At least I think it is a Syngonium- I have had it nearly 2 years, and it is happy except that it seems to have a problem opening up the leaves. Sometime I try to *help* but it usually ends with a tearing of the leaf! It gets plenty of light, no insects, I mist often and feed regularly- any ideas? No brown tips or damage of any kind.
Need help with my Syngonium-
definetly a syngonium...Berry Allusion I think....and they sometimes do that with the leaves, just give them time and they will open, I have several different ones, yours is a very nice plant!
oh yeah and Like a philo if you give it support it will climb....it's a very versatile plant, if you make the transition slowly you can get them to grow in water, like with a beta fish in the vase, they do very well in aquariums too
Yes, your plant is Syngonium podophyllum, possibly the cultivar 'Neon Pink':
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/74566/ and a lovely one at that ... I think it looks great! Why do you try to help open the leaves? It looks like normal growth of new leaves emerging to me, sometimes they just take their sweet time in opening fully.
Good eye Trina! That plant may very well be the cultivar 'Berry Allusion' It sure looks like the one pictured here: http://www.killerplants.com/plant-of-the-week/20031117.asp
My ID of it possibly being 'Neon Pink' was just a wild guess! There are many cultivars on the market nowadays with pink and variations of pink coloration in the foliage. There's one on this page called 'Neon Tetra': http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://toptropicals.com/pics/garden/m1/list/Syngonium_podophyllum6937.jpg&imgrefurl=http://toptropicals.com/catalog/uid/SYNGONIUM_PODOPHYLLUM.htm&usg=__MNVdnzLO4GnaJxdJbAgAaTiIPa8=&h=600&w=450&sz=75&hl=en&start=8&um=1&tbnid=eIXgb7OmxgrsRM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=101&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dimages%2Bof%2Bsyngonium%2Bpodophyllum%2Bberry%2Ballusion%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26um%3D1
I'd love to have a Rain Forest garden like this beautiful mixture: http://www.exoticrainforest.com/Syngonium%20Species%20pc.html
Oh I know what he's done there is fabulous...I have both neon pink and Berry Allusion that's why I recognized it...I love these things because they really are very forgiving houseplants!
Wow! Thanks for all the replies! I post regularly in several of the veggie furums, but this is my first here- plantlady, I don't know why! I just figured it needed some help! LOL- Since you all say it is a nice looking plant, I will leave it alone- I definitely don't want to have it climb- I like just drooping better-
oh it will droop for ya as it spreads out...I have a green one and a goldon pothos arguing for the same space right now....they are definately neat!
you could always just send you 'Pests' to me....LOL
This past summer I ripped all of the Syngonium out of that area so my husband could replace the old screen.
In this photo you can see where I had already ripped some of it off the screen and the rain gutter. You can see the holes in the screen from the little tendrils attaching to it. The Syngonium will climb the rain gutters to the roof if we let it. It has even grown through the screen and attached to the wood deck!
Trina: If this grows back next spring I will save you some!
I like that your picture shows both leaf forms. I wondered why my syngonium was so different from ones in the store, but the leaves are split like yours. I love how interesting aroids are!
cool! I don't know why I like these so much, maybe because they forgive me if I miss watering them once or twice or overwater them...LOL
I was thinking about turning our pool into a place for pond plants since the kids really don't use it anymore, but I think the hubby would like that...LOL
Well, they have really pretty leaves, and so many to choose from.
yeppers they sure do.
I was a bad bad bad girl and went and looked at plants and seeds on ebay. good thing the hubby is never home when the mail comes....LOL
I quit for the year. The mailman left a box on the porch and I was home. Could've knocked. Anyway, I found it soon after but it could have broken my heart.
I TRY to stick with seeds this time of year but I just got one heck of a deal and hubby gave me permission to do so...60 different orchids for $124...I'm doing a happy dance all over myself! and I got bat flower seeds in black, white, green, brown, and maroon....wooohooo!
With Syngoniums I believe the leaves change as the plant matures, they get larger and more lobed.
Trina, I've seen a couple of pictures and I do believe you already have a Tropical Jungle inside your home! Wow, 60 Orchids?! You are going to truly have a paradise when those are in bloom! I have a few Orchids hanging in the Schefflera tree in the backyard. Two are in full bloom and one has fat buds ready to pop!
I wish I could have mine outside...maybe someday and that price sure beats the $10 each at wal-mart and Lowe's I have 2 ficus trees that are big enough for them and I have 2 hanging off my oleander in the bedroom, I keep teasing that if the pink jasmine in the bedroom was strong enough I'd hang them from that too! LOL
My jungle will be reduced a bit come spring, some plants I have several of I'm either gonna have a plant sale like a yard sell or offer them up in the plant trading forum...thanks to Lazlo and his generosity with his seeds for envies I have 3 differnet kinds of pomegranates, but I definately don't need as many trees as he sent seeds for...he's such a generous person!
Nice pics, Lin. I'd read that Syngonium leaves become lobed as they mature but had never actually seen a picture of them. Thanks.
I have a whitish green one that shows only tri-lobed leaves and it is still small. Maybe it is like a bonsai arrowhead, lol.
hey Lin how ya doin'? Don't pay any attention to the big truck in your drive loading all your plants up.....LOL
