And here's another flower we found in the same farming are, south of Johannesburg, Zwartkopjes, by the Klip river. Again, in our ignorance [my friend Tony and I], we don't know its name. Big leaves with big thorns. Could you kindly identify it. Thank you.
Is it an aloe?
Jjulio, your picture looks more like a member of the Erythrina genus than aloe, but I could be very wrong about that.
Please post your picture on the Plant ID forum as you stand a better chance of a positive ID.
Beautiful, whatever it is! I so love these pics of plants so exotic to me from the other side of the globe.
Gemini sage. He did get an ID on Plant ID forum. It is an Erythrina, but I don't remember the species
Thank you, I must look them up!
Erythrina zeyheri...
I was given some seeds of this one that I have yet to try and germinate. This is a good reminder to go home and start now.
It looks herbaceous rather than woody like most members of the Genus, am I right on that? Does it grow from a bulb perhaps?
Here is a bit more info. http://gardening.mweb.co.za/0151.htm
Thank you! Known as "Ploughbreaker"-Woah!
A meter long tap root would do that I am afraid.....grin
