Happy Swapping!
CLOSED: '09 Fall Frenzy Swap #8
glad you did that I would have gotten everything all twisted around! LOL
Well, hopefully the links all work! Sorry about the big copyright on the thumbnail... forgot to switch that off on my preferences before posting (it's usually much smaller, but that image must be low resolution the way I saved it).
by now I think the veterans know what it is and us newbies got it down too...LOL I got a bunch of houseplants I traded for all finally potted up today and some seeds for tropicals, my kids decided to see how many pots (not plants good thing) I had they counted 652.....it doesn't look like that many though or at least not to me...hehehe
I've got a great picture in my head of your living room Trina LOL!
Gen and Gemini.... I overwinter the Asarina right in my dining room. Last year the vines stayed green and it even grew and bloomed inside. I just kept it in a SE window. Real easy
Imazi.... I have some NOID Jap MG on my list. There's a picture on there, or the last thread.
andrea
mygypsyrose i sent dmail. oinking for them pleaseee
Trina, I love all your brightly colored little square pots! I can't imagine watering all those little guys, though... more trays might help.. I hit up thrift stores and garage sales for plates & dishes that I can press into service as saucers (I'd rather pay $2 for a pretty glass cake plate than $5 for a sturdy plastic saucer!)... and sometimes I can find trays at places like the dollar store, although lately they've taken to offering ones with handles... yah, that's fine, but the cut-out for the handle is positioned in such a way that the tray won't hold more than 1/8 inch of water! LOL
ooh, if I can overwinter one, I think I might try asarina again... I had the same problem of not getting blooms until just before frost. I could tuck a plant or two in with another climber, like my jasmine... :-) I think I still have a couple of seeds, although they might be getting "elderly."
trust me when it comes to the watering the house is divided into to different days, pretty much each room gets its own day of the week where I water look over check seedlings and cuttings and all plant related things in that room for the day make note of ones that need more water/less water sun all that, it helps that each rooms plans are kinda 'zoned' together
Well at least ya won't have to worry abotu an oxygen shortage Trina. : ) Ya shoudl be able to stay all nice and healthy.
Critter... Surprised yoru not gettingblooms soon enough. Generally they start flowering in 12- 18 weeks. Maybe starting them sooner would do it for ya.
trina, now that is a lot of plants and pots, pretty colorful too! I'm like critter, I go to garage sales now and then, and one year I got the perfect tray at a dollar store. I think they were for wine and crackers cause they had a vineyard design on them.
I used to have a housefull of cliva, which by the way, never bloomed for me. I had 20 plants that I had started from seed anywhere from 5 to 7 years ago. I finally gave all but 2 away.
So now I have plenty of space to try your beautiful purple Asarina mygypsyrose if you have any left. lol
Neil... i had some MG seed pods that got nipped this year.
It was my first year with Blue Mist, i think it was called... got it from Summerhill Co-Op last year... never even saw a bloom [i was not pleased] -- found one lonely seed pod... and i dont think the seeds made it.
George... I think I saw some goodies on your list... i'll get back to you around Saturday.
BUT -- I know I could use some more Lemon Mint. I only have a few seeds remaining, and i need more. ;-)
Terese
i have a clivia and it blooms repeatedly buts i bought it full grown. clivias can take up to 10 yeasrs to bloom from seed. thats why i bought mine full grown. i also had to seprate it to get it too bloom. didnt like to be crowded.
okay i reached the limit of 100 or so. so guess i will just be looking from now on. waaaaa but anyway.
still under the weather been fightning this crude for awhile now. my gram said she had the same thing last year and she took like 3 months to get over it.
Critter... I can toss some fresh Asarina seeds your way if you'd like them :-)
trinawitch... LOVE the picture. It actually surpassed my vision! lol. Very funny! That's got to be one good motivator when he has no place to sit any more, lol!
Andrea, I'm so glad to hear Asarina grows easily indoors-thanks! I love the way Geraniums(Pelargoniums) throw blooms from time to time during winter, it'll be great to have some other winter bloom therapy!
Good Mornin oinkers. I have added to my list under BUSHES/SHRUBS
White Rose of Sharon
Mock Orange "Innocence"
Sweet Shrub
Whirling Butterflies/Gaura/White
George, that Mock orange is gorgeous in Plantfiles pics! Is it fragrant? I have a huge, old one that is very showy, but I don't detect fragrance. I wonder if the variegation would be present in the offspring of 'Innocence'- have you tried them from seed?
That brings up a question. I've been wondering, how often is plant files wrong about a plant being sterile? It seems like it says that often on things I'm looking up information on. Have you all run across instances where it is wrong?
Critter,
A local DG'er gave me some 7+ yr old hollyhock seed.
