I hadn't read the part about her husband, I was so upset about her closing her business. Lisa please as a daughter who at 3y0 came downstairs in the middle of the night to find her mother cold on the floor with a skillet on the floor next to her, please, please, get out now. Pack up your pets and go! Noone and nothing is worth staying with an abusive husband. No vows said in church, no accusing looks from family, not even financial security. If he hits you once he'll do it again and won't stop until you leave or something worse happens. No matter what he tells you, its not your fault and no matter what's happened he doesn't have the right to raise one hand against you.

Getting off my soapbox, but still praying for you

That has happened since his only goal everyday (since he is so happy here) is to drink as much beer as possible and when he has to listen to dogs bark all day he gets violent and abusive. He used to wear radio earphones all day but cannot find any due to the ipods and such taking over the market. The sherriff's dept has made it clear we do not have any right to peace and quiet in spite of the law.
I have pretty much quit working outside in favor of sitting in front of the computer and having the TV on. This is causing excruciating pain in my back, even worse than digging bulbs. Planting back requires good weather (too noisy) and causes excruciating pain in my knee. So much has been trampled in the last 2 years I can not see the benefit of suffering so much when the lilies may very well not survive. It isn't even possible to enjoy looking at the blooms anymore.
Lilies are a small part of what we grow here, due to lack of sales for the more rare and difficult bulbs and plants I don't bother much with them anymore. We spent the deep freeze cutting and burning a few of the Xmass trees, they are not getting any smaller and we were able to use the tractor to move them to a place they could be burned, we still have hundreds of root wads to rip out and move. WE SHOULD HAVE PLANTED PAWPAW INSTEAD! The bulk of the acreage is going to timber now since we obviously are not going to waste much more time and money on bulbs that do not sell, there are no wholesale buyers locally. "Local" sales of natives are 70 miles away. We thought we could use those timber areas to grow natives but after losing the orchid colonies to dogs last spring that is not an option.
The lilies are priced higher than the cheap little imports flooding the market these days, but the Daffodils and other bulbs are competitively priced and we dump hundreds of pounds of those every year having learned the hard way that replanting is a big mistake, some are very difficult to impossible to spray out. Spring sales of bulbs like Calla have been so dismal I didn't plan to dig them again anyway, I think most are dead from the freeze, we cannot afford to mulch anymore. The state has been busy outlawing logging too. If you are wondering how they do it it is by legalized extortion (taxes, permits), taking away your property rights (like living on your own property) and regulations, regulations, regulations, regulations....... Which is why imported bulbs are so cheap, produced in counties where labor is cheap and there are no regulations.
Lilies outsell the other stuff by a huge amount, but require much more care, mostly by hand and foot since it is usually too wet or the lilies are too tall to use the tractor.
Lily field inventory was not done this summer nor was the relabeling caught up due to the constant yapping and barking, which starts before dawn and lasts all day since there are so many now. This makes finding them for harvest a bit difficult since my other half planted back where ever they would fit and there were multiple beds of some that I have been trying to eliminate. There always seems to be some that escape and I have to get them the next year. unless something else gets them first. I have changed to permanent beds with Asiatics interspersed between the other NON creeping types. A small area that is not so attractive to moles as the best sandy loam areas are. It could also be double fenced there if I could afford the materials and the time to do it. Not a possibility since our main irrigation line froze and broke and finding used pipe is not going to be easy since most was sold or stolen when metal prices were so high.

PS
I can't go, for one thing after years of not making a living there is no money and no place to go. I did go once, it was still Oregon and still Linn Co and I was driven back by dogs. My poor oold kitten was terrified and miserable and I could not get any sleep. Another tragic story...........

I wish you the best, Lisa, and hope you can find peace and quiet somewhere.

Buggy,
I've been in it too. If you want to move away-which is what I finally did-from Calif. home to Ohio (after 30+ years), I've got any empty bedroom!. I'm rich in friends here, who never knew my ex. I own 3 empty lots you could grow anything you'd like on, and your kitty would fit in fine. :) Living in a community of 400 really helps you remember that people are good, and can support and love their neighbors. As my son said, after we moved here from Calif. (he was 15): "In Calif. people don't talk to you if they don't like you, but here they still do!" He's seen points of view heatedly discussed, and no lingereing vedndettas........We may not all like each other, but we support each other. It's not paradise, but it's not abuse. Sometimes you just need a break to get perspective.

None of you have heard of me, but I've been purchasing Buggy's bulbs for over a year. I agree w/ all the positives everyone has written. I've just placed a large order and am hoping the bulbs don't freeze on the way-know this is dicey, but just really want some of those lilies before they disappear.............

Buggy's been checking the weather to try to find a window to ship when the temps are highest-how many sellers do THAT?!

I also purchased in Nov. to rebut the negative. If you don't like the politics of the web-site, don't order, but it is a pretty small person, with a pretty big ego, who takes that kind of judgemental attitude and posts it. It must be hard on a day to day basis to be that superior and important--must be frustrating to be around real people who may not agree with you! That post reminded me of a similar one on Annie's Annuals-another negative-where the potential buyer wouldn't use the catalog or web-site becaue the descriptions were 'too cute' and enthusiastic. C'mon people, get a life!

Anyway, wanted to add my 2 cents, and say Buggy you've got friends all over!!

Lisa,

You have many people on here that care about you. I can tell from reading posts that buying from you is a whole experience. You are cared for as a person, not just as a company to do business with. It's up to you, of course, whether to stay or go, but please take care of yourself. No one should be abusing you. Especially the man that is supposed to take care of you. There are shelters all over. If you want to get out, go to one.

Lisa, please let me know if there is anything I can do.

Lisa, I wish I had magic words to make all the bad go away. I admire the way you run your business, and will support you w/ all my warm garden environment will allow.

As to the dogs, I wish you had some like mine, they are so sweet and don't disturb anything. Can't imagine the upheaval they cause in your life. As to your husband, big sigh, I can't begin to tell you how bad I feel for you and I pray your decision to throw him to the curb will come soon.

Wishing the best for you.
