I have had my peace lilly for two years. I tried to put it outdoors last summer, but it kept wilting and looking pityful. I've kept it in the house and was doing fine until recently, now the leaves are turning black. What do I do?
Peace Lillies
Can you show a photo?
I had this problem once. I put it back to a smaller pot and then drenched with distilled water. Let it dry out some and drenched it again (with no fertilizer) Cut all the black leaves off. After that I put it in a darker corner of the house and watched the water schedule more closely. Make sure it isn't root rot. It slowly regained it's green and is a healthy plant again. I think I planted it in a too big of a pot and watered it a little too much. Sometimes it can go through a "shock" of change of light and watering. Hope this helps some.
I have one that I repotted into too large of a pot and the same thing happened with the leaves turning black -and it was some old leaves and some young ones, which I thought was odd. I need to re-pot again and go back down to a smaller size.. I hope it recovers ok.
I too almost killed one by repotting up too large..The leaves were turning black. same as your description. I repotted it again, into a smaller pot and it is looking alot better now.
you guys aren't even trying and yours are dying....me I'm trying to kill them and they just keep getting bigger! I only have them because of funerals not intentional purchases...now how funny is that....dump a flat soda in one and see what happens...or a flat beer....but I wouldn't suggest either in the summer unless it's OUTSIDE at the time
Trina, Stop bragging!!! ; )
What does flat soda or beer do?
I'm not sure...I was kinda hoping it would kill it....It's in a pot waaaaay too large for it, and no drainage....stupid thing won't die...I even accidently left it outside the night we had our first freeze... had a few blackend leaves but it survived...it's taunting me I swear it is....I think it's getting out of it's pot at night and killing off the plants I do like....LOL
How much light does it get? It looks like too much sun or too much fertilizer (the tips look brown).
sorojack it too looks like to me its getting to much sun, that would explain yellowing leaves. Also lack of water for long periods will cause leaves to die even if you start watering again. I slow down on the water in winter but check mine at least once every week and half and just keep it moist enough to survive. In summer I lay the water to it at least once a week.
