i took the water out of this pond tub in the corner, put some rocks, sand and soil in it and the new anthuriums and other things..all the vines are behind it growing upwards.. u can see the chalice vine clearly loves it being back home where it spent last winter.

RJ, your garden is beautiful.. someday I hope to have some of those dancing orchids and the clerodendrums like that. My bamboo outside also has grown from a small twig to a full tall bushy thing... good thing cuz it is hiding the unsightly next door yard with their tires and used appliances still out there.. Bleah.. I now have full use of the unused room downstairs where my son was living... it is full of plants, seed trays and cutting trays.. our electric bill only went up 20.00 yay!
this is the stictocardia vine that has reached its way to the little tree from Tropicman ,that is now tall..I have a new leaf on the banana!

I'll save some for you, I think I'm going to have to split it this spring.

Red Oak, TX

Rj, what a treat!!! I am glad that you took the camera out with you on your morning inspection.
My Solandra Maxima has quite a few buds. The Grandiflora is a new plant for me to research.
While Patty is stealing your Rangoon Creeper,I will head over to Mike's for the Antherium. I wonder how old it is, mine has a long way to go before it gets to that size.

Vossner, the camera is a very important gardening tool. lol
Sorry that you broke your's.

Joeswife, you sure had a busy day, your basement garden is show ready. You are putting me to shame, everything is just thrown in the GH. I did not have time to show my helper where to put my special plants. I am still digging plants out.
I hope that you feel better soon.

This is my King Antherium, all thorn and ratty. I hope the Plant Police don't see it.

Debra, what are the sheets on the walls for? Everything looks so neat.

My darling stepson is visiting and it means the world to me that he thought the garden was lush (never like RJs but lush, nonetheless, lol). He's gone to Vegas and will be back Sun, when some brugs will be in full bloom. I can't wait for him to take a whiff. Also, butterflies were dancing all over the place and he noticed. They really are quite numerous this year. I was looking into registering my yard as a butterfly habitat but the certificate and the sign are $40-50 total. I got a cheapskate attack. I know it and the butterflies know it, I guess that's all that matters, lol.

what is the latest on Patty's DH?

Red Oak, TX

vossner, there is an update in the Prayer requests forum from Patty today.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

so encouraging!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi Vossner, the sheets are plastic table liners, they hide the rust and water stains down there.. we still have a 30k fix to do on the foundation and basement, and that won't happen until college girl is out of college. it is okay with me, no oe goes down there now, except me and Duke.. and occasionally my DH Joe, to iron.. went to the dr today, she told me I have a bad bronchitus flare up, and I figured so, just needed to hear I didn't have that dang dreaded flu that is rampant here. Oh dear I am rambling.. sheets are to hide things with.. plastic I need to tack back up over the heater vents so my plants won't fry.
Butterfly habitat! good! I would help if u decide to do it...there are never enough butterflys.. wish I had a few downstairs.. my lime tree is covered with buds for the very first time. I bet your stepson falls in love with those brugs. Vegas is a hot dry place.
this was just a stick a month ago.. it needed to go to sleep to renew its growth! ( citronella plant)

bronchitis, agh. Better than the dreaded flu, so you must take care of yourself.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

vossner, i notice u r in Texas as well as a few others.. is the temp there below freezing very often?
this morning glory is still giving me a bloom a day, the tapioca plant lost its' leaves to a stick, but has decided it likes its new location.. funny how plants are.. some are so picky about their locales..

Gosh you all, evertime I visit this forum I put more and more on my want list;-) Love viewing everyone's picture's here.

Rita, that is a very nice Philodendron "ring of fire" plant but that Anthurium Cupulispathum is stunning and I would settle for 3ft. leave's as well. The Araceae family of plant's is my favorite of all plant's.

