Indoor Blooms & things that get you through the winter.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice, Polly. Never tried tropicals.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

with your hot tub on the porch Victor.. I would get some!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I agree! Please let me know if anyone hears about another co-op.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Thank you. I had one overwinter last year, so I thought I'd try it with these. All my plans when I bought them were to just let them go at the end of the year. Until I saw them. We have a fireplace, and a pellet stove, so it's pretty dry most places in the house to be conducive to tropicals.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ok who wants to dmail me spider plant advice.. Michele dropped one off here on thanksgiving.. it looks half dead.. she hopes I can fix it

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Oh, believe me, here will never be another co-op like that one. You must have heard about it. It was Dupont and Agristarts combined. All was not well.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I was not part of that coop but yes heard it got ugly.
Boojum is this the one you have?

That's pretty. How many do you have Pixie? A friend has one that's close to 10 years old, and over 4 feet. I'd be in big trouble.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Not the same.

Trenton, MI(Zone 5b)

polly, pixie and boo, your hibiscus are to die for!
Polly, you said you brought yours inside, so I take it they aren't cold hardy. Darn! Hope they make it through the winter with your fireplance and stove.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Mine is a houseplant and is about 3 years old.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

beautiful hybiscus's everyone.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Took a photo of this one when I was at Logee's last spring--it was huge! But then...it was at Logee's! LOL! Hard to tell if it was nature or nurture. Most of the resident plants I took pics of did not have visible name tags. Only the plants for sale had easy to find name tags

Nice Phoebe!! It looks huge and it also looks like one of the 'Cajun' series hibiscus.
I like your hibiscus better Boojum!! lol
I have 3 indoor ones in all, i'd have more if I had the room. The bright yellow up above is called 'Sunny Wind' the other 2 are noids.
This one and 'Sunny Wind' were bought last spring by DH.

Just beautiful I might look into 1 or 2.
My wintering over space is limited.

I did manage to wack my EE's and get the aroids cleaned and stored. BUT - there was one with a tiny shoot sticking out and I had to stick it in dirt. I dont think its a colosca (sp) but its growing in the kitchen.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I love the colors! So vivid and intense, combined with soft pastels--beautiful!
There is a Cajun series of AV's also! LOL! This is Cajun Heritage.

The hibiscuses will eventually grow to be large like a ficus.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

I like very simple forms in all flowers. Must be from my Asian incarnation!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

This is a great page for Northern growers with Tropical Hibiscus.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Spiderplant? Just snip off the dead leaves and give it a drink - unless it's already been overwatered. It needs some sun, but not a whole lot.

If it's older or rootbound, it could probably benefit from repotting and some fresh soil.

It should revive. I've always found them to be very hardy.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I agree, extremely hardy. My cats addicted to them. :(

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Great links Celeste--I bookmarked the instructional one...just in case....:-O
LOL!
That red one is beautiful! I like the pale pink one at Logee's also--I notice they are mostly out of stock.
And I want to meet the person who named one "Pond Scum"!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

LOL I know, what a name! I really like 'Marylin Monroe' and 'Mary Poppin's' on this page....well for starters anyways! LOL

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

All I want for Christmas is "Exploding Love" LOLOL!

But then...I think I'm just "Chasing Rainbows".

Pretty blooms, so exotic. Lots of good info too. The names on some are very, well different but original. I like 'Irish Eyes'.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks for the advice DS... I will see if I can get it out of the pot.. and see how it looks bad news is I don't have a good window... only a north one.. would it be better under my lights?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I had a couple of them in a north window for ten years. With partial shade from a tree outside that window. They even made babies once in a while. I think it will be ok. The Plant Files page says that it requires light shade, so I don't know what would happen if you put it under lights. Probably wouldn't kill it, I'm guessing. Unless you gave it back to her and she didn't have lights.

I'm pretty sure that if you give it a little attention - and then mostly ignore it - it will bounce right back. Or if you do happen to kill it, I noticed that one of my spider plants (non-variegated; I like them better than the variegated) is trying to make a baby. Anyone ever mailed one of these things? I bet it can be done.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Yupper babies can be mailed. I wrapped them in a moist paper towel. My spiders spend the winter in a shady window cuz that's all I got and they do fine.

I'm droooooooling over the hibiscii.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Mee too! Help!!!!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I see lots more I would like. Love the ones you have Pixie and Boojum. And the leaves on that AV are so neat.

Here's where my hibiscus came from. All were from the Cajun series.
