Tropical Garden # 57
RJ, that blue ginger is very pretty. I got a dmail from a DGardener selling them. I just might have to buy one. I'll have to wait and see total cost plus shipping.
eclecticuno, yes i got them both from rees gardens. i have been there many times they are very close to my job. i get the sales dates in the mail. the angioptrus she said to keep in a pot because it is from se asia and doesn't like our florida soil.
this is an orchid i got from them awhile ago it hasn't flowered yet
Happy Birthday Hetty!!!!
Happy Birthday to youuuuuu.. Hetty.. have fun today!
Happy Birthday Hetty.
Candela, hard to tell what your orchid is without a flower, but it does look very much like a Dendrobium speciosum.

Rita, Jealous of your Lowe's finds. No, not PP, leaves are still too "wide" and too long to be PP. But it is lovely and it may be hardier. Of course, you take excellent care of your babies, so not an issue.
Joeswife what a difference a day makes. It is wet and cold today and the weatherman is threatening snow on friday night.
I spent most of the day in the hoop house, trimming and repotting. I am afraid that if I hang one more hanging basket, the structure might collapse on me. lol
What did you do in your basement garden today? I bet it smells heavenly with that citrus bloom.
Slim pickings around here for blooms today, this little Barleria variegata had one bloom.
RachelLF, that is a very good picture of your cc, white is the next color I will try to find. It is hard to tell the color after they bloom, usually at Lowe's they are not tagged.
While lurking, I noticed that everyone else was referring to the cc that I thought was gold as a yellow. I did not want you looking for a gold when they are supposed to be yellow. (I might have to get new glasses)
vossner, thanks, I was at Lowes at the right time. The shelf was empty in a few minutes. Right now I am thrilled with the last two noid Crotons. I keep them in the hoop house, some winters a few will lose all their leaves.
I love your purple lantana bed. I have a few of them, but not as full and beautiful as yours. What do you have growing on the wall behind it?
spotted Cast Iron plant
Interesting to see that some of the lantana flower clusters have turned white. This also happens with my yellow lantana. Seems that the flowers bleach with age.
Seems that our rains are beginning to set in now (finally). Had a big storm last night about dusk, then another at dawn this morning. Gardens seem to respond well to rain water. I suspect it's the high levels of oxygen in the water.
Rita, I did see "what I call a gold color as well" blooming Christmas cactus along with a peachy colored one while shopping yesterday but those where not marked down yet;-) There were only three of the white blooming one's and they were in smaller container's and cheaper so I grabbed one. Time will tell if it continue's to bloom white. I would be more than happy to send you a piece of this new one that I have if you would like.
Variegated Spathiphyllum.
I almost went to Lowes, then I changed my mind. I told my Dh I can't go in there without spending too much money on Garden Supplies... I did add a 4 bulb 48 inch shop light and 8 timers to my christmas wish list for the children and Dh to get me for Christmas, along with a gift certificate to lowes, top tropicals and a christmas cactus. LOL They think I am weird.
I love that purple lantana, mine is trailing lavender and it stays all winter in the downstairs garden. all the cuttings I stuck in soil have tiny leaves now. My red is blooming away down there..
You all keep warm, and keep taking those
pictures. We are getting rain ....and quite a
lot. supposed to be 4 " and the way it is coming down
I would not doubt it at all.
Nice pictures.

yes, we are too and my yard has alot of puddles.... hate this rain... really!
Randy, all the grown up talk about the value of money and fighting the muggers who want to take what is so hard to earn got me thinking. I think other factors, besides economic recession, account for the so called lack of interest.
Could it be that many of us are taking time to let plants grow/develop before we make more impromptu acquisitions?
Could it be that as we truly learn what works/grows well in our gardens, there is less need to buy replacements?
Could it be that those who are embracing integrated pest management are doing more of the "live & let live" and hence not spending as much in expensive in chemicals?
No snow here, but I'm all wrapped up in my snuggy. Giving serious thought to bringing my plumies in, about 1 mo earlier than usual.
Yes, I absolutely agree. I really just wanted to blame the muggers for everything!
But it is a variety of things...getting older, slowing down, focusing on priorities and the reasons you've listed!
My green house is still empty! I will be tossing some stuff in there tonight, but they will come back out the minute it warms back up..
Those bananas don't really have that "Tropical Garden" look about them now! Will they survive underground through that?

Tropicbreeze, it is good that you are finally getting that much needed rain. It has been raining here for a couple of days and my rain barrels are full with the good stuff.
RachelLF, good find on the string of bananas. My Lowes did not have any of those or I would have snatched them up as well. Great plants!!
I might take you up on your offer, if I do not find any when they make the big cc mark-down.
Joeswife, you are so good at getting those little sticks to root for you. Those are very pretty morning glories, I am hoping that I got a few seeds of those in my box.
You should go ahead and ask for everything that you want for Christmas, on the off chance that you get them. I have been getting gift cirtificates to Lowes and Calloways for as long as I can remember.
Texasbigleaves, it is good to see you posting again. I hope that by now you will have that pot of EE all nice and warm in the GH.
Colin waited until the last minute to leave for school, hoping that it might get cancelled, he wanted to try his new snowboard. It snowed here for maybe one hour this morning.
Rj, I will have to get my two grown kids to read your blog. I am always telling them that if they can't pay cash for something, they can save for it. I have learned from experience, and only use credit cards when I travel.
Hi LiliMerci
vossner, stay nice and snuggly warm, this bad weather will pass soon (I hope). We are expecting our first freeze tonight.
Devil's backbone, I have a small one. That is a very pretty one.
I love Lowe's they have some beautiful plants. We got a lot of
rain yesterday about 4" but sure hope don't get any snow, if we do not much.
We do have some beautiful big fluffy snowflakes when it does snow. Just
don't want a lot!
Good morning. I've made us a new thread. Go here:
