Hi everyone~
Has anyone ever used strawberries as a ground cover? I have an area on the side of my driveway that has arborvitaes (three to the left and three to the right of the bed), the middle section consists of 2 inkberry bushes with a variegated dogwood bush between them and rose of sharon behind the dogwood and inkberry bushes. The area is pretty self-sufficient and I want to keep it that way because I have so many other flowers and veggies to weed and care for. But I was looking at my strawberries today and I love the red foliage and I like the idea of a useful ground cover. I already have pachysandras, phlox and thyme as ground covers in my yard and am just looking for something different. There is mulch there now but by the spring it has all rain down the hill. Thanks for your help.
Strawberries as a groundcover
Reabeags I think strawberries is a great idea for a ground cover if you can grow them in your zone. If using for a ground cover then the ideal spot would be where grass can't take them over mulch will help.I had some planted in the yard and had to mow them down because of summer grass that kept growing up in them. Give them their own space.