The "elderly" are to the back on the left.
LOL, good point that you don't know what will germinate until you try!
Mygypsyrose, if you have an extra little pinch of your purple asarina, I'd love to give it a try!
I do have a recollection of poor germination on my asarina a couple of years ago, and I don't think there's much left in those packets... does anybody else have a bad habit of saving a packet with just a couple of leftover seeds, "just in case" you might need them? LOL No wonder my seed storage is so stuffed!
I wouldn't throw a seed away for anything. I even have a cup that I put seeds in when they fall on the floor and I can't id them anymore. I don't mind trading split retail packs (thought I had better correct that haha) and I know a few others around that really enjoy splitting retail packs for trades. It really gives traders a chance to try a lot of new stuff.
Gemini that Mock Orange smells as good as it looks. On the other hand this is the first year I have collected the seeds so I have no idea what they will do, but I'm going to start a few myself and see what they will make. It is a beautiful bush already. I started with one about 12" and this is its second year and about 30" so thats not too bad.

This is my old Mock Orange that had been growing here for who knows how long before we moved in. It had a bunch of multiflora rose growing in it and we cut the whole thing down the first year to get the rose out and a bunch of dead wood that was in the center. It has rebounded nicely, but no fragrance like I've encountered on double flowering forms.
very beautiful.
Hahahhaha That me. I got a bunch of mystery seed s her e where I collected and just knew I would remember but by the time I checke d my pockets, always checkign pockets cuz they get stufed, I done forgot what they was, but knew it had tobe somethign nice or pretty for me to have colellecteded it.
I love surprises anyways. : )
Critte. I do that. I don't sow all the seed at once , cuz foudn out alogn time ago that maybe ya got soilto wet and molded some seed out . Maybe the weatehr was bad and they didn't coem up or critters ot or any numebr of things cna happen, so I always hor d back soem seed just to be on safe side.
Cuz ther e nothign worse than finally gettign a see dya want and losing it and finding out ther e no more in the see d envie. Then it tear time. ; )
LOL! Critter! I'm so glad that I'm not the only one to do that!!! I have different seeds on the bottom of my seed box that have fallen out from somewhere and I can't toss them either. Gosh, I guess reading this, you'd think I'd have a problem or something...lol
I'll mark you down for some Asarina also ;)
Andrea
now see maybe I should start a house plant swap. that I'd be awesome at...LOL Yeah well it's not working so I burried his coffe pot under plants last night! Guess who went to work growling!
Be careful Trina, I've heard of divorces over smaller things than getting between a man and his coffee pot, LOL!
Lol!
Alright... I think I have everyone's name next to the seeds that they ordered. Please check and LMK if anything is missing... I might go through my box and put up more seeds and don't want to get it all messed up :-) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=7256079
I also just put up for grabs 2 packets of seeds of Tobacco flower. It was given to me as Perfume Lime but seems to me as if it had crossed. This flower is green with a rose tinted edge and has rose flushed on the backside. If you look at the picture closely, you can see the edges. I just didn't realize it was different until I just tried to look it up, or else I would have shot the backside as well.
My 'Perfume Lime' had that rose coloring on the reverse too, really attractive I think :-) Is that not the norm for Perfume Lime? This was my first year with them, so I wouldn't know.
Don't think it's the norm, I had some to turn out perfect with the light lime color others were like the big flower with a red back then others were very small with red inside and lime on the outside just goes to show you some seeds just don't come true :) The seeds of that one plant that came true was the ones I'm offering with the kew blue seeds mixed in lol The rest of the seeds I got from them I pitched them in my moon garden for next year :) They will look great in there if they turn out right :)

Neal... That goes for a woman and her coffee pot too. LOL
a word of advice to stampeding piggies...
Remember when you had oinked your last and somebody posted a single packet of something you really wanted but couldn't ask for because you were already over the limit?
Spend those extra oinks wisely!
:-)
bluespiral, thanks for having Lady bells on your seed list. I had a plant pop up this year next to the woods. It wasn't in a garden, I just thought it was one of the weeds from the woods and then it goes and blooms beautifully. I fully enjoyed it since it was so unexpected. I knew it was something I'd heard of before ... something with bells in the name, but not a campanula. You put my mind at rest. ahhhhh
sharon
toofew, gotcha! I was cleaning seeds like crazy and wondered why I had so many of one of them then low and behold I discovered I was mixing the two together right at the end, too late lol Ya can't tell which are which they both look the same in the mix! snort snort!
I'm going to add some seeds of hebe speciosa. This one came from Galway, Ireland, and has magenta flowers and purply red new leaves about 3-4 feet tall and wide.
