I want my climbers to climb something....

Any ideas? I am not sure what to build a tallish totem from. I want to give my monstera's and philo's something to climb so I can get the leaves to morph :)....

Forgive my newbie ignorance.... "Leaves to Morph" .. What does that mean?

The leaves change. They get bigger and a different look to them when they climb compared to hanging over the edge or traveling along the soil.

That is quite interesting. I planted a Monstera near an oak tree a while back.. Maybe it will climb... Thanks for helping me understand.

I like to look around at this site. This guy did something amazing in his back yard....
If you get a little time, you can see monstera's and philo's growing very happily :).

Thank you for posting the link to the Exotic Rainforest site, I hadn't seen it in a long time. I originally came across the site a few years ago when I was googling for some plant. It's really amazing to think someone can grow exotic tropical plants in an Atrium in Arkansas and have it be so authentic ... I can only imagine how much work went into creating that jungle, it is really beautiful!

3j'smom: I remember someone a long time ago posting about making their own trellises for climbing philodendrons and other plants. They used chicken wire, formed it into a rectangular tube like shape and wired it closed, then stuffed it with spaghnum moss. I thought about trying to make one but still haven't gotten around to it. Years ago you could find coco fiber totem poles at nurseries and garden centers but I haven't seen them for sale in years.

I had an old 18" totem maybe peat filled, and it never was right, too hard to moisten, etc... I wanted to use sphagnum, so the chicken wire sounds good, plus it supports itself, so no rebar. I may even have some around here :)... Thank you so much for sharing that idea!!

About exoticrainforest, I think it is beautiful. He wants to build a bigger one someday, lol. It's easy to forget how big the plants can get :)

Thank you 3jsmom,

I learn so much here from all the good people who also love to garden. I really enjoyed that sight and will look more into in tomorrow.
