yes I have a favorite, it was HHG, but that darn thing for 2 yrs didn't bloom, it just kept getting bigger, it has a double orange bloom, if you can get it too keep it's buds on
Elizabeth

Why do the blooms fall off?
charleen

Hamilton, OH

Charlene
I have no idea, I think it needs to live in a GH, that's one of the ones I donated it was over 6ft tall, I know it will bloom for them, that's the only one I have ever had do that
Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

I had HHG for three years and it never bloomed so I got read of it. I like Brugs but only if they bloom. Naugthey Nick is one that must get large before it blooms.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Plants are weird> aren't they?
They do what they want and we are left wondering what
We did wrong.
Charleen

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

You man the wholes pant has to grow tall and thick before it can carry the blooms ?
That is strange too.
Charleen

Hamilton, OH

Hi Kenboy
I am like you I don't have time for picky plants

Charlene
plants do just that

Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Kenboy
my Naughty Nick got big before it bloomed, but it did so I still have it
Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Oh, i love the double orange. What is wrong with it??
Charlen

Hamilton, OH

That is soooo pretty, I think it's only the orange one's that do that, I had a desiree, it died as a young plant, I didn't try it again, do you think they would do better in the shade Ken?

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

It takes Texas sun. Some Brugs just like to get large before it blooms. Elizabeth, I will send you another Desiree with the others.

Hamilton, OH

Ken
it worth a try, here, I have full sun & shade, my neighbor has a big red maple tree, so whatever I put there gets shade all afternoon, but in the back yard they get full sun all day
Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Charlene
there's nothing wrong with it if you can get them to act right
Elizabeth

I hope mine want to do right. maybe they will with this Recipe I'm using. Are we to use it everyday?
Charleen

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Big Al from Michigan grows most of his Brugs in full sun and usually gets blooms before we do. His Brugs get long hours of sunlight but without Texas heat. The Brugs shut down and do grow as fast when the temps get into the 90s. That happens here in May very often.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

I use it every day. In the Summer I do not spray that much because our yard in nothing but compost and very rich. I mainly start spraying when I take cuttings and everything is in pots in the hoop-house.

Hamilton, OH

Al is a very nice man, he sure does put up with a lot more snow than I do, I was planning on growing all mine in full sun next spring except the seedlings

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

So, if I spray everyday It won't hurt my cuttings?
Won't the peat or soil get wet? I don't want them to rot.
I have to watch what I am doingwith these picky things.
Charleen

Hamilton, OH

you use it in the winter? if so I need to make a batch of it up, I do spray mine with epsom salts in the Spring/Summer

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

He came down here year before last to our Texas Roundup and someone took a picture of his legs,. He's in shorts and barefoot. I have the picture by my computer desk. He looks like Fred Flinstone legs. When he does ware shoes they are wooden.

Hamilton, OH

I left a Brug in the ground just to see how long it would make it, it still looks good & we have had some cold frost allready, but it's still going strong, but it won't last, but 6 months is along time for our zone

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Yes, I made mine up today. i hope I did it right. I hope it likes beer, I used that whole bottle of beer. I am not a beer lover. Tastes bitter to me.
Charleen

Hamilton, OH

That's too too funny

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I know, I can see Fred Flintsone with skinny legs.

Hamilton, OH

Charlene
I have heard you get good results with it, can't hurt

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

I prefer a dry white wine myself, but the brugs like beer. It soil needs to be damp but not soggy. I start spraying as soon as I take cuttings.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I'm trying. I'll let you know.
Charleen

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Take us a pic. Have you ever had any in Galvanized bucket? I have some. they still feel firm>
Had some in water and they got mushy.
Charleen

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

You lost me, galvanized buckets,

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

If you root in water add H2O2 and keep the water fresh. cuttings can not be too green.

Hamilton, OH

I use glass containers with peatmoss, I don't like the smell of the water when they get mushy, I learned back in 2007
with a bunch of clippings in water, I went to change the water it smelled awful, I started using peatmoss from then on
Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Some people root in water using a bubler from a fish tank. I just have never rooted in anything but soil, it works for me.

Hamilton, OH

Ken
do you have to heat your hoop house?
Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Someone last year or so was using Orchid moss and watered with rain water and h2o2.

Hamilton, OH

I think you can also use pearlite, for rooting, although I have never used it
Elizabeth

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh yes. It gets into the teens several times ever Winter. We just try to keep it around 40 F.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Next year I am getting a timer for the hoop-house that cut on the misters for 5 seconds every 10 minutes, not for Brugs but for Banana Shrubs, Magnolias, Japanese Maples and such.

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Time for bath and bed, lots to do tomorrow. Moms birthday on Monday so we are heading to Fort Worth for the party. Catch you later.

Hamilton, OH

I am not going to heat my GH, I will bring those plants in when the weather starts to get really cold we have city utitilies
so the city gets enough money, but I do use it to extend the seasons
Elizabeth
