Spring. I can see roots coming out the bottom of the six-packs in 4 to 5 weeks.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

You can build a hoop-house for under $100. and if you put the plastic on the inside and out you can heat is for much less.

Hamilton, OH

Ken
I think all of us know, that you know what you're doing & we're soo glad too hear what you do, it seems too work, by using what you tell us we will all have lots to share next spring, I just took clippings of one of my sanguinea's that will tell me if I am good at rooting plants, they are suppose to be hard to get to root, I appreciate your knowledge as I am sure everyone here does
Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

You can also collect bagged leaves and stack them around the house to help hold in the heat. If the leaves are wet when they are bagged, then they will start to break down and that will help to add a little more heat. Then in the Spring you will have good compost to put around you Brugs.

Batesville, AR

How many differrent sanguinea's are there?
Kim

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Yes, I am so glad ken has told us how he does his cuttings and shared pics. I know, I am going to try the shorter cuttings. I still have a few to pot up.
Dee

That sounds like a good idea, Ken.

Ken
it's funny you mention that, I have gathered 30 bags of leaves & put them up against a north side of my kitchen just for the purpose, for insultation, since my kitchen needs to be insulated, I call it a cubby hole, I have a privacy fence there
& it's good for nothing except store the leaves from the next door neighbor's tree, & it does compost up nicely
Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

I planted a Sanguinea that a friend gave me and at the end of the growing season It was the same size.

Kim
there are a lot, 1 that I have is a cross that has buds on it, just as soon as it blooms I will post Pic's I also have the red one, it is making a recovery, it got frost tipped in my unheated GH, the yellow one is Georgeous, I am hoping next year to have that one also
Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a friend in MI named Big Al and he almost always has more blooms on his Brugs and sooner than us. His Spring comes later but when it does come the northern states have more hours of sunlight and much cooler temps, perfect Brug growing conditions.

Hamilton, OH

Ken
mine grew better at the end of the year, it is now almost 4ft tall, it hasn't bloomed yet, but the cross I have is about too bloom
Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

If you girls ever have any questions, just D-mail me. I get busy and it may take a day or two but I will try and help.

Hamilton, OH

Ken
I know Al, from BGI, that guy is something else, the jokes he post is sooo funny, isn't that something, that he gets his too bloom quicker than ours, he has too deal with all that snow
Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Vulcanicola is another one that does good up north. I also had a Vulcanicola X Sanguinea cross but it did not make it. It got to 108 in the shade that year and lots of the Brugs suffered.

Batesville, AR

Sanguinea's are my favorits. Never seen a yellow one, only the red one in pictures.
Kim

Hamilton, OH

Ken
I would love to have a vulcancola, I have to wait till it goes on sale

He came down to the Texas roundup in 2006 and we had a blast. I have also seen him in Georgia and Florida. I love those wooden shoes of his. I have a picture of his legs and they look like Fred Flinstones. He is fun.

Hamilton, OH

Kim
the one I have about too bloom is RosaLillaXwildfire, when it blooms there will be Pic's, if the 2 clippings make it, I will def. keep you in mind, next spring, of the red sang.
Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Ken
I would love too see that, the flintstones movie was on last night, the one with John Goodman, I bet you had a blast
Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Kem, are you in north or south AR? If you are in the north it would be better for growing Brugs but it is cold.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

I really do miss lots of my Brug friends but there are a few people I do not miss. There is a good reason that Dave's does not allow us to even mention BGI I am only doing it here because I am only talking about it's people and I will not mention it again.

Batesville, AR

Oh that should be a pritty bloom. If I can remember, after this long winter, I'll try to remind you. lol. I get distracted easy and forget offen.
Kim

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Elizabeth, I was over at BGI looking at the contest pics and there is a pic of RosaLillaXwildfire. WOW, it is a beauty.

Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Kim, if you could get build a hoophouse just to use in very early Spring to get a jump start on the growing season and then in the Fall to stretch it as much as you can you could grow some beautiful plants.
