HELP....winter plant care

Milton, DE

Hibiscus (first one) -- Do I cut it back now? If so, how short? Must I cover it over the winter?

Star Rose -- Do I cut it back now? If so, how short?

Thank you in advance.

Couple of questions--do you know what zone you're in? And what sort of hibiscus is it? If it's a hardy one then you may not need to do anything to it, but if it's a tropical it'll have to come inside, covering it won't be enough.

I live in NJ, not too far from you. ecrane3 is right, you need to know what type of Hibiscus it is. If it is a hardy one, it doesn't matter if you cut it now or in spring. I have done both at times and have had no problems. This year I cut it back already, to about 2-3 inches just because I put my gardend to bed early this year. Last year, the warm weather lasted a long time and then it became cold quickly so I had alot of work to do this spring. If it is the tender one with the smaller flowers and shiny leaves, then it has to come in the house and soon. Just watch for white fly.
