Got evrybodys requests and will update soon a s I can. Will be on in eraly mornigns adn late evening s for a few days. Finally ha d ot break down and go to store today and darn if when I finally did son called and I misse d it and they only gettign few minute s wher e he at for the moment. Fudge. Hoping he wil get chanc e to try again today or tommorrow.

Ther e lot s of soldiers that don't have anybody or receiv e anything. Ther e lot s of them over there. I waitign on Po to open to get three boxes off to a young soldier that ha s neve r recived anythign sinc ehe been there. None of our miltiary should be forgotten liek that. If your able and have the time, they appreciate anythign little thing.

On the Hydrangea. Ther e seed s are veyr tiny. The best way to colelct is cut the sed heads off over paper bags and then just let sit for a coupel of days and start shaking. I usually us e a gallon babby a s I have foudn it easie r to se the seed s then. I just leave the baggy open and shake and the seed s wil fall to the bottom of bag like ground black pepper dust.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Star where can I get a list of soliders who aren't receivng anything?

Ansonfan I am oinking for your Sunflower Double Shine and your horehound please

Trenton, MI(Zone 5b)

Herbspirit, If you get those hydrangea seeds, I'm OINKING for them right now! I think they are on my want list. If not, then they should be!

Ansonfan, I've been looking to get a few shrubs/trees going next year, so I would like to try the Beautyberry.

Sharon, you are one hungry piggy, already thinking about next years meals!! lol
But you are right, I'm sure we will be sharing some of those seeds next year that we are buying now.

Star, we have a Girl Scout Mom at work, and each year their troop offers the option to buy Girl Scout Cookies to send to the troops. The troop pays for the postage. Because of this option, her daughter ends up selling the highest number of boxes in the lab. :o)
And we have several daughters selling them.
We also have one woman who corresponds with several soldiers who have no one. She writes them one letter a month, plus cards for the birthday/holidays.

Camden, AR(Zone 8a)

How does she find out which soldiers do not have someone to correspond with them? I would be happy for our family to 'adopt' a soldier or two but have no idea how to "find" them.......

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

Hi Guys,

Been a busy week here. I have several requests that I haven't responded to, and a few that I did respond to that still haven't made it to my "promised to:" list. I kind of think that everyone's request can be granted, but I will go through and organize, and respond personally tonight.

(and catch up on the reading too!)

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Port Norris, NJ(Zone 7b)

George,
Oinking for Horehound and Spearmint.

Trenton, MI(Zone 5b)

gen, she has been doing this for years now and I believe she got the military names from her church. I have no idea how the church found them.

Polkton, NC(Zone 7b)

Got you Cris.
I'm going to go ahead and also add the seeds of Rhus glabra (Smooth Sumac) to my list. This Sumac is not poisonous at all (the poisonous one has white berries while this one has red). This one is also the only plant that is native to all 48 contiguous states and was used by many Native American tribes as an herb for everything from a refreshing citrus drink to medicine:
http://www.kstrom.net/isk/food/rhususes.html
It is a beautiful small tree whose leaves turn a brillant scarlet in the fall and produces red berries in drupes that hang on into the winter. I don't know a lot about cleaning the seeds, so I will just dry them and put them in paper envelopes for anyone who wants them.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

ansonfan sent dmail. sorry for confusion. oh gosh. only want one pack of each

GA, GA(Zone 7b)

ansonfan, sent you a dmail a few minutes ago. I'm hoping I can still oink for some Horehound and Verbascum ~ Southern Charm please. Thanks!

Ugg, my dsl went out sometime in the wee hours of Friday morning. The tech just came out and fixed it. Yeah! It was only down for a day and a half but boy did I miss it and kept thinking "I need to look up so and so on the internet" but would then remember that it was down. It's funny how internet has become second nature, just like continuing to flip on the light switch when you know the electricity is out. The worse part was dealing with the so called tech support for an hour on the phone being transferred to various agents who knew nothing, went through the same scripted list of questions, and in one case were rude. I finally hung up and called back and immediately got someone who spoke clearly, knew his stuff, and was helpful. He said that he was a US based agent and I had been connected with the foreign office before. He said I had the right to request a US based agent next time I called. After that experience, I definitely will!

GA, GA(Zone 7b)

Star,
Were you looking for Salvia elegans (Pineapple Sage) -or- Ruellia elegans 'Ragin' Cajun'?

Polkton, NC(Zone 7b)

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

Attention K-Mart shoppers:

I just updated my list with all the seeds I've promised to everyone (phew.) I've tried to stay on top of things, but it's been a crazy few weeks so please double check me!