R.J., very nice and healthy looking birds nest that your friend Mike has. I will have to check out your latest blog. It sound's interesting.

joeswife, If I were you I would live in that basement all winter long and you sure know how to organize very well. What is that vine you posted a picture of at 5:33? You called it a akatsunomai but I am not having any luck searching for that plant by that name. Help;-)

I picked up several new plant's while in Florida last week. Here is another new Anthurium for me as well. Anthurium crystallinum 'Mehani'. It's suppose to be more compact than A. Crystallinum. I really like my Clarinervium so I could not say no to this cultivar when I seen it

Anthurium "green heart" still in bloom since July. Cant's beat these for the long lasting bloom's.

I never even knew the name Anthurium until I came to this thread... this one here of ritas: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7265166 whatever it is.. i have to get me one LOL
Rachel those plants are stunning.. I can see why some people love them so much..
the morning glory I mentioned is Akatsu no Mai, sorry i ran it all together.. it is a japanese morning glory and the varigated leaves are huge and beautiful, the blooms about 6 inches wide. you will love it.

i was daydreaming on ebay today and found a tropical hawaian anthurium that has glossy dark almost black leaves with a very glossy dark dark red bloom that looks like the ones at the botanical gardens here in town.. 9.99 for the baby plant in a 2 inch pot and I didn't even look at the shipping.. there has to be a place closer to get those things!
lookit the new leaf on this one to the left.. sorry about the weight bench, havn't gotten the okay to get rid of it yet.. so I am using it. LOL..

debra, we get some evenings below 32, but it will be a week or less, then it goes to 32 or above for 3-4 weeks and then another dip here and there. This goes on from Dec to Feb. that's it.

I will look very forward to that morning glory Debra! It is a beauty. I am not familiar with the Japense M.G.'s but I am excited about the seed's from your plant. Thank you so much for those.

Perhap's the plant that you were looking at on ebay was Anthurium andraeanum 'Red Beauty'? I honestly try and stay away from ebay but I have to admit.......I have to go there on occasion but when I do I spend money;-)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I didn't realize how many types of Anthuriums there are, and I am still dazzled by the different types of accolasias and cocolaisias... and I have always loved caldiums, are they part of that anthurium or accolasia family?
Someone sent me two sago palm tree seeds. I am going to plant them. Walmart has nice sized sago palms for 5 bucks. DH just shakes his head when I meniton buying new plants.
here is two king palm babies I planted from seeds in August.

Thumbnail by joeswife

Debra, Anthurium's, Colocasia's, Alocasia's, and Caladium's are all part of the Araceae family.

Nice little seedling palm's you have there.

I keep reading all these comments about gardens in basements. I always thought mushrooms were the only things grown in them. Some people must have basements a bit different to my impression of what a basement is like.

tropicb, I totally agree w/ u, lol

Vossner doesn't live too far from me.

RachelLF, The Green Heart Anthurium is new to me. I love it.
I always buy the red ones for Christmas along with Amyrillis, instead of the tradinational Poinsettias, and replant them in the garden.
This is Anthuium Crystal Hope, two years old with only two leaves.

Joeswife, you are so good at starting plants from seeds. I wish that I had sent you all those Ti Giant seeds that I wanted to sprout, not one came up. I hope that the one plant that I have, do not die this winter.

I am retired and do not have to spend much money on clothes etc., so I spend it on e-bay plants. My Dh reminds me that I did not win the item if have to pay for it. lol

vossner, It is nice that your son appreciates your garden. My family could care less, that is why I am on DG.
I have a slab foundation, but I would love to have a basement, especially during tornado season, they scare me.

Rj, Congratulaions!!! I bet that bloom made your day.
That is a two-fer vine, after that beautiful yellow flower, comes the seed pods that look like a single petaled rose carved out of wood.

Eclecticno, The plant is Sanchezia Speciosa. Mine came from a DG (candela) in Florida. They have a little orange bloom, but mine has never bloomed.
I first saw the Sunshine tree at Rj's garden, and fell in love with them.
Your new flower bed is a nice size, What are you planning for a border?