Which brings me to my next point. I plan to send my seeds off to Star next weekend, as finals start the week after and I'll have absolutely no time for anything else. So please give my list a last browse sometime this week. There are still a lot of Blue Light Specials that I'm sure would look great in your garden next year.

Me thinks I'd better take one last browse through every one else's lists too. LOL.

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Hey, all you piggies. I've made one more run through the seed lists and oinked for more seeds. I've also started getting my seeds bagged and tagged so they're ready to go on Dec. 1.

Two things I want to mention:

1. My Salvia x superba Queen Blue which I ordered bulk from Swallotail Seeds hasn't arrived yet. I've sent a followup message to them. If it does not arrive before I have to send my seeds to Ella for distribution, I'll personally send them to everyone who oinked for them once they get here.

2. If any of my seeds don't germinate, please let me know. A few of my seeds are a first-time harvest for me and I may have either not harvested properly or too early or too late, but I would like to know if any fail for you. So squeal real loud if this happens. I'll do my best to make it up to you.

Lastly, before things get too crazy for everyone, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my fat little piggy heart for all the seeds and a huge oinky thank you to Ella for coordinating this swap. I cannot imagine the effort it has taken. We love you, Piggy Ella!! Suieeee!

Browns Mills, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oink! Oink! ** Also holding my coffee cup up in a toast to Ella** :-)

GA, GA(Zone 7b)

Ok...looks like ya'll are having way too much fun and I'm sad I didn't get in on the oinking.

Peggy

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

Thank you Ella... Is mighty wonderful that you give of yourself to make us lil piggy so fat for the winter...Thanks to all who put up seeds to share... Trish

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Peggy, you'll have to join us next year!

Hi all. Wanted to tell you I was just at novoselenterprises.com ordering seed-starting flats and they have a 20% off everything til the end of the year, in addition to good prices to start with, so if ya need any of that kind of stuff, check em out. Also free shipping with orders over $75. My order wasn't, but some of you heavy oinkers might need that much stuff.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Does anyone use those Peat Pellets? they look pretty nifty... i have "flats" trays... and the stuff i used to use, i'm all out of and do not plan to replace. [the kit originally came with a rectangular peat 'sheet' that you broke into squares... but it had a hole for the seed... used those for 2 yrs, my success last year was not very good.]

and i also bought some 8" high domes last year... so i do plan to use the flats again on my heat mat.

OH... i have one more packet of Early Sunrise Coreopsis if anyone wanted it.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I don't like those peat pelet thingys cause it seems like the seed does great at first and then suddenly dies, but that might just be me! LOL

Jamaica Plain, MA(Zone 6a)

Not me, tcs. Last year I bought a bunch of I think 36 cell deep flats and trays and some domes, but I think the 36es were larger and deeper than necessary for a lot of stuff, and I'm thinking that maybe so much unused mix that stayed wet too long was the reason I had so much algae or whatever growing on the top of my seed mix, so I bought some 60 and 72 cell not as deep flats to try them out (also, of course, to accomodate even more seeds this year than last.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

OK.... two strikes on the peat pods....

those of you who do seeds indoors... what do you use? like i said, i have 2 flats.. i think they are the 10 x 21 and they are not flat, but have like water wells.

also... i'm going thru some seeds i got in trade, and got a few that we not requested.... one is "White Lilium"
- looke dit up and it's an Oriental Lily... but the seeds look sorta like a Milkweed, just not as big. is that what a lily seed looks like?? I've collected Day Lily seeds and they are more Morning Glory like.

Terese

Trenton, MI(Zone 5b)

I always find the peat pellets deeply discounted after seed starting season. I'm not a huge fan of them, but pick them up each year for big seed plants ... hyacinth been, Morning Glory. I put one seed in each pellet. If it doesn't germinate with the rest of its siblings, I reuse it with another group. This works pretty well. I put them all squashed together on to a bottom tray. Once the roots are coming out the bottom and if its not time to put them outside yet, then I just plant them up into their own pots.

I don't always find seed starting soil discounted, but the peat pellets end up being 75% off.

I found a bunch of bottom trays for sale one year for $.99 each. Bought all I will need for a long time.

I ask all my friends and co-workers to give me any square pots they happen to get. I'm pretty set on those too, but they make them so cheap now, I'll be going through them faster than before.

Kelly, looks like you spent a little more than me on the co-op. lol

I'm adding my Praise to Ella also. What a great job, and I'm always surprised at the seeds she is able to offer.
sharon
